Engaging and Fun
I just started this podcast and I find it to be fun and engaging. I could not help myself but to watch more episodes and hope they upload more frequently. Keep up the good work!

Absolutely marvelous to have you guys back! And I am so so relieved that you I’m going to continue it. It’ll probably be more regular when you have to schedule it between Texas and the East Coast.! Thanks guys, Louise and San Diego

Gen*cide Apologists
Steve Vladeck and Bobby Chesney are genocide apologists.
unimpressed with it
Love— wish they did more
I really appreciate how thorough and thoughtful their discussions are, I just wish they did more episodes. Maybe more like 2 a month rather than about 1.

Really enjoy but…
I really enjoy the deep dives these guys take on the National Security law issues and their companionable “back and forth” and off topic chats BUT the constant verbal tics “like” “you know” drive me nuts. For law professors I find it surprising they still talk like that. Today they gave some nice advice to first year law students: I am an attorney and my advice to the students would be to purge your speech of those crutch words—- in my opinion it makes you a less effective communicator.

Painful
I’ve tried to listen to these two, and even subscribed for a while, because I’m interested in the subject matter. But their off topic ramblings make it too painful. Would not recommend.

Refreshing
A podcast with two friends who have ideological differences but find common ground and work to articulate their disagreements for the benefit of the listener. That shouldn’t be as refreshing as it is, but, well, it is. Don’t get me wrong. Bobby and Steve will make you laugh. They’re a pair of delightful dork dads with fun hobbies and quirks. But you’ll also leave each episode feeling like there’s a better way. Our society needs more of this.

A “Must” for the National Security Set
Chesney and Vladeck not only recap but also explain recent developments at the intersection of US law and national security. Although bringing basic familiarity with legal concepts is helpful, the law school dean/prof and prof (respectively) regularly pause to explain arcana or nuances to the non-lawyer listener. Plus the “Frivolity” segments at the end are enjoyable and often thought-provoking critiques of film, sports, and television.

Accessible to non lawyers
These scholars explain the laws at the center of international controversies in a lively and comprehensive way. (And you can always rewind when Prof Vladeck throws it too fast. You will be rewarded.) —a barber.

Out-bloody-standing!!!!!
Informative, evenhanded, entertaining, riveting and timely, though lamentably Yankeephobic (gods forgive our Steve).

Political Hack
Like any tv lawyer that routinely appears on national media, Vladek masquerades his political preferences as legal analysis. Baselessly smearing the court and other legal analyst who don’t arrive at the results that suit his political preferences. If you are on the left side of the aisle and want a nuanced and fair legal podcast I point you in the direction of “Amarica’s Constitution”.

Great podcast
Always good, nuanced discussion, they do a fantastic job of explaining legal issues in terms non lawyers can understand

One of my favorite podcasts*
*heads up there was some weird audio on the most recent episode making both of your voices sound different! The substance (and frivolity) were fantastic as usual.

Not a lawyer but you two do a great job breaking down complex issues. Great listen!

Thanks for explaining Stuff
I’m not a lawyer. I don’t work in government or have much connection to National Security Stuff. But I’m interested in knowing What’s Going On with my country and the world. This podcast helps me make sense out of the nonsense ~! Thanks for doing what y’all are doing

Not afraid to get into the jurisprudential weeds
While this show does a good job of breaking things down for non lawyers such as myself, I also appreciate the fact that I need to look things up from time to time. The show trusts my willingness and ability to do so rather than shying away from getting too technical. I have learned a ton in the couple of years I have been listening. It’s actually relaxing to hear substantive discussions about law and policy rather than the sort of horse race analysis that daily news broadcasts provide which manage to be both boring and stressful. I do miss the DEEP DIIIVVVEEESSS. If I could give it an extra star I would for Bobby Chesney’s passing mention of a podcast called Strong Songs during the Frivolity section of an episode this summer. That was a huge gift to me. I’ve been looking for something like that forever. Thanks.

Five Stars for the Legal Analysis
I absolutely love the legal discussion and analysis. Could do without a lot of the chatter. But that's just me. :)

The best legal podcast right now, period
Essential. Not afraid to get really technical, excellent balance of law and politics, targeted mostly at legal professionals and students but still somewhat accessible to the general public, covers important issues that aren’t covered extensively elsewhere, very entertaining. A wonderful break from more “pop” Supreme Court analysis on Strict Scrutiny, etc. I’m selfishly hoping Steve doesn’t get appointed to the Fifth Circuit so I can keep listening to this!

Such a relief
So it’s weird ,I know , to look forwarded to a pod cast for relief from our daily stress, especially one called the National Security Law, but this is it.

Love these guys
And I learn a lot . Non Texan, non lawyer and old enough to remember Truman vs Dewey. Please keep going until they come for you. 😂🤣

Episode 180
first time to listen to this podcast and after ten minutes of listening to them yak, all I can say is these two smart guys are wrong about the Astros! :)
Yet another concerned parent
Some sanity in an insane world.
I have listened for several years. I truly appreciate the well reasoned comments and discussion of what ever topic is at hand. I look to this podcast for a deeper understanding of events as they unfold. Not a lawyer but the discussion both are enlightening and insightful. Sure would like to take the security law class. I want to thank you both and the school for providing this gift. There are to many episodes that were amazing to pick just one.

Just the red meat please
I don’t wanna hear a nerd’s take on sports or entertainment. Twats like Andrew Friedman are ruining a sport that I used to enjoy. And comic book nerds have ruined the film industry. So you win, don’t rub it in please. We come for the law, can you please stick to that.

Just recommended
I just recommend this podcast to my former AP government high school students. I like the nuances, I like how reference to the Constitution is an integral part, I like the enthusiasm for knowledge and understanding, I like that the 2 at times disagree but still clearly respect each other, and I like that it is usually easy to follow as long as you don’t worry about the acronyms!

Great listen!
I really enjoy listening to each professor’s analysis. Only feedback I’d give is that during some segments Mr. Vladeck interrupts Mr. Chesney too much.

Love this show that isn’t wearing a mask but washed its hands!
Please do more deep dives! If you have time with teaching & your families etc. This is one of my favorite podcasts. It’s clear enough for someone with no background in the law, such as myself, to learn a thing or two. I enjoy the hosts and their banter. I especially appreciate that they can agree and disagree respectfully. My mom was always right when she said the court would throw something out as unconstitutional. Maybe she didn’t always know, but if she said it, it was true. It’s like she had glasses to show her the future. She didn’t have a law degree, but she taught US history for many years. When she passed away unexpectedly in 2014, one thing I lost was her unerring opinion on this kind of stuff. I finally read the constitution for myself, and was pleasantly surprised about its plain language. It’s almost like our founders wanted us to know what our rights and their responsibilities are! (That was a joke, of course they did!) My mom was a moderate republican, and the only mercy in her dying before she turned 60 was that she didn’t have to see what has happened to her party. Never before these last several years did I see that democracy is fragile. The role of the courts is critically important when the executive is off his rocker, especially when too many in Congress are spineless and content with hypocrisy. This show is one way for me to gain a greater understanding. I love it! Btw, thank you for washing your hands y’all! I wash my hands 6 times every hour when I’m awake, never when I’m asleep though 🤭🤪💦water & soap people! They can save lives if WE use them every day

Great delivery and analysis
I appreciate that Prof. Chesney and Prof. Vladeck stick to the law and don’t get too bogged down in policy. Also, no matter how mentally fatigued I may be, the National Security Law Podcast not only engages me but also gives me a second wind!

Educational but Not Dry
This podcast discusses substantial points of law, but the hosts break the topics down simply enough for anyone to understand most of it (not when they get really technical but that’s fine). One can tell they’re professors, and used to teaching these complex topics. Frivolities at the end are also always fun.

Soothing and informative
This podcast is super technical, but very interesting and incredibly informative. When I listen during the day, I learn so much. Professors Chesney and Vladeck take facts and law seriously, and they debate/disagree in substantive and collegial ways. When I listen at night, Bobby’s soothing voice and Steve’s lengthy sentences lull me to sleep. I have a great deal of nighttime anxiety/insomnia and this podcast has been a godsend. I enjoy the content, but honestly, I would listen to these guys talk about anything.

Fun podcast
As a non-lawyer, this podcast is a great tool for understanding the law being discussed. If you didn't know the hosts were professors, you think they should be since they breakdown the topics until even non-lqwyers can understand what's being discussed.

Time codes!
Add time codes to all your segment. It’s brutal to find the content I want if it’s halfway through an episode.

I teach English and History in Northern California, so this podcast doesn’t fit easily into my professional space, except that it totally does. Bobby Chesney and Steve Vladeck bring in context and analysis for complex national security events and Legal issues and delve into the minutia of language involved in law and policy. Even from there different political views, they demonstrate civility and respect while examining what classicists would have called the Trivium, grammar, logic, and rhetoric, related to all things national security. Have listened for a couple years and will keep on listening.

Bad Call!!
Steve, Last night’s call that Trea Turner interfered with the throw to first base was bad, but it does not let Don Denkinger off the hook. The call on Turner turned out to be inconsequential. Denkinger’s call cost the Cards the game, and ultimately, the Series. Get some perspective, will ya’. Bobby never would’ve made a mistake like that. Otherwise, good show. Again. Thanks to both of you.

Production matters!
Great podcast with interesting, thoughtful content. Would be superb if mic balance was more considered. One speaker yells into the mic; the other speaks softly. Hard to find right volume setting to hear latter without former exploding your eardrum.

quite good
Listen to this podcast to stay abreast of recent legislation and judicial rulings about national security law.

The “Car Talk” of National Security Law
I’m not an NSL person, and often don’t fully understand what they’re talking about, but I find myself getting smarter the more I listen to them.

Doesn’t get better
The hosts are actual straight shooters (and one of them was my favorite professor in law school). This podcast is smart, but also funny. A great way to stay up to date on important national security issues.

Insightful Legal Podcast
I started listening after First Mondays went on hiatus. I initially didn’t know if this would be a good replacement as I’ve never had a strong interest in national security law. I was way wrong. This has quickly become one of my favorite podcasts. I learn a ton every podcast. The NSL podcast will remain one of my top podcasts regardless of any Supreme Court podcasts that may come along in the future.

Best Podcast
I’ve been listening to the National Security podcast since it started and I look forward to listening to it each week! I’m in my early 20s and live in DC, and initially was worried it would be a lot to digest. However, Bobby Chesney and Steve Vladeck do an amazing job of not only breaking down the current issues in NatSec Law but also keep it incredibly funny and interesting. I recommend it to all my friends! (Also appreciated this week’s high school musical reference!)

Very Good Episode
This is one of the best episodes. Really strong discussion on citizenship, among other topics this week. Steve did interrupt less than normal, which helps. I also really like the flag which allows me to skip the stuff at the end. Other than one of their "Deep Dives", this episode is at/near the top. In that vein, I would ask Bobby and Steve to consider a regularly scheduled "Deep Dive", monthly or quarterly or whatever, because the more structured model of that type of episode results in a better flow, less interruption and a stronger overall narrative and logical construct. Keep it up.

Great podcast, one host little difficult to understand
Fantastic discussion. Both hosts are knowledgeable. I find one host a tiny bit hard to understand sometimes (he tends to speak incomprehensibly quickly and interrupt the other host).

Legal implications discussed deeply and understandably to a non-lawyer
I love the National Security Law podcast! As a non-lawyer, I appreciate that Bobby and Steve define terms and provide background — and yet still get into meaningful analysis and implications of national security law happenings. I also love their banter, their respectful disagreements, and of course the sometimes ridiculous frivolity. Highly recommend!

Essential NatSec, Interrupted
So good! A tremendous public service. Two small suggestions: -Please, please, let Prof. Chesney finish his sentences and articulate the occasional paragraph without being interrupted. It’s really starting to harsh my mellow; seemed especially notable during the final FISA deep dive episode. -Consider substituting “I think” for “I have been long on record as saying” or “as I wrote in X in X year,” to avoid sounding like your own press flack. All snark aside, thank you for this fantastic podcast.

Great for non-lawyers as well as lawyers
The co-hosts, law professors at University of Texas School of Law, make their subject accessible and interesting for non-lawyers like me as well as legal practitioners and students of the law. This is an important subject, and the co-hosts are great explainers.
