What a gift!
This is podcast has been such a gift to our family. We are foster and adoptive parents and often feel misunderstood by “traditional” families around us. It has been so encouraging and life giving to find this podcast and hear from parents who have been there and who are deeply striving to build deep relationships with their children. This podcast offers so many practical tips. Parenting the “Empowered Parenting” way is transforming our home for the better!!

Highly Recommend!
I can’t recommend this podcast highly enough! We are in the beginning stages of our adoption journey and I had been reading everything I could get my hands on to try to educate myself about adoption and was just getting more and more discouraged. Everything I read just seemed to tell me how difficult (if not impossible) it was going to be to be an adoptive parent, and how we were going to throw our whole family into turmoil. I already knew it wasn’t going to be easy, but I started to think maybe we shouldn’t even move forward with adoption if it was just going to ruin our family and our adopted children would never heal from the trauma in their past. I desperately needed some good news! And that’s when I stumbled onto the Empowered Parent podcast. There are tears in my eyes as I write this because listening to Ryan and Kayla infused so much hope into my heart that I started believing that we could do this after all! Their advice is so reassuring and practical it’s like a drink of cold water in the middle of the desert of bleak news surrounding adoption. To any prospective adoptive parent out there: this may be the best educational tool at your disposal to both educate and prepare you for the challenges of adoption, while at the same time giving you hope that it CAN be done! A huge thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Great resource!!
I’ve been listening to this podcast ever since we heard Ryan speak at the Refresh Conference in Seattle. We have been a Continuing to use as a a resource as we continue the foster adoption journey. I have shared many of these tips and the actual podcasts to my friends with bio kiddos and other foster families. My go to is when Ryan tells the story of his daughter running through house, falls and cries... “what happened? I’m sorry that happened, how can I help?” Instead of “oh you’re ok” I use this over and over and works every time!!! Thank y’all and keep up the great work!!

Fun and useful
This is a truly wonderful podcast. The people on it are fun to listen to and encouraging while at the same time, they are informative and helpful. Even as a psychologist, I learn from them and find their discussions to be helpful reminders of things I know but have lost in the back of my head. I highly recommend this podcast for anyone involved with foster and adoption or anyone working with people with trauma.

Encouraging and Inspiring
This podcast is so relatable for anyone parenting, and especially for those parenting a child from a hard place. Ryan and Kayla are open, honest, and vulnerable and there are many “me too” moments while listening. Lots of practical tips and encouraging words to help parents continue parenting in a connected, trauma informed way.

Great show!
Are a foster parent and mentor to a foster teen this show is a great resource and is opening my eyes to things I had never even considered. As I listen to the episode I am jotting down notes to share with others and to remind myself of ways to help kids from hard places process their feelings. Thank you for all of this valuable information!

Must listen!
As a caseworker and supervisor in foster care within the public child welfare system I cannot recommend this podcast enough. I encourage my staff and our families to listen. Hearing the episode from Jayne Schooler (my idol 😀) last week hit home. Thank you to the Norths and this community for being there for each other and your listeners. Keep the information coming. Thank YOU for having the Candid, Courageous Conversations ❤️

Practical and refreshing
This podcast is digestible with the short but powerful conversations they have around strategies and insight for the adoptive parent. I love how practical it is, so I can carry over the ideas they share and how refreshing it is to listen to parents who know what my world looks like.

Life Changing
I attended the Empowered to Connect conference, which was life changing for me. As an adoptive parent, this is what I really, really need to bring my parenting life under control. I see an end to the chaos that has been running my life for the past 6 years. The podcast is the perfect accompaniment to it. When I listened to the post-conference episode, the presenters were right on target with exactly what was going on for me and I felt so understood and validated that I just wanted to hug them all. The next episode on lowering expectations is also right on. I am going back and downloading past episodes to dole out to myself when I feel overwhelmed. THANK YOU all for doing this work. I really love your message as well as your compassionate, mellifluous voices. My only suggestion is to maybe refer folks more to the websites with resources on them.

Best parenting advice!!
My husband and I are about to become foster parents, and this podcast has been the absolute best resource in preparing me mentally and practically for this new step! I've even caught myself implementing techniques like compromising with my niece ("Ok, I can play for 15 minutes, then I need to go back to what I was doing."). Thanks so much!!

Magic Toolbox
This podcast is a Godsend for my foster family! We have seen some life-changing improvements and have better equipped ourselves to deal in a gracious way with children. I recommend this podcast to ANY parents, and have taught friends how to do the magic mustache, time in, redos, practicing outside the moment, etc. What great advice!

Top adoption podcast!
Really encouraging, adoption podcast! We’ve been in seasons where we didn’t have a adoption community and this podcast has been so helpful to make us not feel isolated and alone. When I found this podcast, I started at the beginning and listened to all the episodes.. MAN, what a wealth of knowledge! We adopted our child 7 years ago, but they addressed things that helped us understand him and how to care for him better!

Fantastic parenting podcast!
This is a wonderful, encouraging, honest podcast talking about parenting using the TBRI principles. The lessons are invaluable for parents/adults who interact with kids from a trauma past. We have had great success implementing many of these principles in our home.

The pep talk I needed!
I've studied this method of parenting for years and stumbled upon this podcast by accident. I'm SO glad I did. It's the weekly pep talk I needed to keep feeling like "I can do this!" The hosts are warm and make you feel like you've known each other for years. I absolutely love this podcast as a foster/adoptive mother.
