The Daily Article Podcast offers news discerned differently every Monday through Friday morning. Why was Ronna McDaniel hired then fired by NBC News?
Ronna McDaniel was chairwoman of the Republican National Committee for seven years until her resignation earlier this month. Last Friday, NBC News announced that they’d hired her. Four days later, following criticism from many of the network’s commentators, she was fired. In our “philodoxical” (“love of opinion”) culture where all truth is subjective, what you believe before you read the news probably determines what you think after you read it. Today in Holy Week–Maundy Thursday–illustrates the eternal significance of this fact.About Denison Forum and The Daily ArticleToday's Daily Article was written by Dr. Jim Denison and narrated by Chris Elkins. The bridge disaster in Baltimore and the Supreme Court abortion case
A container ship rammed into Baltimore’s largest bridge early yesterday morning, causing it to snap and plunge into the river below. Six people are presumed dead as of this morning. Later in the morning, the US Supreme Court heard arguments in the first major abortion case since Roe v. Wade was overturned in 2022. At stake is access to the abortion pill mifepristone. Both news stories speak to the frailty and sacredness of all human life. As Christians, what can we do to influence our culture to advocate for life?About Denison Forum and The Daily ArticleToday's Daily Article was written by Dr. Jim Denison and narrated by Chris Elkins. Could the attack in Russia happen here?
Russian President Vladimir Putin acknowledged yesterday for the first time that “radical Islamists” executed the bloody assault at Crocus City Hall in Moscow that left at least 139 dead. As Russia grieves, the world asks: Are the terrorists who staged the massacre a threat to the rest of us?About Denison Forum and The Daily ArticleToday's Daily Article was written by Dr. Jim Denison and narrated by Chris Elkins. The latest on Kate Middleton’s cancer and the ISIS attack in Moscow
Princess Kate’s video announcement that she is undergoing chemotherapy treatment for cancer shocked the world. But as Helen Lewis noted in the Atlantic, the princess was “bullied into this statement, because the alternative—a wildfire of gossip and conspiracy theories—was worse.”The other headline news over the weekend was the horrific shooting at a Moscow concert venue that left at least 137 people dead. ISIS claimed responsibility. The US warned Putin of the possibility of such an attack, but he did not trust their motives.Whether the issue is Kate Middleton’s health or jihadist terrorism, all truth is now opinion. Here’s why that’s such a major problem in our postmodern culture.About Denison Forum and The Daily ArticleToday's Daily Article was written by Dr. Jim Denison and narrated by Chris Elkins. The rise of profanity in the pulpit
There is a reported escalation of vulgarities by pastors in their sermons and writing. This despite the clear biblical command: “Let there be no filthiness nor foolish talk nor crude joking, which are out of place, but instead let there be thanksgiving” (Ephesians 5:4). As John Piper comments, “Crudeness is the sludge that accrues when the fountain of Godward thanks dries up.” What causes this “fountain” to dry up? The answer is more relevant to evangelical Christians than you might think.About Denison Forum and The Daily ArticleToday's Daily Article was written by Dr. Jim Denison and narrated by Chris Elkins. Meet the “Guardian of the Golden Gate”
Kevin Briggs is the “Guardian of the Golden Gate.” The former California highway patrol officer has prevented more than two hundred people from dying by suicide on the Golden Gate Bridge. His tactic is simple but effective. He’ll ask the person in distress about their plans for the following day, then invites the person back to the bridge if their plan doesn’t work out. In a day when the threat of nuclear weapons continues to make headlines, how can we be more like Kevin Briggs? How can we bring hope to bear on fearful situations?About Denison Forum and The Daily ArticleToday's Daily Article was written by Dr. Jim Denison and narrated by Chris Elkins. Why congress’ attempt to ban TikTok matters
Earlier this week, the House of Representatives easily passed legislation that would essentially ban TikTok from the country unless its parent company sold its American user base. And while the bill faces a rockier path through the Senate, President Biden has already said he would sign it if it gets to his desk. But what’s actually in the bill and why are some wary that it won’t stop with TikTok?About Denison Forum and The Daily ArticleToday's Daily Article was written by Dr. Ryan Denison and narrated by Chris Elkins.
