Cinematic Knowledge Goldmine!
Found this podcast last year and instantly became hooked. Such a wealth of cinematic knowledge around the art and reasoning behind why directors or actors do the things they do that make the movies we love so amazing. If you want a college course into film making, this is your best option!

A Cinematic Journey Worth Taking!
I stumbled upon The Cine-Files podcast during a late-night movie marathon, and it has become an absolute favorite. Hosts John Rocha and Steve Morris bring their passion for cinema to every episode, creating a delightful blend of insightful analysis, witty banter, and genuine camaraderie. Thoughtful Analysis: Steve and John dive deep into the heart of each film they discuss. Whether it’s dissecting character arcs, exploring thematic nuances, or unraveling hidden Easter eggs, their attention to detail is commendable. They don’t shy away from the complexities, and their thoughtful conversations make me appreciate movies on a whole new level. Authentic Friendship: Listening to them feels like eavesdropping on two old friends catching up over coffee. Their laughter is infectious, and their chemistry is palpable. It’s evident that they genuinely enjoy each other’s company, and that warmth extends to their listeners. As a result, I feel like part of their cinephile circle. In summary, The Cine-Files is more than a podcast; it’s a cinematic journey. So grab your popcorn, settle in, and let Steve and John guide you through the magic of the silver screen. 🎥🍿 Don’t forget to support them on Patreon and explore their featured films on their website. And hey, maybe someday they’ll discuss my all-time favorite movie! Keep up the fantastic work, gentlemen! 🙌🎉

The Best!
The best listen when you want a breakdown of your favorite movies!

Goodfellas! You nailed it…
Really one of your best episodes and thrilled that you did it 3 parts. Regarding The Great Train Robbery/Tommy shot tat the end , I believe Scorsese uses it exactly like it is used in the 1903 film - as an exclamation point on the entire film. And Tommy gets a little bit of an encore. It comes out of nowhere after a bit of a ‘downer” ending and it wakes you up.

Good time for listening
Make going through work much easier and make me want to rewatch the films I’ve seen before

This show is fun.
More than anything else these guys know how to have a good time talking about movies. If you need a break from all the seriousness and the news pick an episode from one of your favorite movies and nerd out for a bit. Very positive vibes from people who really love movies.

Excellent Movie analysis
I love the back and forth between John & Steve, I enjoy the different perspectives, the detail and research they put into each film is great, this is my new favorite movie podcast, can’t wait to check out all the back library.

Lots of historical details are highlighted: a HUGE recommend!
John and Steve have incredible taste and present mostly Positive breakdowns of All of the films they love. This is no simple trashing of the obvious low points of Hollywood, but rather an in depth analysis of some of the Greatist films ever. Much to enjoy!

Comprehensive
The most in depth movie review podcast ever. When you listen to the podcast, you feel like you’re watching the film. They break down the entire movie, scene by scene. Very knowledgeable and most insightful. Highly recommend this podcast. The Very Best.

Virtue signaling constantly
It’s a good show if you can get through the disgusting constant virtue signaling. And they claim to be artists and they talk about things you can’t do no a days and used to be able to get away with. I thought art didn’t have boundaries? John is the worst with this.

Excellent Long Form Movie Podcast
Steve and John both have experience in the industry (one as director and the other as actor) which allows them to add the perfect amount of relevant color to my favorite movies. More importantly there’s no facade or fakeness and the takes are genuine and almost always on point (I couldn’t have my own opinions and say “always” but it’s close). Great pod. Enjoy.

John is horrible
The way he analyzes film is awful, his jokes never land, doesn’t offer anything. Get rid of him

Marvel movies do not need more coverage
Show has lost its way. Haven’t done a Hitchcock movie in 5 years yet talk about bad marvel movies for capitalist intentions alone . Terrible betrayal of what the podcast was originally intended to support , true cinema.

Should be 5+ Stars, but...
The wimpy, relentless, pusillanimous, self-righteous woke crap is ruining this podcast. Good grief, millennials are such a freaking downers (and if you aren't a millennial, you are certainly doing a fine impression). Such great analysis with such garbage attitudes about their unrealistic perception of the real world. Newsflash guys, Last of the Mohicans was set before America was even a country. Using modern day judgments on history is beyond ignorant. Also, being a strong woman and being a feminist is not necessarily the same thing. Madeline Stowe's character was not a feminist, but a strong woman. Ugh, it is frustrating listening to beta males discuss manly movies. You're lucky you got one star. Just listen to both shows about "the great escape." That is exactly how the show should be. Very well done there.

Just so smart and funny
I’m their number one fan and any anyone who doesn’t love them is just a cockadoodie stinker! I’m right in Steve’s demographic and his story about hiding from ads for The Exorcist reminded me of the time I ran out of the house into the back yard during the burning pit scene in The Last Man on Earth. I think I was about six. So many of their reviews inspire me to watch and re watch movies like Night of the Hunter and The Wrath of Khan. Everything but that abysmal Mary Poppins. Still, it was a fun listen. Great job guys!

Hands down the best film podcast
I’m cracking up over the people in the reviews who complain about the (minimal) political commentary or conversations about “woke” ideology, COMPLETELY missing the themes of the movies that are direct reflections and projections of those very things. If your ignorance doesn’t get offended by it cleverly written in a movie but does on a podcast, that’s your own fault. Just because you disagree with a hosts political views doesn’t make them any less talented in such deep discussion of movies. Cinefiles is a stand-out show. Excellent insight and thought-provoking dialogue, with a strong attention to facts and details. Love it.

Continuing to decline
Used to be the best cinema podcast out there but it continues to decline due to the hosts ability to get offended on every episode. They’re in the movie business…how is that even possible? They're incredibly self righteous and love to virtue signal.

These Guys Got Cinematic Game!
I’ve loved 🥰 film since I was a kid. These dudes do movies justice. Like listening to Pauline Kael’s kids. ( if they’d inherited her cinema passion) My 5th or 6th listening to this pod. Superb.

Could be better
I always enjoy a good breakdown of great films but this show seems like these guys are so concerned about defending their morals that its more about them than the films. Just talk about the film. Of course we know Jordan Belfort was a duche and Calvin Candie was a bad guy. Of course we know you guys don’t condone the actions of these “characters”.

This podcast is getting worse
I used to love this podcast, but now there is so much self-righteous commentary about how bad people are in the movies and political analysis from the left, instead of just enjoying the movies. The one that turned me off was the Wolf of Wall Street. I couldn’t even listen to the third part, because there was so much repetition of the talk of cults and rich people and how bad of a guy, Jordan Balfour is. obviously, he was a criminal, we get it. It ruins the analysis by constantly talking about it. It’s a movie! Not everything has to be seen through 2023 eyes.

Great Episode on “Silverado”
Excellent episode that made me love on if my favorite movies even more.

The Cinefiles is great
I’ve been listening to John and Steve for close to five years now and their content has only improved and improved on the Cine-files. If your looking for funny, interesting, and open conversations about film and everything involved in making said films, you have to do yourself the service of listening to this show. As the show has expanded its audience, they have also expanded their ability for detail. New episodes now can range between 3 to 4 parts depending on the film as opposed to much shorter episodes at the beginning, allowing for the most creative and engaging conversations between John and Steve to flourish rather than to be rushed. All in all I think if your any kind of lover of film and film history, this show is simply where it’s at.

Great podcast!
I have been listening to this podcast since 2017, and always enjoy the discussion and insight it to some of my favorite movies as well as some films I had not seen but have been inspired to watch. What’s really refreshing about this podcast is that they have avoided the temptation to talk about nothing but superhero movies and blockbusters exclusively. There are millions of people already doing that on YouTube. Edit: it took a minute, but they finally pivoted into the world of superheroes and begging for money on YouTube. They did four (4!) episodes on Black Panther?? They haven’t even done E.T. , but they found time to drone on and on about race on most of their recent episodes. Now they will be doing Marvel movies All. The. Time. There are endless spaces online and on YouTube where there is no lack of discussions about superheroes. It’s probably a side effect of the online media landscape. The only things that get clicks are capes and lightsabers. Everybody’s gotta eat, so they are doing what they have too, I guess. Also, they took the Manson Family’s side in their discussion of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. We don’t always have agree on movies, but the way they pooped all over Tarantino on TARANTINO MONTH was enough for me to unsubscribe.

The Cine-Files Are Wonderful!
I found the Cine-Files looking for a resource for an Alfred Hitchcock term paper I was writing. After listening to their deep dive episodes on Rear Window and Vertigo, I went back and listened to their entire back catalog of podcasts. Steve and John provide a wealth of knowledge, perspective, and emotional intelligence when discussing the great films of history and the impact they have on us today. Through their professionally presented discussions, the Cine-Files have enriched movies I’ve already loved, enlightened me to movies I now cherish, and inspired me to watch movies I have yet to encounter. Exciting and passionate guests come in on perfectly paired movie discussions to add wonderful points of view to already deep conversations. If you love movies for beautiful acting, lingering symbolism, filmic craftsmanship, and the truth inherent in good stories, you owe it to yourself to check this podcast out! Thank you Steve and John!

Favorite Podcast!
I’m a 17-year-old senior in high school. I’m an absolutely enormous movie nerd and I’m currently applying to film school. When I was stuck at home during COVID, I began listening to this podcast. Not only is it an absolutely amazing podcast if you want tons of cool film knowledge, but it lets me rediscover some of my favorite movies and has helped me through some of the hardest parts of my life. I live in Michigan, and my school was receiving threats after the Oxford High School shooting. The day after, barely anyone was at school because parents were keeping their kids out. But I was, and that whole day, I just listened to the Cine-Files. John and Steve - keep it up! This podcast means so much to me and reminds me why I love movies! Thank you guys so much for this incredible show, and if you are an avid film lover, you HAVE to listen to the Cine-Files.

Informative, addictive and hilarious!
This has become my favorite podcast. I find it informative, addictive… and hilarious. I have read many books on cinema and have taken a class or three in my four score of years on Spaceship Earth, but I get more out of these discussions between two good friends (and their occasional guests) than all of these books and classes combined. They do deep dives into the movies. Really deep dives. Their coverage is almost always illuminating regardless of whether I agree with them or not. That are illuminating in regard to the film they’re covering AND illuminating in regard to the sensitivities and belief systems of these two very smart and funny gentleman. At times it feels like I am listening in on one of the individual and group therapy sessions I participated in throughout the late 60s, 70s, 80s, etc.. From my perspective, that’s a good thing. Above all these gentlemen are endlessly entertaining. Do yourself a favor and just listen to one or two of these gems. You too will be hooked. vic P.S. The only suggestion I have for improvement comes from my background as an amateur historian. I noticed that in films portraying historical characters and events you treat the films as actually being accurate and the real history of things. They are most definitely not real history – they are inevitably a condensed portrayal of a point of view on an historical personage or event. They inevitably are biased, incomplete, and even occasionally completely inaccurate. They are not to be relied upon as The Truth.

Fantastic Podcast
For me this is the quintessential podcast for learning about movies. I appreciate the eagerness of the hosts to learn as much about the movies and not just what makes them work, but the human elements and insights we can learn from how a story comes together, both on film and behind the scenes. I appreciate both the positivity and shrewdness the hosts bring while making it a completely satisfying experience for newcomers to film exploration, die hard fans of a specific movie, and, you guessed it, Cinephiles.

My favorite podcast!
I discovered your podcast while researching a movie for my film class. One podcast in and I was hooked! Both my husband and I love listening to you, in fact we save special episodes for road trips The insight and film knowledge make listening to you two as if I’m attending a Master Class I recently changed my major at my university to a double major of film!!! So your podcast is perfect! I have recommended your show to several of my film major classmates Thank you! Regarding Mary Poppins, I am if a “ certain age” and saw Mary Poppins in the theater in 1964, Crest Theater Long Before California Mary Poppins is one of my favorites. I wanted to mention however that you provided tidbits about the actors , was surprised you didn’t give Arthur Treacher the man who played the constable a mention due to all his roles with Shirley Temple. Thank you for this Mary Poppins podcast I loved it!

Excellent Podcast
I’ve been listening out of order for a couple of years now and thoroughly enjoy your episodes. Went back to episode one for a listen this morning. It was really enjoyable to experience that first episode and how the podcast as evolved over time. What is great about the podcast today was present in that first episode. With that being said, you’ve come a long way.

Gentleman, The BEST deep dive podcast by far online. Been following you all for years now and the show just keeps getting better. Thank you both for all the time and effort you both put in. Keep up the great work. All the best from a fellow Cine-file Branden Hopkins

Used to be my favorite Podcast
Something definitely changed somewhere. Having a debate on film is one thing, but condemning every single movie through modern sensibilities is wild. In the Misery episode John defends Annie as a victim, simply because she’s a woman. This is the same show that brilliantly captured Ken Burns’ civil war just a few years ago. I rarely listen anymore because they do three episode reviews of Marvel movies and blame everything on Trump. Shame.

Best movies podcast
I have been listening to Steve and John and their guests for about 3 years now. Not only do I eagerly anticipate each week’s new installment, I often go back to listen to reviews from before I was a regular listener. I find their background information about how each film was conceived and cast enlightening and technical information about cinematography, lighting, etc. fascinating; they have enhanced my enjoyment of films that I have loved for years, helped me gain appreciation for films I barely remembered, and encouraged me to discover films I had heard of but never saw. I am so grateful for what they add to my enjoyment of movies that I now make monthly support payments thru Patreon - well worth it! Keep up the good work, boys!!

Passion & Honesty
I just discovered the podcast and I am binge listening. I love the way they share the enjoyment of the films, and their in depth analysis, as well as the kindness with which they present their perspective. I would love them to add a woman now and then to the conversation to have a different way of viewing the films. The choice of films is always interesting even when I don’t always share the taste:)

The Great John and Steve
The Cine-files is a great podcast for any movie fan, it’s perfect hear them talk classic movies with so much information that I never knew. They just really need to redo their Superman the movie and give it the true Cine-Files treatment.

This podcast is great! I love hearing insights into the Films I Love, and to have an excuse to watch great films I’ve never seen before, so I can better understand the Great conversations of John and Steve.

Pretentious, boring & snobby
These two milk toast, beta males are a waste of your time. They are not the real deal. They come off as barley appreciating film, and seem to appreciate themselves and their agendas more. Happy soapboxing film posers.

Interesting
Good, interesting info on the movies and movie making. Would have giving it five stars but for the ridiculous political comments.

Best Podcast Out There For Cinephiles
I really enjoy these discussions and get a lot out of them. I’ve listened to quite a few other podcasts devoted to film and in my opinion this is the best. The hosts are insightful and interesting and fun.

So good!
Love how these guys (and special guest) will explore any movie from any genre. Everyone has heard 10,000 opinions on Godfather or the shining. So refreshing to hear about Rushmore to Shawshank, con air to fight club, and everything in between! Rock on and keep the episodes coming!

Best Movie Podcast out there
I listen to a LOT of retro-movie podcasts, this is the best one I have found, by far. Just listened to the part one of “The Godfather” and it gave me new insight into a movie I thought I knew everything about.
