This is a great podcast with great discussions and breakdowns of games and mechanics. Very good to go to after finishing a game and hearing in depth thoughts and discussion.

I kept waiting for any of the hosts to correct each other's wrong takes about SMT3 Nocturne's gameplay, but with the exception of Leah who used a walkthrough, they all missed blatant mechanics, switched to easy mode, then complained that easy mode lessened the game's impact. Nobody seemed to differ in opinion or insight, and the show's pacing felt disjointed since there was never any disagreement or rebuttal throughout the entire episode. Also it bugged me how someone kept suggesting that FromSoftware might have taken inspiration from Nocturne's method of minimalist storytelling for Dark Souls, despite that From had been using that style since King's Field from 1994.

There is nice chill vibe to this podcast that I enjoy. They have a range of opinions on the show. Only thing is sometimes I feel that they aren’t always as intentional with their critiques. For example: not sure how Dragon’s Dogma was called an amazing game and none of it’s obvious flaws were dealt with any detailed criticism. Great if you just want to listen to conversations about games. (Also they have a huge catalog of games to choose from)

I’ve always been a bit of an odd gamer. There’s not really any one type of game I enjoy or despise. I like at least one game in every genre. From Final Fantasy, Persona, Nier to Mutant League Football, Rocket League, NBA Jam to Telltale’s Walking Dead, Detroit:Become Human, and Until Dawn. I love games in general. And for someone like me this podcast is perfect! Even when I don’t agree with the episode (looking at you episode 100) I still find it to be great to listen to another point of view. I might not always agree but their counterpoints are always well presented and articulated. Great job on the podcast and keep up the great work!

Great podcast! Relaxing to listen to, great variety (both of games and perspectives) and my all-time favorite format for and execution of a video game podcast. Keep it up!

I’ll start with the positives - when you get an episode with a set of engaging hosts who are really passionate about the game they’re covering, this is one of the best podcasts ever. (Old school game episodes with Leon and Michiel are great!) But when you hit an episode with a group of less charismatic hosts (and there are many) discussing a game they’re not too fond of, you’re stuck listening to people nitpicking a game for two hours…and that’s not fun. At all. Worse still is when the discussion is derailed from the topic of the game (the literal point of the podcast) to real world events and politics. The Batman: Arkham Knight podcast had endless tangents asking if Batman is a “toxic” character, and Leon specifically rambles on about “erm, those certain types of people online with, um, Joker avatars and things”. The episode on Uncharted: The Lost Legacy featured a digression about *real life* PMCs in the *real world* simply because a *fictional character* in a *video game* has a backstory where she was *formerly employed* by a PMC. “How do we feel about playing a character like that?” I’d wager that 99% of players don’t feel *any kind of way at all*, thanks. So yes - this podcast can be great! It can be one of my favorite things ever! But it can also be excessively dry. And irritating. Like sand. Don’t make me put sand in my ears, Cane and Rinse!

I really enjoy this video game podcast. A solid group of personalities and some interesting discussions abound. I personally enjoy the lack of hyperbole and bombast - it’s a pleasant listen.

The earlier episodes were great, but as the older hosts left and newer ones were brought in the show became a shadow of its former self. I recommend listening to episodes 1-200 but after that there is really no point in continuing.

The overall structure of the podcast is exactly what I’ve been waiting for!! I downloaded a few episodes before making an honest judgement… I had a good feeling from the very start. Now, It has become my “New Radio”… I truly enjoy listening daily, whether I’m at home, driving to work, or just out and about. The cast is knowledgeable and honest, the sound quality is great, and most importantly the structure is solid. There is no nonsense and rambling. It is straight to the point and covers all angles from the games I love. All in all…. 10/10. Keep up the great work guys!!

Video games are fun. Talking about video games should be fun. Right? Then why does no one seem to be having any (fun) on this most pedantic and sleep inducing of podcasts? On paper this looks like a surefire hit: a bunch of nerds talk about your favorite games, old and new. Trouble is, most of the assembled nerds might as well be discussing colonoscopies (they're mostly dudes), such is the sheer joy they bring to the proceedings. I think the main problem here is the hosts themselves: the gentlemen have the personalities of laundry detergent: they are thorough but leave you dry, and with a funny taste in your mouth (hey, stop eating that). The discussions are humorless, soulless, directionless, and very pretentious: this is not Antique Road Show, gents, it’s a video games podcast. With a very few exceptions (one-I think CJ), most of the hosts/guests come across as unengaging, immature, one dimensional blowhards, in their very own little boys club. Just because you've played unhealthy amounts of Super Meat Boy (and I do mean unhealthy, these guys really should go outside once in a while), doesn't mean you can carry on a conversation about it for an hour, or that you should. But, if you make me laugh, if you can entertain, if your Super Meat Boy experience reflects the human condition, the futility of what it means to be flesh and bone, hey…now that’s a show I’d listen to. This is quite simply: a podcast about video games brought to you by some guys who play video games. Its biggest sin is that it thinks its somehow better than that.

This is a great podcast. A fun listen and just what I had been looking for. A video game podcast that focuses on one game or series at a time and a great conversation. Thanks!

The best thing I can say about the Cane and Rinse podcast is that listening to it gives me the same thrill I remember having in he early 2000's when I used to go to my local bookstore and comb through the Lonely Planet travel guides, dreaming of exotic escapes and sometimes turning those dreams into reality because of those texts. Just like those guidebooks the show is informative, aspirational, evenhanded, and in possession of a unique voice capable of eliciting laughter, consideration, and a good long web surfing session in preparation for my next great digital adventure. This year will be their tenth year on air, and here's hoping they have ten more.

If you are interested in a grown-up analysis of ANY aspect of video games, this podcast will give you grown-up analysis of EVERY aspect of video games. Think of a game you’ve played and enjoyed, and be prepared to love it even more as a group of insightful individuals, all of whom have completed said game, spend two hours analyzing every nut and bolt, every banjo and kazoo. A pleasure every time.

This podcast in a word, is amazing. With the chill talk about video games, the amazing video games they talk about, and best of all, It’s completely clean! As a 10 year old who’s listening to this, I appreciate the cleanliest of the podcast, but the only complaint I have is the hotline Miami episode. Now I’m scared of a nuke obliterating me and my dogs.

Love these podcasts. The only thing in my opinion that can be improved on is stop trying to not offend people. We don’t need an explanation stating why SJW’s shouldn’t verbally attack you. Other than that keep up the good work guys.

I am new to this podcast. I have heard of it in the past from some cross-pollination with Bonfireside Chat and it has been on my “to listen” pile for a long time. Boy do I regret not listening sooner! This podcast is incredibly enjoyable. The games discussion is always light yet substantial. It is very relaxing and an overall great time. There tends to be a nice variety in viewpoints about the game covered and in the end the hosts try to be as positive as they can be. The huge variety in games covered is a plus as well. I plan to be a listener for a long while now. A very strong recommendation. Wishing everyone who provides the show the best.

I’ve been a listener for years (not sure why it’s taken me so long to write a review) and Cane & Rinse has been my favorite gaming podcast (maybe favorite podcast full stop) since listening to the first episode. There are several episodes I’ve listened to multiple times, which cannot be said about other podcasts. They cover games from all angles, the hosts are interesting, knowledgeable, and funny without veering into the “whacky morning DJ” neighborhood. It’s just a great, genuine podcast made by great, genuine people. I’d rate higher than 5 starts if I could.

I’ve tried a few podcasts and settled on fewer. Cane and Rinse respects your time and the crew keep themselves to a strict format which feels professional and thorough. This podcast differentiates itself by focusing on games well past their release and spending an entire episode with each game. I haven't listened to many different podcasts, but all of the ones I've heard follow the same format of "people talking about games like anyone else talking about games." If you listen to their backlogs the discussion will no longer be relevant (except as history) and if you listen to the current episodes you risk spoilers. Cane and Rinse functions like a history of video games. These discussions won't grow old because they're discussing it in a historical context already. They WILL spoil the games though, which they warn you about. The only criticisms I would have is how often they reach further back than perhaps they should and how the massive variety of games they discuss is beyond the scope of most normal folk. If you love video games Cane and Rinse offers hours and hours of listening for every stripe of gamer, and extra for avid gamers. All presented in a clean and polite format of journalistic integrity.

Very smart, even analysis of classic games. They find something good to say about everything and are fair with the bad. Love how much listener feedback they incorporate into the show! Good work!!!

Just recently found Caine and rinse and I’ve been plowing through the back catalogue. I love the variety of opinions on each game and the rotating cast really ensures the people on a given episode really want to talk about the game. Look forward to many more episodes

I started by listening ot the classics, Mario Karts, Zeldas, Halo, the mainstream giants. Then I explored games that I haven't heard of and found it easy to follow and the episodal formula to be very clean and streamlined. The hosts are perfect, with a wide variety of information and opinions. I feel like they follow a tight line of trying to be objective but still have their personalities show through on the games they have passion for. After you listen to a few and get to know the hosts pretty well, I very highly recommend listening to the first episode of sound of play. I spewed water at the Captain Toad slection by Leon.

I stumbled across this podcast about two years ago and immediately became hooked. Each episode covers a different game; the cast, composed of 3-4 very knowledgeable and likable people, discuss seemingly everything there is to talk about re: said ‘game’. A pleasant surprise to be sure. Still the only podcast I’ve voluntarily spent money on; I cannot recommend this show enough. Pick an episode and enjoy!

I was referred to this show by a listener to my own podcast, and I've been hooked ever since. I love a gaming podcast that doesn't just rehash the news of the week, and the deep dives on Can and Rinse are immensely enjoyable and entertaining. This is a wonderful reference show for anyone interested in video games, and with a huge library of episodes in the channel, they've probably covered that game you're thinking about, or have it in the works for an upcoming show. These guys and gals do NOT mess around. They play games to completion on a punishing schedule and get together to chew them to a bloody pulp. I started by listening only to their reviews of games I grew up with, then moved to games I'd played, then realized I could learn as much if not more about life, the universe and everything by listening to stuff I'll never touch. If part of you was raised by a console, if you imagine that games are something more than art or entertainment, and if you dig a bunch of geek-aesthetes dissecting the object of their affection, then you simply must subscribe to this podcast and join their Patreon.

I can’t recommend Cane and Rinse more highly to anyone passionate about games and invested in the history of the medium. The Cane and Rinse crew - a lovely, cheerful, and insightful group - take the long view on the games they choose to cover and offer excellent commentary and criticism over the course of their two-hour discussions, always to a high standard of radio listening. This is the best games podcast around, and you owe it to yourself to tune in.

Been listening to Cane & Rinse for a couple years now, and I definitely feel like this is a great example of fun, insightful video game discussion. If there’s any negative criticism, it’s only that there isn’t more of it, allowing more depth and detail for each topic and critic. The format can seem crunched and compacted at times, with a host who needs to push past further talking points to cover in a predetermined amount of time.

This podcast bangs! These are just guys that are interesting to listen to and whose opinions you want to hear on gaming. Keep it up.

A fantastic library of thoughtful discussions about video games and their history. The panels never break into yelling or insulting, it's the easiest way to get lost in video game memories and their power to last. There's no such thing as a hundred percent un-biased review, but Cane and Rinse come across as the closest, while still bringing a great love to the medium. Worth listening to, even if you haven't played all the games they're covering.

I like Cane and Rinse for its format: people talking about game topics politely, with informed, considered opinions. Great show!

The one negative about this show that I would have to give, is that it makes me want to replay a lot of older games that I don't have time for.

Cane and Rinse is an excellent podcast! It really should be noted that it is a social justice left wing podcast! Often the analysis of themes is discussed through that lens, and, for me, that’s what makes it a wonderful podcast. It’s so refreshing to hear the politics of the hosts bleed into the analysis, which should come to the delight of a large portion of their listeners!

This is the perfect podcast if you want to hear informative thoughts on individual videogames. I tend to listen to the pods of games I’ve played. Perfect for me. Great show.

I mean, this podcast has British chaps talking about video games in a thoughtful way. What's not to love? They're pleasant and intelligent, and easy to follow (their accents are more BBC-type than Peaky Blinders-type, and there's not much slang). It's also nice that they cover a wide range of games over tons of episodes, so you can pick and choose to listen to the ones which interest you most. Hope the hosts continue bc you can really tell they're gaining skill in terms of presentation.

This is truly one of the best video game podcasts out there. One of the only ones I've found that really dives into a particular game and gives a full, comprehensive look into it. Enjoy every episode I've listened to. Highly recommend!

This podcast scratches my itch for more in-depth dicussion of game design while providing more than one perspective on games that I might otherwise have not realized. The guys are incredible well-read and informed on the games they cover and it's great to be able to spend two or three hours listening to them talk about just one game that I've been playing lately. A great listen for anyone that is interested in game design.

Cane and Rinse takes a different approach to games podcasting than other shows. Each week is a comprehensive look at just one game and there are few rules about what that game might be save that it can't have been released within the past year. The panelists are great and insightful, and you can tell that each of them--especially the show's main host, Leon--feels passionate about the industry and the medium as an artform. Cane and Rinse is the best example there is of the kind of criticism videogames need moving forward if they're to evolve and grow as an artform. There are no perfect scores here, only careful deconstructive analyses about works well in games, what doesn't, and why they're relevant (or not) today.

I'm a 26 year old man and getting into gaming becomes harder every year. I long for the feeling of my teen years where I could crush game after glorious game enjoying newer graphics, exciting gameplay, and most of all fantastical narratives. I get a little bit of that feeling back listening to these great reviewers. This podcast fills the hole in my life for having a group to talk to reasonably about games in a deep and almost philosophical way. Of course I can't talk back being the listener but you get my point. Most of the panel are fun and even headed individuals with interesting opinions (though I don't always agree) who really get into the meat of a game. This podcast is exactly what I want for a workout, or a long car drive. This is no 20 minutes polygon quality control sliver of a review. Often these are lengthy and highly indepth discussions of great games. I love most of the panel reviewers and honestly dislike none of them, though I prefer some to others. The reason this review is not a 5 star rating makes me kind of sad. Unfortunately it's politics. Yes the thing ruining the world at the moment, injected into everything from music, to hollywood and yes even to gaming. Now I don't begrudge anyone their beliefs and certainly not the right to do what they will with THEIR podcast. I'm simply saying I have enough of politics in my day to day whether that be me seeking it out of my own accord or it being shoved down my throat by the various entertainment industries. I don't for a minute suspect this group of podcasters of being on someone's payroll to push a social or political agenda but it depresses me to no end to hear a podcast about Witcher 2 (one of my favorite games) and hear them talk about how women are accurately portrayed in a medieval setting being sexist for like 20 minutes and only talk about the ending for like 5 minutes. I'm not saying these things aren't worth talking about to some degree but to prioritize this over the plot of the game is kind of irritating to me. Still Love the show more than enough to let something like this ruin it for me and to C&R's credit the subject doesn't come up too often but often enough for me to be bothered by it. I'm not saying they're doing anything wrong but I'm saying as I consumer of the podcast it's something I'd rather not dwell on. Personal preference. All in all this is a great podcast with a great group of people here to entertain and keep gaming alive and interesting for olderish gamers like myself. Well worth a listen and subscribing.

The "In Our Time Podcast" of video games (although not as well edited for time).. It's rare to find such professionalism and detail on this topic.

Pick a game, any game. If Cane and Rinse has covered it, and it's likely they have (or will soon), you're in for a great show. These guys are like a book club for games. They spend two hours per episode dissecting whichever game is in a given episode's title. They inspired me to make my own such show but I can merely aspire to do as well as C&R does. They're fantastic in every way.
