These guys may have sold their souls for this podcast but I’d say it was worth it

Being emergent and hating your parents was cool 10 years ago, but now that I’m in my 30’s I realize that this podcast really doesn’t have anything to offer, and that John Cooper might actually be on to something.

Absolutely lame. It took over 45 minutes to get to the John Cooper commentary. I listened to the three guys cackle on and on and on and on …. I was hoping for some intelligent thoughts about how they disagreed with John. Which I do disagree with John on certain things. Anyhoo, I will not tune in again to Bad Christian. -WJAMES

Seems like they think cussing makes you a more mature Christian. Unbearable.

The incessant laughing is literal nails on a chalkboard. Oh my gosh, I am literally in shock how bad this is. I tried to muscle through because I love the idea of the podcast but I’m tapping out 🥴.

I would’ve thought that they would’ve got real jobs by now.

Of all podcasts .

First, the podcast started with a sex toy ad (seriously), and the hosts dropped f-bombs throughout. Fine, but don’t label this “clean” with that content. Second, I tried to listen to a particular topic that was about 1 hour 20 minutes long, and the hosts hadn’t started even started talking about the primary topic for at least the first 45 minutes. After a while I started fast forwarding and still couldn’t find the actual topic. It was mostly a small group of men talking over each other, laughing, and making jokes, mostly made up on the spot. Perhaps some well thought out arguments, research, or actual content was presented eventually, but the 45 minutes of impromptu chuckling and b****ing ensured I’ll never know.

Low level, still playing in the sandbox. The lights there, They just can’t let it shine.

Please rethink saying things like “Mike Driscoll sees the Bible clearer than I do” and “We need Mike Driscoll” when so much of his theology, the policies and structures he enacted, and actions towards others was monstrously sexist, misogynistic, manipulative, and abusive to everyone.

My second favorite pizza is Costco pizza but my first favorite is Little Caesar’s

This guy is a train wreck and has melted his brain and his family. I appreciate you challenging him but there should be a very clear warning about the dangers of a psychotic break with these drugs. He couldn’t even tell you what his child was up to now in a normal way. They started talking about baby Einstein. I understand that time is relative but inability to answer basic questions is a sign of brain damage. Leaving ministry was probably the best plan for this family but they chose a much more harmful path. And his closure was going to the Hussler club with his wife? What kind of abuse is that? Jeanette clearly has a traumatic background and she’s allowed herself to stand behind a man that is off his rocker. I can’t imagine what their children are living when you ask them questions and he talks more about drugs than his children. This guy was clearly a wolf and now he’s leading more people down dangerous paths.

Was really funny 5 or 6 years ago but, all aspects of this show have digressed -- hosts, content and format.

Nothing about this feels like people who actually go to church and striving to be more like Jesus. Sad to see this so highly rated. Show how watered down the Bible is becoming.

I was an early fan when the pod first started, I loved how they tackled topics in the church that were uncomfortable to discuss. Then things got fishy so I stopped listening. I tuned back in today, you know, just to see how it has changed and my goodness... you got these guys lamenting over missed opportunities over premarital sex??? Shameful. They were like “we would only go so far and we would feel so bad about” no kidding. Painting it as if they would have felt better if they had gone “all the way” This is not a biblical disposition, this is sin. All men are wicked apart from a holy God, but to advocate sin in such a proud way? Shame on you. I laude you guys for your early work, presenting yourselves as broken men but pursuing a relationship with God, ya know, as it should be, but you guys are in sin, you’re causing brothers and sisters to stumble, and like your more recent reviews, I’m calling on you to repent and stop presenting yourselves as Christians so long as you continue in these ways.

This podcast has gone from 3 guys having honest conversations about things that needed to be challenged in the church to 2 jaded guys who take every opportunity to blast and tear down the church. Listened for a few years but I won’t listen again.

Listened to this because John Cooper was on and it will be the only episode I listen to. The John Cooper interview was fine, but whoever the lady that was on before?! They interviewed her and belittled and labeled her as an “unbeliever” so they wouldn’t ask her certain questions and put her down for having a nanny instead of “raising and taking care of her kids herself” and they constantly compared her to her husband which they are in a band together so they work TOGETHER. She was clearly uncomfortable the entire time and it was super immature. Wish I could give this no stars instead of one.

Interesting take in the reviews by many Christians. I miss the days of thinking I had everything figured out and was following Christ. Unfortunately real life happens and there’s sometimes little the Bible or our perception of God (lets be honest, we all have a different one) can do to help. Christians are taught some very harmful and not biblical based ideologies in America specifically. Ever wonder where in the Bible you find where it says to ask Jesus into your heart? No. Interesting. Probably because it’s not there. Many, many things taught in “the church” are baseless, manipulations or their own biased. You can tell yourself that your faith is unshakable but at some point, it is what it is. Gone. In need of an overhaul. Open to a verity of random topics all loosely connected to an expanding spiritual journey. How amazing God has given us this gift and ability to adapt and change. If you want to cling to only the Bible and keep what you think is “absolute truth” and if that works for you- then great. Just understand it doesn’t work for a lot of other people. Oh and I never had a bad personal experience with the church either. Appreciate the topics fellas! Keep em coming!

I really enjoy how they banter. I’m glad how they are not afraid to use profanity and talk like a group men to break down a certain barrier you often find in church. I absolutely love when they talk about Gods word unfortunately it’s very rare.they ask hard questions we should ask ourselves. Unfortunately they love to discuss topics for the main part of the show that do not apply to Gods word. they constantly enjoy pushing their own political agenda that really is sjw topics. They also constantly plug their band, I have been listening for 9 months and they rarely talk about God or the word of god. They have also compared the Norwegian flag to the confederate flag.

Are you guys the Bad Christian Podcast or the Emeryland “let’s talk about music all the time” Podcast? I used to love this podcast. A lot of people gave you guys crap when Joey left, but I held on. Sometimes your pods are amazing—providing a Jesus centered or different view on current topics in the world and Christianity. And then sometimes I feel like it’s a podcast about music only. Joey was the balancing force that kept it about what is a “Bad Christian”.

Not rooted in truth, mostly rooted in angst against what they know church to be. Not very open minded, actually!

I’m pretty addicted to this podcast. It is fun to hear them break out of their fundamentalist upbringing. I just wish they knew mainline denominations existed (UCC, PC(USA), ELCA, UMC, Episcopal Church). The “I don’t vote” thing, though, is insane, dangerous, and nothing to put on blast.

I highly recommend reading the Bible. There seems to be a lot of misinterpretation of the gospel.

I was introduced to this podcast by my pastor 4 years ago. He said these guys were funny, real, and thought provoking Christians who thought outside the Christian bubble. I loved these guys for their stories, their honesty, the interesting guests, and the fact that they seemed to want to follow Jesus. Over the last 2 yrs it seems the last part definitely has changed. They have become so jaded and liberal about the church as well as no longer upholding the authority of scripture. When Joey left, they lost their amazing group dynamic and now it’s not nearly as entertaining. I suggest they take Christian out of their title since they are in no way followers of Christ according to the Bible.

Became overly self aware and focuses on divisive content far too often.

BCP used to be a podcast where “edgy” middle aged Christian men. Provided some decent conversation. I rarely agreed with their own personal convictions but there was always a good balance when it came to guests and the topics they tackled. Over the past year or so I’ve noticed a dramatic shift in the content. It’s all Christian bashing. Most of their guests are very liberal leaning and have animosity towards Christianity. I listened to this pod for about 5 years or so. It’s time to hang my hat on this one.

Matt and Toby give a great break from the train wreck of life going on. I enjoy their zest for life and honesty. If you’ve never heard an episode this is a great place to start, you’ll fall in live with their banter and follow along easily

37 min in and still not into the interview. Tighten up the use of time.

These guys are like 13 year olds in an 8th grade bathroom talking dirty to make each other feel big and grown up. Bottom line is Scripture has admonishment upon commandment upon advise upon pleading that we think different than the world SO THAT we can be a difference maker to unbelievers in being attractive to them and sharpening them and representing Christ. Fact that by his own admission Joey uses as mush profanity as he can as long a Greg Surrat isn’t around should tell him something is wrong here, something doesn’t compute. Why can I be Mr ‘appeal to the world’ ( which blasphemy and proafinity doesn’t) one day and ‘Rev. holy guy’ the other all the while in girls pants. Strange things are happening in this world and your looking a heap more like it than ever. It’s spreading at SeaCoast and many other youth, college and single Bible Study leaders are using profanity in their small groups and community groups. Nice legacy youre leaving guys. Unreal. Just like Lot. They choose the closer side, they draw nearer, the begin to establish themselves in this area (BCP) then what’s next? Lot jumped all in, fully integrated by being a leader and marriage to S&G. Full in. My folks said don’t play with fire boys. You are doing all you can to normalize your 14 year old mindset. I thought men’s frontal lobes matured at 25 but some take long I guess. Anyway, what a shame to leave a legacy such as these guys to have great guests, a following, occasional good subject matter but all the while, the main focus is to see how many potty mouth soundbites they can cram in. Time is too short to listen for the very thin veneer of Christian teaching in this podcast, it’s just 8th grade locker room children, not mature pastors rightly dividing the Truth of Gods Word which is given not as a bunch of rules to hurt you but instead like the rules my loving parents set for me to guide and bless and protect and instruct me. Because they loved me, they set well planned and safe boundaries, and so does our loving Lord. All He does for you is out of 100% Holy Love- He is crazy about you! Phil 4:8-9- thing about that for awhile :)

I have been listening to you guys for a while but not just as Emery but as BC podcast. I have a similar story of growing up in the church, being apart of it, and being on staff and never really asking some of the tough questions. This podcast has shown me that Christianity isn’t as rigid as our predecessors have made it out to be. Avoiding talking about evolution or homosexuality or other taboo topics is something I never understood and I am grateful you guys aren’t afraid to go there. I love that you guys push the envelope on the questions that most Christians would avoid. I also enjoy the banter in the podcast. (Some other reviews don’t seem to enjoy the funny dialogue you guys have. I think they expect y’all to be a radio show, but it’s a podcast. You can banter all y’all freakin want.) Anyways, thank you guys for continuing to put out great content/art lol.

Been listening/reading since the blog days, and have learned a lot and developed greatly through their content. They've declined dramatically, however, and the shows are hard to get through and just not worth listening to. It's turned from interesting, though-provoking content to self-congratulatory boring small talk without an important original member. Sorry guys, but maybe it's time.

I’ve listened to a lot of episodes to try and get a good feel for the show and decided that most of every episode is not worth listening to. The “catching up” portion at the beginning is always 15-30 minutes, which is wayyy too long and I end up skipping through it because the majority of the time they’re just fighting with each other! What is the point of that? Is it supposed to make us feel connected to the real ness of their friendship with each other?? Idk. Then the interviews themselves are sometimes helpful, but I think more so for someone who is just beginning to deconstruct their Christian faith. Overall, I would enjoy it so much more if there was more structure and less small talk.

It’s been pretty rough without Joey. I am not super surprised that they broke it off. Joey was always more of the voice of reason. Now it’s just some awkward thing where they are trying to be woke and coin their own terminology thinking it’s really special. I hate to be mean but I’ve been a listener since the very beginning but I just can’t listen anymore.

Lame podcast that used to be interesting. Go be bus-drivers and quit overpromising on all of the new ideas and projects that you have. Skip.

I’m starting to understand why Joey left. Before you used to get an idea for what these guys stood for. Not so much now. You’ll hear some fun ideas with liberal ideas peppered in with the occasional... “those Christians” comments. I will continue to listen just to get a sense where I stand in the world. Or “post-Christian” world lol. So woke these guys are.

This podcast is terrible. Bad quality, the conversations are boring and it drones on. Waiting for anything of substance or worth listening to is a straight waste of time. You’ll eventually end up where I’m at, which is turning it off. The constant hammering at decent dialogue is exhausting. The reviews are accurate, skip it. Have fun trying to figure out “the they” in any of this. Their weird inside jokes that they never clue the audience into are not only confusing but incredibly cringeworthy. Not even sure where the title of their “show” came from. Nothing is ever made clear. It’s a mess of talking. And most importantly. Super sad that these two guys felt their mocking of trans* individuals deserved being on a podcast. As someone with Tourette’s, I’m so disappointed with the ignorance and the blatant disregard of others. As much as I enjoy some fun political banter, the minimizing of anyone is not only pointless but repulsive. As a gay man, the homophobia is nauseating. Ditching these guys and glad to be.

I loved listening to the early episodes. I didn’t always agree but enjoyed listening to opposed ideas. They used to have guest on from both sides of ideas. Now you won’t catch a real pastor being invited in the show, or any conservative for that matter. They are all yes men. They will spew one opinion on and episode and then the next week their guesses will have the opposite opinion and they just agree away. They have to spine. Afraid to disagree with someone when they can actually respond. Once off the phone they may tell what they really feel. And to really top it if all they do now is blame Trump for everything.

How can you speak about your morality and abandon the morality of political process?

Listened for about three (3) minutes..... what a group of hypocritical jerks who have no business being voices to anyone other than their own families. Disgraceful, Uneducated, False, Hypocritical, Dishonoring, Wrong, Biased, Wasteful, and Complete Trash. Go get actual jobs that actually contribute to society please..

Matt, I love listening to your podcasts. I first heard you on the Labeled Podcast and followed you to your other ones. However, I have to say, you talk over your guests quite a bit, primarily with the Dustin Kensrue episode. I’ve always respected that you give people a cool and unique platform to speak their mind, so please let them speak it! It’s interesting listening to this podcast as a former Christian. I probably won’t ever return to Christianity, but I’m still interested in what’s happening in this community, and I appreciate the intelligence and thoughtfulness that you exhibit.

This use to be a good podcast but now every time I download an episode because the title looks interesting it turns into a trump bashing podcast and nothing about the topic titled is talked about. Trump is not what’s wrong with “everything” it’s people that wine and complain about it him that are the problem. The lies and hatred you guy spew is way worse than anything Donald Trump has ever said,. Very sad,.. bye bcpc. Unsubscribed!

I use to enjoy this show, but now it’s just become another let’s bash Christianity and Christians because they are so judgmental. Which is exactly what these guys are doing. It’s this whole deconstruct my faith to reconstruct my faith BS that’s so “trendy” right now. “Oh I lost my faith and it’s the church’s fault” take some responsibility for your own actions and your own decisions and stop blaming others for your own short comings.
