Karen
Big facts Karen. It’s one of the few medications available for the disease, to help combat it. One can be on it their entire life. Especially if it keeps them clean. The goal is to eventually step down for lots of people but the main goal for everyone is to stay clean, no matter what. Anyways l, like your post and wanted to comment ….of course…. Wishing you the best!

Medication assisted treatment
Hi. I listened to a few episodes of your show. If you’re open to it, I would love to come on and talk about my experience of being on suboxone for almost 13 years (and counting). For me; suboxone is part of my treatment and you say “you can’t stay on it for the rest of your life.” I beg to differ. I would love to discuss. Many people with diseases are on medications for their whole lives. Diabetics who take insulin. People with thyroid issues taking synthroid. Don’t discourage people from taking something that could save their life. I have handled my issues - and continue to - and I wouldn’t have been able to without the medication. Let’s be open minded - there are many ways to get and stay clean. The bottom line is we don’t want people to die.

Not good
As a former addict of all things for 12 years, It’s definitely obvious she knows nothing about addiction. Please know, there are no steps to get a loved one into treatment. In fact, the more family members pressure the addict, the less likely they are to get help. No one is going to want to get clean until THE ADDICT decides it’s time. But I do like listening to others stories, I just wish the host were more educated on the subject.

Excellent Information
Dear Joanie, Have you contacted Ryan Hampton to discuss his participation in this case? His book Unsettled is very telling.
Proud and Grateful Mom
Why does this woman have a podcast???
I have listened to a few episodes and I’m literally stunned. This lady knows nothing about addiction or drugs for that matter. Yet she does a podcast about ADDICTION. She’s always asking them what a drug is or saying she’s never heard of that. And to top it off she rushes the guests to get to the end of the story. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Lame Guests
The guests are lame - Nick Bush - waste of time and can barely put thoughts together. Much better addiction podcasts out there. Much.

Latest episode
Their argument on gateway drugs is uninformed and over generalized. Typical for the episodes in this series.

What a beautiful attitude on life. Very inspiring for all.

“Gateway drug”
They say that marijuana is a big deal and a gateway to harder drugs, need I say any more? Clearly biased and not worth a listen.

"Can I Speak to the Manager" Lady, in podcast form
I try to be open-minded to many perspectives, unfortunately this woman parrots some pretty bad ideas. As someone with my feet planted in two ostensibly conflicting worlds, drug enforcement and harm reduction, I see it all. Authoritarian nobody's like this woman are a dime a dozen, and should be kept on the outside of complex issues like this. Hard pass.

Inspiring Personal Stories
Thanks to Joanie and Jason for this podcast. The format is straightforward: personal stories of hope and redemption. I learn something from each episode (I am entering my 12th year of recovery). I’ve found the show features people from many walks of life, given rein to discuss what have been their greatest sources of strength and inspiration. The more stories I hear, the more ideas I get for transforming my own life. Whether a person is an advocate of Narconon, the 12 steps, or another form of recovery, I’m sure there is something I can learn from his/her story…if I listen. The Addiction Podcast gives me that opportunity.

Do you remember the DARE program?
Addiction is a serious issue in this country. When I was growing up we had the DARE program that taught kids how to handle situations dealing with alcohol and drugs. In addition to the DARE program there we also had after school specials and Saturday morning tv shows That dealt with drugs and alcohol and what you should do if you or your friends had a problem. So even if parents didn’t quite know how to initiate the conversation with their children these things gave them an “in”. This podcast reminds me of the things that I grew up with. Hearing the stories first hand really puts things in perspective. This podcast isn’t like the ones you’re use to. The ones that are full of fluff, condescending and stuffy. Although drug addiction is a serious matter the show is (for lack of a better term) interesting and engaging. These are real people sharing their real life experiences. I plan on sharing this podcast with the group of young adults that I mentor. Thank you for your time and effort.

Amazing stories, amazing show.
There needs to be more shows like this. It's amazingly positive, and most importantly it is handling a problem in our society that absolutely needs to be handled. Well done and thanks Joanie and Jason!

Harmful Not Helpful
If I could give this zero stars I would. This is not helpful information for anyone suffering from THE DISEASE of addiction.

I laughed at the ridiculousness
This is a podcast that is lacking in facts and the weight of addiction and the lives of people it effects. I didn't hear intelligence I just heard judgment. Furthermore, there's an episode about marijuana that is really upsetting due to the lack of science presented. Marijuana helps a lot of people live productive lives and it's LEGAL in several states now. Obviously not for everyone but that episode sounded so silly.

Stupid
Lest we forget psych meds.... take this stupid episode down. Shame on you both. It’s the drugs fault, right? 🤷🏻‍♀️

Not informative.
I’m a RN and have been listening to a few different addiction-related podcasts to help better serve the people I care for. This is by far the worst one. It lacks scientific backing, is mostly opinion, and is rooted in Scientology. It rips on other substance abuse treatment methods and states that addiction isn’t a disease. If Narconon worked for you, awesome. But working to discredit other organizations, treatments, and methods is not helpful to those who need help or to the loved ones looking for help. I do not recommend this podcast.

Not an educated and informed discussion
I’ve listened to a few episodes and can’t stand to hear any more. The discussion regarding one substance in particular was full of misinformation that even the slightest bit of research would have shown to be misleading, at best. They basically threw out their opinions which were not based on scientifically proven facts. They discussed the effects this substance supposedly has on the body and were totally off base on what it actually does. It’s mind blowing to me that with the information that’s available and with how important this topic is that they would be so lackadaisical in their approach and presentation. I gave the podcast two stars because I do believe they mean well, but they’ve lost all credibility with me. Anyone who listens to this podcast, please do your own research and take everything stated with a grain of salt.

BEWARE - Scientology Front Group
This is made by Narconon, a Scientology front group that has had numerous accounts of abuse, some of which have led to death. The group is anti-psychiatry and their method of healing involves making patients OD on vitamins and other supplements (and can lead to serious medical issues). They are a dangerous organization more interested in producing stats (their claims of healing vs people they have helped is HIGHLY questionable) for Scientology than getting people the help they need. Avoid this show and find one that puts people ahead of profits.

Interesting
I’m a recovering addict and am a huge advocate of the 12 step program AA or NA. This program is Scientology based. 👎🏽also their opinion on suboxone and methadone is only their opinion. Suboxone saved my life along with my NA meetings and step work with sponsor. It’s good to get an objective opinion I guess. And that Joanie chic, has she even ever spoked pot. How can she possibly identify without Judgment?

It’s Scientology Folks
Hosts like to “poo poo” twelve step programs. I believe there are many ways to get sober but let’s not be so judgmental about them. The technology they referenced also is part of what Scientology uses. Narcanon is a Scientology based program. Not judging, Just FYI:-)

Great detail
Opioids are discussed in great detail. Has become an epidemic. This podcast covers a lot of ground, and there are many facts and strong opinions but at least they are talking about the problem

Great
Law enforcement has a tough job. Stopping the trafficking from Mexico and China. Pam Bondi is really focused on stopping these drugs at the source.

Great
Some of the interviews with addicts are frightening, intense but really paint a picture of what some people go through, but still makes the point that help and hope are available.

five stars
An objective look at the growing opioid and drug problem particularly in the U.S. Interviews are from all aspects of the problem, from law enforcement to addicts that have gone through rehab, to parents, friends and relatives to support groups.

Unfortunate
I was excited to listen to this podcast in preparation for a community forum following the drug related death of a youth. I hoped to learn about the etiology and treatment of opioid addiction. This podcast did provide some information, but was heavily flavored with judgement, blame, and shame. It was an unfortunate and frustrating discovery because it has such potential.

Really good information.
Good that someone is doing something about this growing problem.

This is a really good podcast
Very comprehensive view of opioid problem and how it affects addicts, parents, friends and others.

Real Solutions for Addicts
I've known about the Narconon program for some time. Fortunately, I've not needed it, but I do know others who did. They went through a VERY thorough approach to the handling of addiction. I'm so glad a podcast has been created to let folks know about Narconon and about the struggles and the solutions for addiction.
