Long time listener for a reason. Ben never disappoints with a genuine interview style which shows care and curiosity for those he’s speaking with. An excellent resource for my students and my own practice. Keep up the amazing work!

Always the best podcast every week
Ben is such a delightful and educated interviewer- I’m not sure where he got such insightful interviewing skills as a lifelong potter, but he has them in spades. I always learn something new, and while I’m mostly interested in abstract large form sculpture I still find a great deal of enjoyment in each episode. I’ve also learned in depth about lusters- Islamic reduction luster and in-glaze luster that have got me started on new paths in testing glazes and I was able to have wonderful email conversations with a few of his guests who do luster. I especially enjoy anytime Ben talks about majolica and Isnik pottery!

Listening to Walter O a 2nd time
Thanks Ben for bringing these wonderful interviews into my home. I’ve just finished listening to the latest interview Walter Ostrom again. It’s the one coinciding with his retrospective book Good Earth. I feel like anytime spent with Walter makes me smarter. He has been a huge influence on my work and how I think about pottery. I learn something new each time I listen. I’m thrilled to have him recorded for all time. I spent two weeks with him at a workshop and I will never be the same. He is a one off and we are all so lucky to have access to him in this way. Clearly it’s time for me to buy a book. Thanks again Ben

grab a cup of coffee and sit a spell
this is still without a doubt my favorite time, when i actually have the free time in my car and my mind is not swamped with errands, i can sit and listen to a great conversation. Most of the time it makes me laugh, and all the time it makes me think. as always, thanks Ben.

Thanks
Thank you for creating such an insightful podcast! Ben asks the best questions, allows the potter or guest to answer, no matter how long it takes. And he usually asks the question that I would too. My favorite part (that happens almost every show) is when there is a “heavy” discussion and the guest stops and asks “What was the question?” I love all of your topics and was a little surprised at a recent show about addiction. But I learned so much and was thankful that Ben is honest about issues that affect us all. I love the discussions on creating, history, teaching, aesthetics.... and more. Keep up the good work!!

A creative conversation haven
This is my favorite podcast for so many reasons. Ben picks and discusses such diverse artists and topics that every episode offers fresh and new content. Recently, the John Gill episode hit me right in the heart and truly made me feel connected to this amazing community in a way I never thought possible. Ben is such a good interviewer- he’s always prepared and has great questions and responses. I listen to this podcast while in my studio, sketching, cooking, doing dishes, it’s just right for anything. Thank you so much Ben!

My favorite podcasts
I listened to the podcast about Pewabic Pottery and loved it! Like all TRCR podcasts, I learned a great deal. I'm a collector, not an artist, and your podcasts increase my knowledge of the history of ceramics, various techniques, and artists themselves. Thanks so much!

Late to the Party, just in time
Thanks Ben for a kaleidoscope of ceramic perspective. I feel my studio is at the nexus of academia and studio experience. I have been planning my exit from the tech world for a decade and just about to launch out into the wilderness of ceramics. I have left my tech tools in favor of mud. Your interviews are with people who are experiencing a 'living by art' and it seems, what you aspire to - and how difficult it is. I have come from many backgrounds and many tribes and I can say that it is not easy anywhere. In the end there is only the doing. You are bringing the people who fill NCECA and workshops and residencies nationally to lone potters in small shelters by the lakes of Michigan. I went back to the beginning of the series and am about up to 34 - I keep wanting to go back and listen to these people singing their dreams. The system keeps trying to push the latest issue at me, I would prefer to pull off a whole year and binge as I can...However I found that an 8 hour cone 10 can take 10 hours if your listening to your guests.... what a great thing for everyone in clay.....

Great job!
I have no idea how I stumbled on your podcast. Probably from one of those artsy magazines/newspapers in Santa Cruz. I tuned in and really liked the story of the female artist/potter from Australia you were interviewing. I found out you had moved to California from Georgia and I felt an instant connection. I am from Georgia and at the time was also living in California. We spent a lot of time in Santa Cruz but I never did find out where you are located. I wanted to stop by and say hello and say thank you. Thank you for making me interested enough in pottery and process that I took a class with my 10 year old daughter and fell in love with it. I have my own wheel and kiln now and we are having fun making all sorts of mistakes and learning. All because I happened upon your podcast.

Behind the scenes
I just listened to the most recent episode Omnus Terra panel. I was fortunate to have been able to be there for the live taping. It was really great not only the to see/hear interview in person, but to see how Ben puts it all together and also watch what a pro he is as an interviewer! Great discussion on many levels. Really enjoyed it.

Favorite Podcast
I listen to Ben Carter ( Podcast host) religiously in my studio, or on the way to school. Each episode delves into very well thought out interviews with many artists. Every time I listen to a episode I walk away with something new to try, or think about in my own life/work. I really enjoy that I can continue the conversations with my friends long after the episodes are over. I feel that Ben does a great job asking questions that we ( viewers ) are curious about. He keeps things relaxed, but informational making his podcast fun and accessible. I feel very grateful to have this podcast as a educational/ entertainment resource. At 170+ episodes and growing there's plenty of content to tune into.

Calling All Potters
Thanks Ben for the wonderful interviews last week from the Utilitarian Clay Symposium. I've listened to each of them twice already because it brought back memories of being there and these were like bonus conversations that I did not have but got to listen in on! Each one was great on it's own, but as a grouping I'm sure it gave someone a really good idea of what the symposium is all about and how special Arrowmont is. I give all of your episodes Five Stars. Please keep them coming.

Thought Provoking Interview Questions
Ben has this way with his questions that he asks his guests throughout interviews that so often leave me pondering for hours after I listen to each episode. Being a beginning potter myself, I not only get the insight of amazing artists around the world, but I get to ask myself some of the same questions which I really adore and feel happily challenged by. My world has been opened to more levels of skill and style just in the last 9 months than I could ever have imagined because of this podcast other forms of social media like Periscope and Instagram.

I like your podcast very much. I started down loading them several months ago, but never got around to listening. On a recent long car trip I started listening and now I can't get enough. I just started listening from #1 so I can hear them all. Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful!

fantastic podcast
I loooove Tales. My favorite thing is that Ben lets the artists speak at length without interruption. I get so much inspiration and practical info from all the folks he interviews. I’m catching up on old episodes and awaiting new ones! Update: OMG - the Roberto Lugo interview blew me away!!! I’m still processing it, 3 days later. Thanks so much!!!

Wow!
I have been meaning to download and listen to some of your podcasts for a while now and I finally got around to it a few weeks back. Since then I’ve been binge listening while working in the studio (with some breaks to let all the information sink in). What you have created here Ben is perhaps one of the most important disseminations of ceramics information that I have encountered. Giving the public the opportunity to sit in and listen to what all of these different makers are talking about and are doing is just fabulous. Also, you are really good at the interview process; I really appreciate the relaxed and conversational style. Cheers!

Five-Star Pottery Podcast
I love this podcast! Each episode is like a welcome visitor in my studio. Ben’s interview style is easy-going, but there is obvious research behind the way he directs the conversation. This leads to episodes that are chock-full of great information, while also capturing the personality of his guests. He is friendly, yet respectful. And, in turn, it feels like he both appreciates and respects his audience. I’ve listened to every episode of Tales of a Red Clay Rambler, and I’ve learned something from each one – and had a great time too. Thank you, Ben!

The agony and ecstasy...
All in all, I love what Ben is doing with this podcast. He brings Potters from across the spectrum to join in an important conversation about their relationships with clay. I love how Ben invites us into conversations about studio practice, history, and the role of ceramics in contemporary culture. Although I may disagree with some of his guests, I love the dialogue Ben challenges me to continue in my own studio practice. Congratulations Ben on an exciting 100+ episodes. The ceramics community is stronger because of your continued efforts.

Wonderful resource!
Red Clay Rambler is a wonderful blend of all things art and clay. I appreciate the depth and range of knowledge represented, and Ben does a great job moderating the interviews. Often times the moderator can dominate the conversation, but Ben throws out thoughtful questions and topics, and allows the guests to formulate careful and meaningful responses. Time flew by listening to episodes, and I can’t wait to make my way through each one!!

It’s about time!!
Thank you Ben for offering you time and services to the pottery community. I’ve been listening now for about 4 months and I’m hooked on your show. Your guests offer such great insights into our ceramics community, and I really feel more connected then ever. I recommend this podcast to ceramic junkies of all levels. Your free podcast is an invaluable resource, especially in a time where greed and monetary rewards seem to stimulate most intentions. Thanks and I can’t wait until your next show!
