I have listened to StoryCorps for as long as I can remember. It’s the one thing that touches my soul so deeply. My week is not complete until I hear the chords of the guitar every Friday. Thank you for having the foresight to create something so timeless… And beautiful.

This story is so beautiful! I listened to it twice & shared it with family & friends. I am a good friend of Atiba. He & I were part of a Kwanzaa Name Changing ceremony, where he announced his name, Atiba Mbiwan. I was unaware of how he came to choose his name. The one thing that I feel must be corrected is the fact that Atiba’s son not only has a daughter but he also has a son with the last name Mbiwan. We all know that the daughters don’t usually carry on the surname; it’s the sons. Therefore, by leaving out the grandson it appears that the name will die with the granddaughter when in fact it can survive with the grandson. My understanding is that you had that information but did not mention it. Can you provide that addition & explain it to the audience please? Thank you ! Blessings ! Nilajah

There is an important distinction. Story Corp is independent and separate from NPR. NPR simply runs some of their programming

I enjoy hearing core stories of peoples lives, especially people who are so different from myself. Storycorps true stories tell so much in a short segment. Often people’s stories tell about their perseverance to obtain their goals. A worthwhile listen.

When I listened to the story it resonated with my soul having experienced the loss of my mother. As the story unfolded I felt uplifted and encouraged by the familiar tone of the ‘Black mother experience’ that uprights you for the journey ahead. Thank you Ms Turner. Well done!

StoryCorps is a way to carry grief or express regret with honor. It is a way to say things unable to be said otherwise. Only StoryCorps is able to reflect and say that which we cannot.

Found this through little bits on Instagram, and find them so interesting. What a great way to hear “everyday people” and their lives. Many just every day, but that everyday and the little tweaks or different “steps” of living made history. Really cool.

I used to love this podcast. But the new host is awful. She sounds like a 6th grader and has no apparent talent or skill in this field. Why make this choice? Is she perhaps the daughter of someone in a position of power there? Unbearable.

Listening to the contributions of people you may pass on a walk is inspiring, educating and most often, fun.

I love this pod, but I need you to release stories that have Nothing to do with COVID super please. Just do what you do best please.

2020 has been such a hard year. Storycorps provides us with stories of hope, dignity, perseverance, strength and love. I always come away with a little “pearl of wisdom” and feeling stronger and more ready to face what life brings my way. Thank you for helping us stay connected to our humanity.

While I find the stories that are presented here to be interesting and engaging, the self-aggrandizing attitude of the hosts can overwhelm the sincerity of the people who have taken the time to share their stories. It would seem that the hosts, including Story Corps founder Dave, are well-intentioned, but their over-the-top underscoring and attestations to the profundity of their mission really undercut the whole premise of the show. Please, let the stories speak for themselves. Your efforts to insert yourselves into the stories are unwanted and unnecessary.

The host voice is so soothing, almost meditative . The stories are heart wrenching, yet so very beautifully told, they all have a lesson or two , and mostly end in a positive note .Enjoy !

Used to be really informative and interesting and the past year has been extremely narrow.

I have listened to StoryCorps stories from the beginning and will continue to listen. The stories are each honest, important, valid, authentic, thoughtful and tap into our humanity and as a result, I am glad all are welcomed here. To the producers, thank you for providing the theme LBGTQ and be encouraged about the series. I, appreciate the learning, inspiration and reflection I receive here from the tellers of their stories over the years and especially this series which aids in making me a better, compassionate, receptive and accepting person and listener. StoryCorps will continue to be one of my favorites and I look forward to many more years of thought-provoking listening. Please keep the stories rolling.

I am lgbt and am extremely hurt by the reviews

I have to laugh when some of y’all who’ve stated you’ve been listening and following for years suddenly deem this podcast series too one-sided or too focused on lgbtq stories. 1) It’s ONE season. That’s been put out within THREE (short, not nearly year-long) months. And it’s just 12 episodes dedicated to an lgbtq theme, out of literally hundreds of episodes/stories from Story Corps. And it’s in honor of an important anniversary year for this group of people (Stonewall Riots for those who genuinely don’t know). 2) On June 28th, 2018, they liiiiiterally dropped an episode to tell us about the new format of the podcast - which they said would be mini seasons with 12 episodes focusing on a singular theme. The first theme was reunions - so my rhetorical question to everyone commenting on how the lgbtq theme is too narrow & seemingly unending, did y’all have these same issues with the first mini season topic about reunions/reuniting? The answer is no, because I had time today & I looked back at the reviews from around that first mini season (last October) & there was one complaint about the format itself, not the topic, of the “Reunion” season. 3) The history of Story Corps is full of specific projects, with books & animated series tht focus on particular topics, like 9/11, mothers, teachers/students, criminal justice, etc. So this isn’t new or out of character for Story Corps... and if it feels new to you, then you haven’t been listening closely and/or you’ve got an issue with this mini-season being about lgbtq voices. Those aren’t reasons to poorly rate the podcast. If you don’t like trans&queer ppl, keep your hate to yourself and move along. 4) Finally y’all, and I say this with love because I also remind myself of this all the time, the podcast, like many things in this big world, isn’t about YOU. It’s about humanity, which is ALL the people, not just people you agree with or feel similar to. If this season doesn’t speak to you that’s valid & fine, just wait for the next season, which is right around the corner, since the 12 episodes on the lgbtq have already concluded.

Too narrow a focus —especially since it’s the entire year!

I used to like this short podcast. Touching and meaningful. However, lately there isn’t any topic diversity. There is a world out of the LGTB community. Nothing against LGTB. But I think that different topics will be appreciated.

To focused on one narrative now.

Why do you have to point out genders? Only transgenders are lonely? Only gays are lonely? I have decided to stop listening to your podcast. Btw sin is sin no matter how you want to look at it. Hate the sin and love the sinner. God Bless.

You used to have such great variety of topics but now you are stuck on one. This weekend is the anniversary of the moon landing... where is that story.. sorry to say I’m done...

I have really enjoyed this podcast, But now we are going on the second month of lgbtq stories. Can we move on from this and have a more broad range of stories again, please?

StoryCorp used to be interesting….before they started an ongoing two month campaign of nothing but LGBT themed stories. It’s been going on for two months, who knows how much longer it will last. Way to alienate 90% of your listeners. I’ve unsubscribed.

I love, love, love the show. I’m encouraged, stretched, and mainly stirred in my heart and soul by these real-life human stories. Thank you to the SC staff so very much for believing in this project and investing your lives into helping these stories be heard!

Are there any episodes that aren’t about being gay or transgender? Not that I’m intolerant but sheesh, there are there with stories too aren’t there?

I love to listen to these episodes from these young boys that interviewed all these people, young & old. I’ve listened to them at least 5 times!

I’ve loved Story Corps for years. It was always so nice to hear different stories for people from all different walks of life. The participant’s beliefs and way of living were varied. This season, all episodes are focused on the same subject. Its disapponting that the podcast has chosen to eliminate the variety of topics.

I’m not troubled in the least to have a theme for each season. I would love to hear stories that focus on relationships impacted by therapeutic foster care experiences from birth parents, foster parents, children, grown fostered children, siblings, workers in the system. The awesome impact of neglect and the system that may help, but more often fails to provide competent supportive services to the therapeutic foster families who love these children and struggle to help them recognize unconditional love and understand that they deserve it just because they exist.

I am all about LGBTQ rights, but having too many episodes in a row about it just got way too boring. There used to be a variety of stories about different topics, Time to Move on…

I would like story Corp if we weren’t “remembering stone wall” the only stone wall I want to hear about is stone wall Jackson. Not how far we have come in excepting gays
