I love hearing stories told by someone who loves language and can really read out loud. Another reviewer wrote about their childhood experience of listening to a parent read to them before bedtime and how this podcast fills that void. I relate to this 100%. I still love the comfort and entertainment provided by being told a story. While I love listening to stories, I require a low level of commitment regarding length and time of the piece. Life and attention span often interfere; interrupting the plot and prose. 5 stars for performance and material. Thank you for sharing your wonderful voice, classic as well as contemporary literature and your love of the written and spoken word.

Shawn is not just an amazing podcast host with an amazing voice, he's also an amazing human being as well. The stories are read with such a great energy and he's great to listen to, but he's also a wonderful person out there in the indie podcasting world. When people ask why indie podcasting is so great, I tell them it's because I've gotten to know people like Shawn Ennis. Keep up the great work, my friend. Proud to continue to be a patron as long as you continue to read stories.

Enjoyable delivery of classic and lesser known works. Sometimes the intro runs a bit long, but they include interesting bits about the authors. Looking forward to season 4.

I discovered this cast, by chance about a year ago, and it has become my all time favorite story based podcast! Not only does Ennis cover a wide array of genre and author but he did what i did not think possible... he read several short stories that were buried in the deapest resesses of my memory from high school! ... that sounds like a joke but its very true! And he brought them to life just as i remembered. Cannot more recommend such a quality show than this, soon to be rebranded labor of love.

His voice launches the tales from the page into my dreams every night. I give more outstanding praise for the way her brings stories to life. Most definitely my favorite podcast discovery of 2020.

Most reviews mention the narrator's voice, for good reason. His voice is deep and resonant, yet friendly and encouraging. I particularly like when he reads lighter humor like Mark Twain and O. Henry, because his baritone somehow plays perfectly to the dramatic irony. Sound effects are used with a deft touch, enhancing the narrative without relying too heavily on them. There is one story (Asleep in Armageddon) that I suspect was not intended to be as funny as it is, but I love it. The high ghostly "eeeeeee" noises make me giggle when I hear them. As I said, I am not sure whether the humor was intentional for that particular tale, but I love it. The other stories, whether serious or humorous, are done to excellent effect, of course. But... I just love that "eeeeeee"... :-)

I love this podcast! I found it through “Your brain on facts” and I love it! I also love cats too and I was wondering if you could do more animal stories? Also I really liked when you read the diary of a insane man I think it was called that. Well I love you podcast😘

The reader is excellent. The stories are well-chosen. Even within the limitation of having to use non-copyright texts, most of the stories are well worth a listen. Best of all, there is no buzz-fuzz, the plague of so many podcasts, in this program.We get no bells, whistles and congratulatory pats on the back. Good job!

The very BEST story podcast!!! The stories are varied & interesting. I have several story podcasts , but this one is far superior, compared with the others. The voice is soothing & you want to listen. I love the background info before the stories. I listen to this podcast over & over. I never get tired of “the voice” or the stories. It’s the perfect podcast.

I put on the “A piece of steak” episode on my drive from work. Had about 10 minutes left when I got home. I just sat in the car, on the driveway, unwilling to pause the story until it was over. Obviously, credit goes to Jack London first, for writing it. But right after, it goes to Shawn and his podcast for putting on the perfect performance. What a delight. I can’t do full audio books, but 30-minute stories are just the right format for me. Congrats on an excellent job!

It’s really nice to listen to a podcast that can have Poe in one episode and then a virtually unknown author in the next. Shawn has a great voice. It’s soothing, strong, and downright pleasant. This podcast isn’t just about reading stories, but it also gives you a little background on the stories and authors as well. It’s a must for any literary fiend out there!

Shawn Ennis has a natural gift for voice acting and narration. His voice is deep, resonant and soothing. I love this show so much! I’ve particularly enjoyed his curating classic stories and classic authors. HP Lovecraft, Poe, Washington Irving and O Henry have been particular treats. I really liked the Washington Irving stories, because I listened to The Legend of Sleepy Hollow with my kindergarten-age son, who asked to listen to it again the next 2 nights! I would love having a few more like that sprinkled in, that can be listened to by the whole family, especially around the holidays. My son also really likes the narration. Please, more of these aforementioned authors, especially dear O Henry (interesting factoid: there’s an O Henry Hotel in his hometown of Greensboro). I like the originals, and I’d love to hear more myth-origin type stories like the Kipling tale about the cat- my son asked to listen to that twice too.

I have worked my way through a few of Shawn’s episodes and I am loving everything about his show. I feel like I’m getting a quality radio performance every time I listen to his storytelling. Shawn effortlessly blends new stories and old stories as well as providing a snippet of background information on the author, which I feel makes this show an ideal go-to for educators like myself who look for quality recordings of stories to play in class to give students another avenue for experiencing the story.

A wonderful, modern update of the radio dramas from the past. Each story is read with wonderful voice acting from Shawn and accented with high quality sound effects. Normally, I listen to my podcasts on 1.5x speed. I don’t for this one because of the level of production put into it. The narrator does a great job with voices and tone while the back end production creates an ambiance that you puts you right into the story. If you’re someone that loves actual reads, you should absolutely give this a listen.

Shawn's show is absolutely brilliant. His crisp production value, dedication to making his own sound effects (at times) and setting the mood for the stories he reads is just amazing. A friend turned me on to the show and I've been hooked ever since. The show is wonderful, but Shawn himself even moreso. He's warm, friendly, and inviting, and it really feels like I'm sitting beside him in a coffee shop as he reads. Amazing work, my friend. Cheers!

Checked out SYY and I loved it! As a fan of audiobooks and GraphicAudio this was right up my alley. If you want some well narrated stories with extra voices and sound effects you gotta check out this show! Highly recommended
