I can’t believe I’m only finding this podcast now. I watched TNG when it was on network TV and I’ve been fondly revisiting the series. Your podcast brings me so much joy. I’m all the way back in season 2 and find myself laughing frequently on the ridiculous banter and the jokes. When I used to watch the show with my Dad, we would riff on the show and hearing you do this on every episode makes me remember him fondly. I see that you’ve gotten into Deep Space 9 now and I look forward to making it to that point. Keep up the good work!

Update 2024: Stopped listening a few years back when the episodes were weeks, even months apart. Started having trouble sleeping again, so I’m back for the sleep aide. Thanks chaps. Love the podcast. Been listening since the beginning. Every time I have trouble sleeping this pod puts me right to sleep. It’s amazing. I’ve never made it to the actual episode commentary. Birds of Praise?

This the only TV podcast I listen to regularly. Good clean nerdy fun with plenty of cursing and TV production insights. If you walk dogs or have a bad commute (I have both!) this is a great way to fill the time.

I’m halfway through season 7 of this podcast so I’ve had hundreds of hours to contemplate the perfect, pithy review. This is a good podcast.

Finishing up a trip to Brooklyn for something & decided to use the downtime to say 3 things with my first rating for TNC: 1) I love this show since I started from the beginning in January of this year. I’m only at the Schisms episode right now. 2) Andy’s opinion on Di Fara’s seems to be founded after I had a pizza. 3) My take on the “Riker’s Eggs Debacle” was that he called attention to knowing the eggs weren’t good, but he knew that saying anything more would reflect poorly on him, so he left it at that. Like when someone says “a poor crafter blames their tools.” Secunda!

My first podcast The Weekly Planet Podcast mentioned “those boys at James Bonding.” I binged JB and that led me to ST:TNC so now while I’m waiting each week for a new WPP or JB I binge on Matt and Andy slogging through the TNGiverse. TNG was my teenage years and I’m delighted with each episode. As TNG gets better each season I hope this podcast stays the same! I can’t wait to continue the mission. Disengaged. In this podcast you will meet a very brave man named Andy who works to overcome not only face blindness but also pun blindness in order to review episodes of Star Trek along side his buddy Matt. You are an inspiration Andy! SECUNDA! PS: I realize that Face Blindess is a real thing and hopefully my tounge in cheek review will not offend anybody with the condition. However, I am pretty sure pun blindness is just something that Andy made up.

Star Trek The Next Conversation is a Trek podcast where one host seems to genuinely love and be enthusiastic about Trek, and the other host is named Matt Mira. After finishing season 3 of Picard, I wanted to rewatch TNG for the millionth time, but to change it up I decided to listen to a podcast while watching. TNC seemed an interesting take, in that it was two tv writers of a show I enjoyed, The Goldbergs, going through the series. So I dove into the pod, and since May of 2023 I have literally ignored all of my actually good podcasts in order to mainline this one so that I could catch up. So 9 months later I finally have. My overall feelings about the podcast, and by extension the hosts Matt and Andy, are complicated. It kind of reminds me of this book I read, “Hostage Terrorists, Terrorist Hostage” where a group of hostages in Helsinki, Sweden, began to sympathize with their captors. I should have stopped listening to TNC a long time ago when the constant bumbling antics of both hosts did not stop, even though years of podcasting should have made them more experienced. And yet my mental pathways have become accustomed to them. Their inputs eventually are anticipated, and even missed when absent. Anyways, now that I’ve caught up with the pod, I can finally start yelling at them in real time instead of purely to the void of time.

A very good review podcast. Just disregard their unfortunate political leanings. Don’t hold it against them that they have to cater to the “Hollywood” rules of thought. They are actually quite funny.

I’ve been re-listening to the Next Generation episodes of the podcast to pass time during a stretch of long commutes and had forgotten the Andy Secunda School of Specific Acting had not yet been founded in 2020. Wow, what a treat to be able to hear the early discussions and nuggets of wisdom from our future headmaster that eventually led to the formation of what we know today as “The School.” A true privilege to have these early recordings preserved for posterity.

I started listening to this podcast when it first aired years ago and have enjoyed every 2 hour detour, each mispronunciation of basic terminology, and the rapidly changing grading curve that is the Andy’s rating system. The mirror universe version of this podcast would be under an hour, consistent with its segments and audio cues, and constantly rotating in new hosts as Andy would have killed Matt for power and the new co-host would have killed Andy during an extended lunch. All jokes aside, you have both meant the world to so many of us, and have helped many of us through traumatic times. Darmok and Jalad at Tanagra!

Don’t you know admirals in Star Trek are notoriously evil? Episode 73: Best of both worlds. Time 2 hr 44 min 13 seconds. “We have to do a show that’s almost entertaining” is the best way to describe this podcast.

God I must really like listening to these guys because I’ve already sat through… (checks Fermat’s Last Theorem)… 450 HOURS of them talking about Star Trek. If you want a polished podcast with cultivated hosts and scholarly discussions, then look further because this ain’t it. Five suns.

Saying a podcast is your favorite doesn’t make it necessarily good. I love Matt & Andy’s take on the episodes, as comedy writers. But let’s be honest, this podcast is a 2020 Dumpster Fire of a hot mess and I’m glued to every second of this train wreck! Why? This podcast is what it’s like when my Trek friends and I get together for watch parties. We talk for hours, interrupt one another constantly, and have just as many off-topic tangents and argugreements as Matt & Andy. How awesome is it that Matt accomplished the greatest Coup ever by converting a Star Wars fan into a full fledged Trekkie! They’ve also built a community around their podcast with the facegroup, instagram, and patreon with additional content of other Trek shows. So, please give this podcast a try. I found it in April 2023 and was hooked from episode one, never once looking to see if they were still going or ever finished TNG and now I’m all caught up. Just try it out and you’ll be a fan too! A podcast so good I'm watching New Trek just to get some of that sweet sweet TNC content. After mainlining their TNG podcast episodes (twice) I've finally caught up on DS9, Voyager and Enterprise. So now I'm fitting myself for that Admiral's Club plush robe with gold faux-Tribble fur lining by giving this a genuine 5 star review. This podcast is a great escape away from the day-to-day drudgery, and keeps me company as I crisscross the Valley for my commute. It’s like listening to your two pals discuss everything and anything, and sometimes talking Trek. Keep it up gents...in 8 years or so I look forward to concluding TOS and giving me an excuse to watch Battlestar Galactica again, eh Matt?

Great podcast, if you give them five stars they let you into the good buffet with the lobster macaroni and cheese

I was listening to this podcast for a good half hour, & I didn’t realize I was listening to it in 1 1/4x speed until the next podcast episode I had queued up started playing (The Office Ladies) & noticed Angela & Jenna were talking faster than usual. I love that this show is so unedited that I can’t even tell when it’s sped up. At times, I even think the episode stopped playing because there’s such a big gap between them talking. Lastly, I can’t get this quote out of my head: “Did Paul Thomas Anderson write this? Edit people.” -Lorelai Gilmore Truly though, never edit! I love the relaxed nature of the show.

My absolute hands down favorite podcast. I haven’t left a review even though I’ve listened for years because I’ve never been able to think of something clever enough to merit my prestigious entry to the Admirals’ Club! Perhaps this will let me just squeak by. I love it when an episode clocks in at a ridiculous 2+ hours and is full of more rambling nonsense than Star Trek. Never edit! Keep the digressions! This podcast got me through the pandemic and multiple hurricanes. Love you guys!

Worf; Ah, "Star Trek: The Next Conversation," a battle of wits and a journey through the stars. Matt Mira, a true warrior with a heart full of honor, and Andrew Secunda, a skeptic yet worthy adversary, traverse the cosmos of all things star trek tales. Their discourse, as engaging as a Klingon duel under the moons of Qo'noS. Their loyalty to the essence of the saga, admirable. I find their camaraderie reminiscent of the bonds forged on the USS Enterprise. A commendation to their endeavor, this podcast is a tribute worthy of a saga that transcends the stars. A worthy listen for any true warrior! 5 out of 5

Having consumed most of this podcast, I’m finally reviewing. But only because I’m really really concerned that Matt believes he needs 7 episodes in a row to fall asleep to and that is just so concerning. Are you ok? I know you have a young child but what kind of sleep are you getting if it takes you over 4 hours of distraction? The theme song is gonna wake you up every 42 minutes anyways. Trust me. I’ve tried to sleep to trek, so I know what I’m talking about. Just pick two good ones and set a sleep timer. But honestly do ds9 instead. The theme is so much more stately and you’ll just sleep so much better. Ok. Hope you’re ok. Love the show.

That is to say, upon discovering this podcast 3 weeks ago. I’ve now listened through season 2. It’s been incredible. I haven’t been this stoked on TNG since the days of the Geordi LaForge Halloween costume my mother made me in 1991. I’m so glad I refused the blackface. I hope that once i catch up to y’all, the quality of production hasn’t improved. I’ve heard your voices in my sleep and it’s disturbing. Take comfort knowing you’re tied for MVC from my golden banana clipped vantage point. Jared

This podcast is like spending time with two nerdy friends talking about anything and everything and also Star Trek. I loved TNG back in the day, but didn’t keep up with all the other shows that followed. This pod is making me go out and binge them all. Paramount should be giving them a commission!

I would prefer that every episode would last at least as long as 3 or 4 episodes of the actual TV show. Maybe go in more depth on the horns that are used in the sounds that you play for the “would you watch” segment. At least give us the name of the horns or whatever. Anyways still pretty good show overall. Thanks Matt and Andy.

Ummmmmm uhhhhhh ummmmm uhhhhh maybe your episodes wouldn’t be so long if you cut out the filler sounds. Low quality on the sound bites and generally not well produced in the day and age of software everywhere to clean up podcasts like this.

Matt and Andy talk about Star Trek the way I would have talked about Star Trek if I had any friends who watched Star Trek. I had ankle surgery in June and decided to rewatch The Next Generation while I recuperated, and I listened to several different episode by episode podcasts before settling on TNC because the humor and silliness blended so well with Trek insight. Having finally completed listening to the entire catalog, I now feel qualified to enter the Admiral’s Club and confirm that this podcast is indeed worthy of 5 stars.

I have been listening since episode 3 and love Matt and Andy. Why has it taken me so long to write a review? Like Matt and Andy I had every good intention of writing one, but well…. I have the same follow through as the hosts do on most things. What made the difference? A fellow listener snuck me into the Admirals Club so I would keep my mouth shut (even though I am not a snitch). I got a taste of that virtual shrimp platter and I had to have more! 5 stars!!!!!!!

Hi Andy and Matt I found your pod cast a few months ago and decided to start from the beginning. Listening to you guys from 2017/2018 is like time traveling and is a great time on the way to work and at the gym. Ive also decided to watch along watching shows with you. I’m not sure if the admirals club is still a thing. If so hi to my future self!! At the rate I’m on I should hear this Admiral Club entry in about six months or so. Keep up the good work fellas I’ve never almost dropped weights so many time from laughing.

I found this podcast a few months ago and I instantly fell in love with it. Matt and Andy do a great job of keeping it interesting and fun. I enjoy the long episodes and the shenanigans that always ensue. I’m a long time fan of all things Star Trek and enjoy the recaps and critiques from Matt and Andy. Keep up the good work.

My wife and I discovered TNC a year ago and got all caught up. It’s been fun watching Andy turn from complete podcast novice to queue pro guy and watch Matt turn into a overworked cynical dad. I’m an Admiral!

I sampled several and this was the one that stuck. I laugh until I cry. Andy and Matt’s ‘argreements’ are priceless. I’m constantly making comments or asking questions in my head only to hear Andy speak them aloud seconds later. If you’re looking for a podcast that you can listen to for the rest of your life, look no further. I’m never going to catch up! Live long and prosper. Also, long days and pleasant nights. I am deeply embarrassed of how much I listen to this star trek podcast. And yet somehow I also want merch.

This is the Star Trek Podcast answer to “The Show Where Everything Goes Wrong”. They miss sound cues, they make mistakes, they leave to check who is at the front door in the middle of the show, they lose the ability to see or hear the other streams, they even forget how to produce their own show! “What comes next?” “Is that where this goes?” But listening to this show is worth every second, minute, hour you will devote to it! …And there will be a lot of seconds, minutes, and even hours. It may not be super polished and shiny, but it is a love letter to an amazing franchise. You’ll even find out about unrelated topics like Frank Sinatra, and if Andy has a girlfriend yet… now if you’ll excuse me, the Admirals Club buffet line awaits!

I found the show about six months ago and it’s been a journey. When in realized a few episodes in that I liked the show I checked to make sure they were still going. They are. Into DS9 now. I look at the dates and realized I got to watch their full descent of living through the pandemic. It’s fascinating to hear them talking about a pre Covid world with no cares at all. Not knowing what was coming. Anyway on to trek stuff! I love both of your takes on TNG. Matt does drive me insane with his constant careless spoilers he throws out there. I’m literally road raging over it as I’m driving sometimes. But then you guys screwed it all up anyway by allowing Andy to watch random episodes to prepare for Picard. Disappointing. But it’s still a great show and Im still and chugging along in season six now. Hopefully one day I’ll catch up and maybe hear this review. Things I hated - the early Britney spamming. Things I loved - pretty much everything else.

Hello Andy and Matt. As I write this, I’m about to start I believe is your 73rd episode talking about Star Trek TNG Season 3 Episode 26. i’m an over the road driver both entertainer bus (celeb type tour bus) and a truck driver who drives roughly 500 miles a day. Yes, I spend a lot of it binging this podcast. absolutely love your podcast. You guys are funny, very entertaining, and just two laid back guys having fun. I don’t believe podcasts have to be perfect productions; especially when it’s just two guys enjoying each other’s company, talking about their thoughts on tv show episodes. I do have to point out the way you guys make comments while play show clips remind me of Mystery Science Theater 3000. It is comical to me. Keep up the great work! Side note: as of the date of this review, I saw that Goldbergs are ending. Thanks for all the laughs in that series, my family likes that show.

Of all the podcasts I listen to, this self-professed Best Star Trek Podcast in Existence certainly is one. You don’t need to know details of the content or format. Instead, simply understand that my recommendation carries the weight of ten thousand bars of gold-pressed latinum.
