An epic of miniature proportions! Welcome to Episode 46 of “Reel Chat” – a podcast that guarantees week in, week out – the “Reel world as we know it.”
On this second episode of our “Pixar” retrospective series, host Adam Stolfo is joined as usual by co-host (and animation fan) Brose Avard, regular guest Stuart Wilson, and special guest writer / musician / performer James Hazelden, to look at Pixar’s second feature-length computer generated film – 1998’s “A Bug’s Life.”
After the critically and commercially successful “Toy Story” in 1995 – the film that proved without doubt that high quality computer animation can be produced at full feature-film running time, leading American film animation studio Pixar produced a second animated feature that not only raised the scope, the scale and story-line of the first, but also their stand in the world of animation production.
With Pixar rediscovering the form it’s known for with this year’s “Inside Out“, the “Reel Chat” team delve deep into this film’s placing among the rest of the Pixar catalog, as well as informative and entertaining discussion on it’s quality voice cast, why it was released in direct competition with Dreamworks’ “Antz“, the underwhelming (but serviceable) score of composer Randy Newman, the film’s DVD and Blu-Ray releases, as well as trivia tidbits and factoids such as exactly what is “The Pixar Theory!?”
