I’d like to give 5 stars as Leonard is a National treasure loaded with in depth knowledge but always accessible. His questions are informed and open ended, encouraging guests to expound on their experiences. Things get derailed once Jessie enters the conversation with long winded ruminations that are all about her and all the celebs she’s interacted with. She so into her own thing that she over talked this week’s guest (legendary producer Frank Marshall) multiple times. Let your guest speak!

I had found certain parts of what I had believed to had been this "Maltin on Movies" to had been vulgar (profane), unnecessary, unprofrossional, negative, and detrimental (or certain parts that could had been prevented if only what I had believed to had been this "Maltin on Movies" had involved only one regular host (or only one Maltin; specifically the Leonard one)).

This is what a podcast about movies must be. Don’t go anywhere else. What a blessing! The Woody Allen episode is rare and impeccable. Sublime! Thank you!

Don’t miss the interview with George Stevens Jr. It’s a fascinating history of AFI and Hollywood, he is so articulate, a true gentleman. Strongly suggest Jesse not join the show or stop speaking and take a back seat.

I may not always agree with him (who always agrees with somebody else anyway?), but Leonard Maltin is one of my favorite film critics. His Movie and Video Guide is an invaluable resource for movie fans if only for its sheer scope. But it’s his relationship with his daughter Jesse that really shines here. Sometimes passions run in the family and this is a wonderful example of that phenomenon. The interviews are great, the guests are delightful, and the relationship backing it all up is the best of it all. God bless the house of Maltin!

If you read through the bulk of these reviews, they all say the same thing- it would be better with just Leonard as a solo cast. I was one of those reviewers who’d wish that Jessie would let the guests speak. But- ya gotta commend the gal for taking notes. She’s much better at not interrupting and even her questions and comments are getting better. Critique is tough. Using it and getting better is golden. Way to go, Jessie. I’m upgrading this to 4 stars!

Leonard Maltin is a legend in the film critic area. I started listening to this podcast initially because I used to watch Mr. Maltin on Entertainment Tonight. I respect his opinion. When the show started, the format was interesting: Baron Vaughn and Leonard would select an actor, or a genre, and pick three (I think) movies. Good, bad and a forgotten or lesser-known gem. Great format. Baron left due to time constraints, and the show morphed into an interview show. Great concept. However, the inclusion of Jessie Maltin immediately changed the approach. Jessie is full of energy and is obviously a very devoted child. She is a novice interviewer, and talks more about herself than the guest. I get it: your husband is English, you have an immune issue, and you like music festivals. I want to know about Javier Bardem’s kids, not how you and your mom watch movies. It is not adding anything to the conversation; it is Jessie making the show about Jessie. I just listened to an interview with Topher Grace (I’m a bit behind), and Jessie talked more than her dad, the legend, and almost more than the guest. Inexcusable. And when she does “allow” him to talk, she marginalizes him. “Look at dad talking about pop culture.” He’s a legend. He deserves to be treated better. I understand that they have a close family, but Jessie does not let the game come to her. And, in many instances, she sounds like a “fan-girl,” oohing and ahhhing the guest. Unprofessional. She doesn’t need to be distant and aloof, but there is a mid-ground where she’s not clamoring to Ryan Coogler about how much she wants to be Michael B. Jordan’s best friend. I understand that Leonard is now older, but he is wise and respected. He deserves better than to be a guest star in his own show. With all due respect, and in an effort to not be overly rude, I will say that no one will listen to the Jessie Maltin Talk Show should Leonard retire.

I adored this show until noticing your interview with Woody Allen. He & the world cab chalk his issues up to pure conjecture, but there’s nothing new artistic merit to be gleamed & I find him morally repugnant. You two should know better & at least offers some supplemental material about your reasoning for this. Well enjoy all the same with one less subscriber. Ta.

Loved the early shows with Baron. Too much pointless jabbering now. Let Leonard and the guests actually say something!!

I religiously listened to this podcast when Leonard had his first cohost. Once Jesse came on, I stopped listening. Great interesting guests, but she consistently speaks about herself. I no longer subscribed due to this horrible nepotism. Gave it a try today hoping that Jesse would have been reigned in, but nope. Less than 10 minutes in and once again, it’s the Jesse show. I also think my kids poop ice cream, but realize the rest of the world doesn’t think so. Leonard needs to realize this as well. Don’t think I’ll be giving this podcast another chance, which is a shame

I agree that this show could be great, but isn’t. It’s partly Jesse, but more than that it’s the lack of structure in this “shoot the breeze” format. She’s clearly trying to bring her love and knowledge of movies (and her dad) into the interview, but she doesn’t really add much to the conversation. There are very few podcasts that are successful with this format IMO. And the formula seems to be to pair one famous person with a sidekick or foil and then just yack for an hour with a guest. Leonard Maltin could be more present and could also help his daughter out more since he’s the pro.

Among my favorite actors, ever. Thank you for this installment. I’m fetching “Paris, I Love You” now to watch later. Thoroughly enjoyed this interview. The only disappointment is that it wasn’t longer ... I wanted you to ask her so much more.

I think this is an insightful podcast. There are guest on here where I may not recognize their names at the time of the interview but years later I may recognize the names as they have done more work. In these interviews I learn things that may not be known to general audiences so these can be insightful to learn back stories, films, shows to projects a mainstream audience may not be familiar with.

As so many others have observed, Jessie constantly interrupts the guests — and her father. If she weren’t Leonard’s daughter, she would have been dismissed from the podcast long ago. Leonard also speaks too much, frankly, but at least he’s legit with regard to film history. However, listen for the many instances when Leonard speaks too long, and then Jessie interrupts him — leaving the accomplished guest as a third-person observer.

Ever since I was a kid discovering movies for the first time, Leonard Maltin has been there. I always remember his interviews with George Lucas on the Star Wars VHS release from 1995. This show is a light hearted interview style show where he and his daughter Jessie Maltin sit down with a single celebrity guest and go through their life, films, and anything else they want to talk about. You can tell they're a real family, the love shines through. This is a must listen for anyone that loves Hollywood and movies.

This is a show with amazing guests and wonderful diversity of topics by a professional critic. Leonard is an American staple in the movie industry and his knowledge is terrific. However the show would be much, much better with just Leonard. But I get it, Leonard suffers from the same flaw that most parents have, we can’t see our children’s flaws. So I will continue to listen to a good show that has the potential to be great.

During these uncertain times, it’s nice to have a safe haven to go to. For me, that’s listening to Leonard and Jessie interview a guest on their brilliant podcast. They feel like family. And take it from me, a guy who has lost most of his family due to various illnesses, family is very important. Love you both Leonard and Jessie, and you too Alice! Keep up the great work. The World needs you right now!

Really good line up of guests but... I have to agree with many others here- Jesse is insufferable. Her voice seems louder than anybody else’s. She interrupts and overpowers the guests trying to let us know how hip she is to everyone and everything Hollywood. She inserts her personal and boring stories of knowing something about each guest. She comes off sounding like a desperate date. I would have LOVED to hear what Leonard has to say but Jesse won’t allow it. My suggestion... scan the guest list and if you love them, listen and skip the rest.

I love this show! What sets it apart from other movie podcasts in my mind is the kindness of Mr. Leonard Maltin. It is so refreshing. And he knows EVERYONE by name who has a part in the great films discussed. AND as a TCM junkie growing up his knowledge and love of that platform is always wonderful to hear about. Thanks for all you do.

As many others have said, this isn’t a terrible podcast. However, the style of interviewing isn’t really my cup of tea. Jessie seems like a lovely person and a good daughter who clearly loves both movies and her father. I don’t think she should interject as much as she does. It can be really disruptive to the flow of the guests response and in my opinion comes off as a bit attention-seeking (again, not assuming this is intended by her). I don’t think she should go (don’t see her father replacing her) but I do think LM needs to step in here and change the dynamic a bit so his voice is the primary one heard when the guest is not answering.

This is a fantastic podcast hosted by two people who love cinema. Their passion is contagious and the guest they have on are equally excited to talk about the craft. I can’t believe it took me so long to find this podcast.

I have never written a review but I feel so strongly that this show could be a 5 star podcast save for one thing...Jesse. I’m sure Jesse is a loving daughter and knows much about film and the industry but I want to listen to Leonard tell stories and he and the guest interact. Jesse is a distraction and adds little to the conversation. Every time she speaks the guest and more importantly Leonard is not speaking. Incidentally I didn’t like the old co-host either. Lose Jesse and my 4 star turns into a 5.

Leonard asks insightful and fascinating questions about craft and experience. Unfortunately, if the guest is someone that Jessie admires, she has a tendency to interrupt and monopolize conversation with her own anecdotes and jokes rather than allow the guest to give their perspective and personal stories. So if you are looking for a conversation, this might be the podcast for you, but if you are looking to learn an in depth analysis of the industry through the guests, there are other podcasts that do a better job.

Leonard is a great and expierenced interviewer who lets the guest speak. His young and immature daughter does not. We tune in for the guest, not so much the host. Also stop fawning over the people you interview and saying how great they are and how everything is your favorite all time yada yada The reference to things not being "real" or cartoon is offensive too. Maybe her dad is trying to help her carry on the family business, but she needs to read these reviews.

Must listen infotainment in regards to the film/tv world. Slightly bias, because I was in Leonard’s class once upon a time...at USC. Been a fan since the ‘80s ET days like most of ya.

Could be the movie buffs heaven but his daughter will not SHUT UP!!!! Constant butting in with rambling nonsense about herself and her mom and dad, you can sense LM squirming when she does it relentlessly. She’s a co-host who feels she needs to heard from every 30 seconds with its pertinent to the flow of the conversation or not, and it’s usually not. He alone does a great job and would be better off without her. Some of the earlier ones where she wasn’t on were totally enjoyable. Had to bail out on the podcast she makes it impossible for me to enjoy. IF SHE WASN’T his daughter she certainly wouldn’t be there, she’s horrendous, so LM is willing to compromise the quality of the show drastically to placate his spoiled daughter.

I love the pace of this show and the guests they feature. They are really given the opportunity to share their life's work and the people who influenced them. As the viewer, you're really able to marinate in their stories. Jessie can be a bit much for me and doesn't seem to fit as naturally into to the overall tone of the show.

I’m sure Jessie Maltin is a nice person. But I DO NO WANT TO HEAR HER OPINIONS. I want to hear THE GUEST. The guest does not need PROMPTING they are being INTERVIEWED. They will answer the INTERVIEW QUESTIONS. SMH.

Good podcast with good guests. Jessie could calm down and let someone finish. I like her but she runs over the guest and the entire show at times. Just breathe and listen.

Leonard Maltin is the obvious draw to this podcast, as he’s a well respected legend when it comes to analyzing Hollywood. After following his work for over 30 years, he’s a true delight and seems like a genuinely wonderful person. Because he’s such a nice person and caring parent, he lets his daughter Jessie run wild during these podcast interviews. Jesse doesn’t seem to understand that she isn’t the draw to this podcast. A perfect example of her going overboard is her often telling stories, not about her father, but FOR her father! He’s sitting right next to her, why can’t he tell his own story? I saw one review that blames the criticism of Jesse on sexism. Really? No, try again. The only “ism” that this podcast is guilty of is nepotism.

Come for the incredibly well conducted interviews. Stay for the passion, love, and deep knowledge of film presented by Leonard Maltin.

I gotta say that this is a great show, but Jessie Martin’s expanded presence is detrimental. I think she could pay a supporting role, or a restrained role. But she brings a amateur vibe to the festivities when she isn’t restrained.

I’m actually ashamed on behalf of the lowlifes critiquing Jessie. They couldn’t do a better job and the negativity serves zero purpose. Her passion shines through in the episodes and it’s the perfect juxtaposition to the wise and gracious comments of her legendary father and what makes the show tick. I love it. Don’t you dare change a thing.

Love the show! Jessie is a great co-host. People try to cut her down because she’s a woman with ideas and comments she wants to add to the conversation. She adds a lot to the show. Her excitement and knowledge is a breath of fresh air.

Not to jump on the down-on- Jessie bandwagon as she seems like a very likeable person, so this is meant as constructive criticism and not to be mean. Jessie: Try not to interrupt so often just as a guest starts answering a question, usually knocking them off a train of thought, and it's often just to relate some connection to your own experience of them or your upbringing. I can't count the times where a guest starts to make a point and then never gets there. Secondly, because you're such a superfan, you gush and praise too much, and ANY time a guest starts to self-deprecate or express self-doubt, you cut them off at the pass and tell them how wonderful they are. This usually kills any depth to the interview. Leonard is a good interviewer--leads the guest, reacts, adds a little knowledge, but rarely if ever knocks the interview off course.

I appreciate her passion, but I cannot listen to this show anymore because of Jessie.

I love Leonard and I love the guests! Jessie...........nope. She ruins the podcast for me. At times I think I’m hearing “The Jessie Show”. If not for Jessie, I’d give 5 stars, no question!

But it was much better with Baron Vaughn. Jessie often just repeats what her father said, but slower and more deliberately as if that were adding to the conversation and interrupts the guests way too much. Leonard is delightful and has an encyclopedic knowledge of the entertainment industry. He doesn’t need a cohost.

The first thing I love about Leonard Maltin is that he is one of the few film critics who WANTS to love the movies he's watching. If he doesn't, he will certainly let you know (although I do not understand his hatred for Maximum Overdrive... yes, it's a crappy Stephen King movie, but there are so many more that are SO much worse, and how can you hate a movie with a soundtrack created by AC/DC?). I was very happy that Jessie Maltin replaced the previous co-host, who seemed to base a movie's worth on the amount of melatonin the actors had in their skin. I love Jessie and "Daddy's" back and forth. Makes me think of my relationship with my own children. And the best part of the podcast is that in nearly every episode, they talk about a movie I've never seen, and every one I've watched so far has been fantastic.

I look forward to listening to these two every Friday. They both have such a love of movies that it shows through. They compliment each other so well. Jessie adds some great energy to the interviews and her Dad, Leonard has such extensive knowledge of the movie industry. I also appreciate the variety of guests in their show, as well as the fact that this is a podcast I can listen to with my pre-teen son. I am constantly talking about their show with my family at the dinner table or with friends over coffee. I highly recommend this podcast to all movie lovers out there! As I am reading the other reviews I am honestly shocked that Jessie is disliked so much. She is one of the major reasons that I listen to this podcast. She has great insights and is insanely funny. She also makes this podcast relatable in a way that would be missing with just her father. And the dynamic between the two of them is adorable. She is what makes this podcast great.
