I’ve been listening to this podcast for about two years now and it’s one of my favorite things ever. As someone who gets criticized for being critical of art and media, I definitely relate to both Heather and Mike. I think it’s good to dissect music because it’s a reflection of our culture. There are so many POC, women, and LGBTQ+ folk who have shaped so many genres and created trends, but never get the credit they deserve. I’m glad that some people are willing to share unpopular opinions on beloved bands and artists. Some of these people don’t deserve the accolades and worship they have received. Note: I was so excited when they shouted me out at the end of the will.i.am v.s. twenty one pilots episode! I’m trans and was going by the name Azazel at the time. I was initially confused because I haven’t used that name in almost a year, but I got so giddy when I realized they were talking about me. Brian saying he loved me was so cool. I hope you all remember me! I’m Teddy, you’re biggest Gen-Z fan!!! You have inspired me to work in music criticism as well.

So, this is basically Jukebox Zeroes, except way more politically charged (even some guests seem to notice-Scott in the TMNT ep) and the pitfalls such people fall into. If you can get past that, tho-and not everyone can- it’s perfectly decent, and it is a slightly different POV than JZ. Also, they hate twenty one pilots. That alone is a star off.

This podcast is neither funny nor adds anything of substance to the discussion of music. The entire episode was complaining about the same points over and over with the hosts, specifically Heather (I think), just talking over the other host and guest; if you’re going to invite a guest on, at least give them a chance to speak their opinion instead of trying to invalidate every point they make with your grating impressions and very poorly researched nonsense. I listen to other “bad music” podcasts that are funny, upbeat and enjoyable to listen to-even when it’s about an artist I like- while this is so negative and seems to treat the thing as a miserable experience that they have to slog through to be done with. There was no joy, and it was so harsh I found it hard to finish even a single episode.

I've always been curiously fascinated with "bad" pop culture; be it a cringeworthy song or an abysmal film, and am *so* glad that I stumbled across this podcast. The hosts are ridiculously amusing and truly hilarious - and their dynamic is really the soul of this show, which is ripe with some of the worst albums and songs I've ever had the (dis?)pleasure of hearing. Listening to 'Make It Stop' hasn't failed to make me laugh. The music choices are always entertaining, and the brand of humour is just so up my alley. Love!

The first 20 minutes is practically worthless and is just filled with people talking over each other and laughing. It feels like you are listening to a bunch of popular kids from afar as they just make fun of everything and everyone. I was hoping for an actual critique or some structure. I had high hopes for this show, but it’s hard to even listen to. Others might enjoy listening to people put everyone down, but it’s definitely not for me.

When I first started listening I found this to be quite amusing. The Marky Mark episode is A+ material. Got a few chuckles out that. However, when I got to the Manson episode I couldn't stop cringing. For one, the so-called "goth" they had as a guest was obviously not a goth at all to think that Manson and Nine Inch Nails are goth artists. Neither make goth music. For the hosts to be somewhat music experts or at least knowledgeable about music history to have a music podcast, it was quite surprising that they were not aware that goth is an actual genre of music and not just sad teenagers wearing black and moping around. Surely they know of The Cure, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Bauhaus, Sisters of Mercy, etc.? It was quite ironic because they sang Bela Legosi's Dead at the start of the podcast, only for it to go downhill from there. They kept referring to Manson as goth when he is not. His music certainly is not. Also the Tool epsiode was fairly mean spirited. I am not a fan of the band in any way, shape, or form, but the jokes about the man's mother were really below the belt. It was quite easy to critique the album without making tasteless jokes about the man's deceased mother. Those jokes were unfunny and unnecessary. Also, on the Otown/Aaron Carter episode, someone said "it's rare to see a person of color in a boy band." First off, New Edition, an all black boy band was mentioned at the start of the episode. Secondly, I'm going to assume everyone in that room was white because they seemed to only know of the white boy bands, and were completely unware of the plethora of black boybands from B2K, B5, Guy, Another Bad Creation, Troop, Jodeci, etc. There's even a couple of boy bands with various races like All 4 One and Color Me Badd. A lot of episodes followed the same trend of not quite knowing a lot about the genre they were covering...perhaps do some broader research first.

Honestly, maybe this podcast isn’t that bad, but I am only judging based off of one episode. The only reason I found this podcast and listened to this episode is because it was about my favorite band, Five Iron Frenzy. First of all, the album they chose to talk about was Cheeses of Nazareth, which isn’t an actual album it’s a compilation EP of b-sides, rarities, and in-jokes for the hardcore FIF fans (this fact is acknowledged by the hosts, to be fair). But that’s not what got to me about their “review” of the album. What really bothered me is the fact that they didn’t give an actual reason why the band was bad other than saying they were bad because they are a ska band and ska is ‘objectively bad’ (despite then turning around and defending ska and sayin it’s not bad at all). They then said that what makes FIF even worse is that they are a Christian ska band, as if writing music about their religion is somehow bad. So in other words, according to the hosts of this podcast, Five Iron Frenzy is bad simply because it is bad. The hosts do not understand how to give criticism or support their opinions with facts and therefore they should not be attempting to review music. And no, saying that a Christian band is bad simply because you are an atheist (an actual talking point brought up in this aforementioned episode) does NOT count as criticism.

Good production values. If your favorite Simpsons character is Comic Book Guy, this might be right up your alley. Two people who have never recorded a album like to explain how others who have sold millions of copies are so horrible. It could be okay, but hearing them support the awful 70s film "Rock and Roll High School" and scum punker GG Allin, while tearing other things down seems like a bit of a contradiction. And I felt nails on a chalkboard whenever the guy would say he kind of liked a song and the girl would shame him with repeated "Really? Really?" If talking trash and negative judgmental opinions are for you, then this will be right up your alley.

Some days you just really need to hate laugh and this podcast brings it to you in spades! The music may be bad, but Heather and Mike are so funny that you can’t help but stay for more punishment. Do yourself a favor and turn off the world for an hour and a half and turn on this podcast- you won’t regret it!

Who knew that listening to a podcast about all the music you DON'T want to hear could be so entertaining? Lots of laughs, lots of smart pop culture references... I'm just waiting for them to review former MTV star Jesse Camp's unfortunate glam metal album.
