Half the time I listen to a longform episode, I don’t even recognize the name of the person interviewed. But within 5 min, I’m captivated by their experiences, their writing career, and totally inspired to work harder on my own reporting projects!

I think Ms Chalabi does some great work. I have followed her for several years and I am always impressed. I do wonder though. I did not see any graphics on the massacres that just occurred in Darfur. Arabs killing nearly whole Masalit villages. Not a great interview. I did not see any clever graphics on Israeli toddlers taken out of their beds in their underwear to Gaza, whose parents and grandparents are likely peace activists. No cartoons showing a raped and killed young woman having their bodies spit on and paraded around as a trophy.

I’m a long time listener of Longform. I think the journalism is generally fantastic and while all the hosts are excellent Mac Linsky is especially great- up there with Terry Gross in terms of interviewers. The Mona Chalabi episode was not good and I’m hoping this was an unfortunate misstep of the podcast. It was described that they attempted to do a typical interview but Mona was not being cooperative and instead they redid an episode where she aired her grievances about the Hamas conflict. This episode was a talk show episode that lacked substance, intrigue and any sort of summary of journalistic contributions. What I thought was especially egregious was that at the end of the episode they asked Mona what else she wanted to say where she took the opportunity to list off her grievances of all journalists she thought were Zionist. Absurd. And dangerous. I listened to this podcast a few days ago and wasn’t sure if I wanted to say anything about it. I even contemplated unsubscribing from the podcast. I am still disappointed in the podcast for generating such low quality content so I am registering my thoughts here. I will continue to subscribe to the podcast in hopes this was an unfortunate misstep.

Came here specifically to hear Mona Chalabi ~ it’s such a meaningful, honest conversation and I really really appreciated hearing it.

The hosts are fabulous! These are some of my absolute favorite interviews. They are like Teri Gross. Thanks for making a fabulous show.

They’ve obviously run out of interesting people to interview. For the past year or so it’s like their guest selection has been “I guess this person will do”. They sold their souls to the devil when they stopped the Longform recommendations and partnered with Vox media.

1) Hosts are skilled at asking follow up questions that take their guests ever deeper. 2) No host egos on display; focus is exclusively on the guest, and what he or she has to say.

I love this podcast and look forward to new episodes. I’m frustrated that women writers are featured significantly less than male writers. Sometimes listeners have to wait nearly two months to hear a woman speak on the show. I choose not to listen frequently because I want to hear the perspectives of women. Please diversify! Everyone can be interesting but programming too many men makes makes me loose interest in the show on a whole.

This has remained one of my all-time favorite podcasts for years. The hosts could truly teach a masterclass in asking deft, skillful questions that consistently evoke fascinating, unique insights from interviewees. Every episode is a gem.

I’m always impressed by the host’s kindness and their thoughtfulness in listening to their guest’s answers. Good stuff

There is too much mouth noise and I can’t listen even tho I really want to hear the interviews. Can you use different mics or mix it differently or sit back from the mics? Idk what would help but it’s tough to listen to with all the mouth noise

I always learn something from these interviews and have discovered amazing writers, stories, and books.

What do you get when you combine a first rate journalist, a political hack, and the guy they get their weed from? This podcast. Only worth listening to when the first rate journalist is doing the interviewing.

I don’t know why but I just love it

This podcast is thoughtful. The interviewers sometimes ask difficult questions, questions I would never have thought to ask and go deep. Sometimes this is laugh out loud entertaining, sometimes deeply emotional. 97% of the episodes hit the spot. It is rare that I stop listening to one once I have begun. I cannot recommend this enough. It is a beautiful and worthwhile effort to put this out. Bravo!

The same “wow I envy your working at this large liberal outlet in NYC, so tell me the same tedious details how you get there, please”.

Skip Max’s episodes. His questions are lame and leading. His guests seem uncomfortable. The other hosts are excellent and worth the subscribe.

This show is amazing and has introduced me to some incredible writers while also widening my palette for new faucets of writing. I appreciate the humanity of conversation, the depth and respect for the craft and have repeatedly come back to episodes. Highly recommend!

High quality interviews. Maybe because it’s a journalist interviewing another journalist, but really some impressive Q & A skills.

As a freelance writer, I am always motivated and intrigued by both the big ideas and the in-the-weeds business tidbits shared in these episodes. I am amazed by all the research Max, Evan, and Aaron put into the interviews and how their appreciation of the art, craft, and execution of a writing career shows through.

The laughs on this episode had me for a lifetime Samin’s laughter is infectious in the best way and, if bottled, could bring Peace to the World! I adore her passion for eating Life.

This podcast is fantastic. The addition of Patrice Pike as an interviewer was a genius move.

I absolutely love the interviews. Really insightful stuff and thoughtful questions. HOWEVER, I absolutely hate how it’s three dudes up top just talking. Like why? Why’s it got to be so broy? Don’t we have enough of that vibe? I don’t even know who any of those dudes are like why are they relevant?

I love the show and I especially love the recent episodes from Patrice Peck. Would love to hear her as a regular host! And her interviewees make me wonder what other voices and beats we need to hear from soon.

Among the many media and writing podcasts I listen to, Longform is the best at getting authors to give details about their journey and their writing process, which is something I really value. I’m currently making my way trough all of the archived episodes I missed. It has proven so far to be a gold mine of excellent writing lessons.

All the interviews are so well done. The questions are insightful and the guys clearly know their material. Each interview is unique and lets me see at least a little part of the human person being interviewed. I’m not a writer. I’m a reader and I love Longform.

Writing as a non-writer — thoroughly enjoyable interviews with wide ranging writers and styles delving into fascinating topics that help a non-writer appreciate what demands are placed on people practicing the craft of writing.

I listen to a lot of podcasts and have a huge backlog most of the time, but this always the first one I listen to when it shows up in my feed. The interviewers are incredible — they ask insightful questions and are always incredibly prepared. I’ve found so many great writers thanks to this podcast.

I love hearing about how journalists approach their work and getting a sense of the process behind crafting stories and essays that matter.

After listening to a Longform interview I invariably want to read all of the articles by that journalists. The interviews are always interesting and feel very honest.
