Rider Strong Beware!
Rider Strong wrote a letter of support for a convicted child abuser, Brian Peck. Steer clear of this podcast and do not support these hosts!

Great
Such a great podcast, I hope they keep making new episodes.

Merely Ok
Typical reviews from Middle Aged men of middling success. Julia saves the show for me.

The best show about books
Listening to this show takes me back to my favorite English classes in college with a mix of great humor

These reviews though
Everyone writing reviews like their eighth grade English Teacher is reading this. Fun weird time capsule of a show though! I actually loved Galapagos, but I haven’t read it in like 15 years and I was crazy then.

Ready for More!
I’m a relatively new listener and am having a great time digging into old episodes but this latest episode hit it out of the park for me. Looking at crime from all it’s messy angles with the new format was truly *chef’s kiss*

Love, love, LOVE the new format!
Can’t wait to see where you’ll take us next!

These are my people…
I arrived late, reluctant to find anyone at this party that I would be able to relate to. I figured I would hang out in the back, slowly sip a cocktail and slip out before anyone noticed me… Well…I entered with Lincoln in the Bardo under my arm and once I heard the first go round, I found myself riveted to the discussion, so I subscribed to these wondrous beings and waited for more goodness. Thanks

My Reflections on the Disco—after the 200th
While listening to your 200th episode, I was laughing and shaking my “yes” to pretty much everything you said—including where was Julia during some of those early shows—was her audio off?! :) But, really, I look forward to your show so much because it is a fresh, delightful surprise and I always learn something new—a new book or essay or an idea to ponder long after the show is over. So, I just wanted to say that I beg you to not change a thing. It doesn’t need any freshening up—it does that organically as you grow and it is a gift I look forward to, uh, whenever you post one. Thank you so, so for taking the time and effort to produce this podcast—and for reading “Middlemarch,” by the way—a highlight—especially with Tod’s rough start. And Rider delights with curiosity of all things and Julia’s outlook on life is the best—wish I lived in Connecticut and could experience her theater sometime. Oh, and did I say, please, please please don’t change a thing!

Question!
I absolutely adore your podcast. Would you guys take recommendations? There’s a few books I would love to hear you speak about!
GaiaGirl2193
Fantastic
I love it! There’s something about listening to people talk about books that is really comforting. I only know about this podcast because of Rider talking about it on an interview. I didn’t know about Julia and Tod but all three of you together have great chemistry. I’ve added so many books to my list!

rider strong is a bigot
your semi-regular reminder that rider strong is a smug (oh, so smug), racist New Atheist anti-Muslim bigot. nothing he makes is good! julia seems cool though.

Giving it up
I enjoyed this podcast for a really long time. It’s been great for book recommendations and the convo outside of books is usually interesting. I took a break a few months ago because Todd is really just too much sometimes. I think having differing opinions is really important to a good discussion, and having Todd involved works in that way, but he comes across as very pretentious and rude. He constantly talks over everyone and in the episode I tried listening to today, it was just too overwhelming. There aren’t many good book podcasts so I’m sad to have to give this one up, but the dynamic just doesn’t work for me.

Feel Nothing
Ughh first episode ever listening. All I wanted was to hear an intelligent discussion about a book I just finished reading. But no, eight minutes in & one of the hosts was compulsively boasting about an immature online quarrel between another annoyed listener. So here I am, another person who’s so angry having barely listened to your podcast that I’m taking the time to tell you I’m done listening.

Listening for years
Great book podcast. The trio work really well together. Sure more often than not Rider Strong comes as as an insufferable pretentious dude, but it’s balanced by Todd’s lovable insufferableness and Julia’s loveliness and intelligence.

Surprisingly enjoyable
I really enjoy listening to this. I like that they don’t always agree. It’s fun to hear the differing opinions and see all sides. Readers and writers, you should tune in!

So fun!
Why all the hate for Tod in the reviews? All three hosts bring unique and interesting points of view to the books they review! They have great chemistry and are super entertaining. This has exposed me to so many books that I never would have heard of but end up loving! This podcast is definitely worth your time. I look forward to each new episode!

Terrible
They have very delayed and dragged voices when speaking. Almost painful to listen. It sounds like they are trying to be overly amusing and it’s not.

Perfect for Lit Nerds
I love love love this podcast! I could listen to it all day long and often add every book discussed (even just the ones mentioned in passing!) to my TBR list. My one critique would be a plea to improve the audio quality of the pod. I often find it hard to hear one or more of the hosts—one host’s mic will be quite loud while the others seem to be turned down and it’s hard to find a balanced volume. Thanks for all y’all do! Can’t wait to listen into 2020!

Thank you LD!
(That’s Literary Disco, not Larry David) To avoid sappiness, I’ll just say this podcast not only turned me from a non-reader to a reader, but evoked in me a total love of literature. Julia, Rider, and Tod offer three unique and different perspectives on the things they read and discuss. Listening to their discussions (and commonly, rants) has inspired me to start thinking critically about all art, even the stuff I love. Thank you, LD!

Great Content, Sound Painful
The content is fantastic. My complaint is about the sound. It’s not balanced and I have to turn my volume up and down depending upon who is speaking. Julia sounds like she’s screaming and you can barely hear Ryder in some episodes. It’s distracting enough that I have deleted some episodes in the middle. 😭

So late to this party!
So I just happened upon this podcast. Scrolling through past episodes to pick one to try, had to go with the Xanth episode because 1) I had the HUGEST crush on Will Freidle back in the day, and 2) I REALLY dislike Piers Anthony. I know I’m several years too late to contribute to the discussion, but it’s one of my purposes in life to tell people this one thing about Piers Anthony, so.... You think the Xanth rape trial is disturbing? Try the novel Firefly (which Piers Anthony smartly wrote under another name). It features a 5-yr-old girl re-enacting her own rape in court, by humping an attorney. To orgasm. After which we are apparently expected to feel bad that her rapist was killed in prison. Mix that with Anthony’s letters with Jenny Elf, add a dash of And Eternity and its endless repetition of the phrase “young flesh,” and what you get is a steaming batch of Piers Anthony Shouldn’t Be Allowed Within 100 Yards Of Schools Stew. TL;DR Love the ‘cast, Piers Anthony is a pedo creep.

Love it
I really love this podcast! Julia is my absolute fave! Sometimes the guys talk over her which is annoying but they’ve been more mindful of that recently. And I enjoy Todd he’s like that annoying friend who secretly is your favorite. But love the podcast really fun overall.

Hit or miss
This is hit or miss for me. Sometimes I thoroughly enjoy episodes and sometimes I don’t. I think Tod tries a little to hard and can get obnoxious but I really like Rider and Julia for the most part and there can be some really good discussions. I really enjoyed the Columbine episodes very good discussions.

Julia is right
This podcast is a lot of fun. Julia is right about Ferrante.

A Smug Literary Podcast? Shocking!
Speaking as someone who has read the books you are “supposed” to read I sort of resent Tod Goldberg’s insistence upon berating listeners and literally claiming that people who don’t read like him or anticipate plot developments as quickly as he does are “horrible readers.” I’m condescended to enough without my podcasts doing it.

Fun AND Intelligent
I listen to many bookish podcasts and Literary Disco is one I have enjoyed very much. It is the perfect combination.... Kind of like pineapple on a pizza....LOVE

So entertaining
I love this podcast so much. The three co hosts have such great chemistry together. I always learn about a new book I want to read, even if it’s just a passing reference. I love that they cover high brow lit to everything in between. This podcast keeps me company on my commute to work. 💖

This is the only podcast that's ever kept my interest more than a couple episodes. I love the book selection and often read books after hearing about them here. I'm looking forward to the recently promised more regularly recorded future episodes.

Organized, Funny, Insightful
They are entertaining, well organized, and insightful. They analyze books in an intellectual but fun way and seem very comfortable as broadcasters.

Potential - but dragged down by pretension
A podcast that is easy and fun, like sitting down with friends to discuss a book we all just read. Maybe it’s the format of web hangouts and you can’t just jump into the convo in an organic way, but I think the guys don’t let Julia speak enough. (I hate saying “let”) Tod is funny but interrupts a lot. Rider likes to hear himself talk, he’s pretentious, and drags this podcast down. I think I just listened to my last episode.

In my top 5
I’m an avid podcast listener and serious reader. Great podcast. Always funny, insightful, and interesting. I have become such a fan of all 3 and wish they had more time to read and record. But I’ll take what I can get. I’ve been looking for a podcast about books and reading for a long time. There are a few that are ok, but this one is great.

Thumbs Up
I hadn’t listened to this for a few months, and when I did today I remembered how great it is! The three hosts are fun together, and I really appreciate the book discussions—insightful, honest, always a good point I hadn’t considered.

Yuck no
The kind of pompous, hypocritical book snobs who make Middle America hate people who like books. Self-congratulatory, but without much actual insight or depth. The types who fall into raptures over what they’ve been told are Important Books, while looking down on everything they’ve been told is Not Cool. This is why people hate hipsters.

A Terrific Trio
Julia, Rider, and Tod are the perfect combination of funny, smart, self-aware, and playfully ridiculous. Even if they weren’t talking about books I’d still listen. They’ve also introduced me to a number of books I would not have normally picked up and have helped me expand my literary knowledge and interests.

Best literary podcast around
Tod is hysterical and I love Julia’s dark taste in books. Would give the podcast five stars if I didn’t have to listen to Rider pontificate. He reminds me of a liberal professor who gets lost in the brilliance of his own thoughts while thumping you in the chest with his pipe. But one person in three is bound to irritate you. Highly recommend this podcast. Just might have to use the fast forward occasionally.

I hope I know that Rider has read the secret history
I’ve been listening for a couple years and I consistently love every single episode. I really wish to God they would bring back poet voice.

Tod brings this down
This would be one of my favs, except for Tod. He’s way too loud (and both he and Rider talk all over poor Julia). If you like two people talking about books and one person constantly interrupting with trying-too-hard sex and/or poop jokes this will be for you :( I loved the episode with Will. He was actually funny. Can you replace Tod with Will? Please get rid of Tod. I know you won’t, but please?

Why wasn’t I subscriber sooner?!
A long time ago, I had heard a rumor that Rider Strong co-hosted a podcast all about books. I finally came to my senses after I heard him on Anne Bogel’s podcast. It may seem strange but after hearing Rider’s strong distaste for “A Fault in Our Stars” and the fact that it matched up with my own made me rush to find Literary Disco and subscribe. Since then I have listened to most of the episodes and I can’t get enough. I love the informal “living room intimacy” and the no holds bar honesty.

Wanted to like it...
I really wanted to like this podcast. I went in expecting this to be a funny, thoughtful discussion, instead, it is rants reminiscent of the most obnoxious people from my grad classes. The most laughable moment came when one of the hosts kept repeating "it's just bad writing" over and over. His inability to find a more articulate way of communicating the problems he found with the text was painful. I understand criticism, but long, incoherent rants that lack substance are not worth my time.
