I used to love listening to the podcast as it was often theology driven. Since about 2 years ago the views I hear seem to be the same views I can hear if I listen to MSNBC or CNNs view on the Bible for the most part. The language used by the hosts and the guests is often very much cultures view of Christianity. It just seems a little too convenient to always trash evangelicals and never discuss the issues mainline denominations face. If they ever say a bad word it’s about evangelicals and never against any other viewpoint and it grows tiring to hear partisan views. I used to feel challenged by the podcast not it’s just another form of the same noise I hear from most other media outlets. Sadly, one do the frequent things they say is how bad evangelicals are for their beliefs and one reason is because “evangelicals are too critical of opposing views” and it feels like the pot calling the kettle if you know what I mean. I just had to finally unsubscribe and write this review after listening to about 80% of the episodes as I went back and listened from the beginning episodes available. I’d recommend the older ones but anything post 2019 feels like it’s talking points for a liberal theology with no critique of a left wing view and consistent critique of a right wing view. More balance is needed in my opinion.

Terrible podcast

There are amazing conversations/discussions in this podcast. However there was an episode in which they interviewed a pastor which touched on race and explained that you MUST have a diverse congregation. I disagree completely: the congregation is there to worship the same God. It doesn’t matter and shouldn’t matter what color or nationality they are nor should you make sure and go out of your way to make sure that there are a certain percentage of any race or nationality. He also touched on the idea that America was founded on a slavery ideal. Everyone is granted the freedom to believe in what they wish, however I don’t believe these kinds of takes should be part of an informational and religious podcast such as this.

More people & podcasts are talking these days about the things Jesus taught (in the 4 gospels), but there are a few of his teachings that almost never get serious coverage. Several references (EXCLUDING the “rich young ruler”) are made in Luke about selling all of one’s possessions & giving to the poor and then this teaching is shown to be taken seriously by the time we get to the book of Acts (end of chapters 2 & 4). Another powerful & often neglected paradigm-changing (IF taken at face value) teaching of Jesus is found in Mt. 6:24; Lk. 16:13-14). This has been called the “Two Masters teaching”, one being God/Love and the other/opposite one being money. Take a leap of faith and dive deep into these teachings! ✌🏼

Throwing John Eldredge under the wheels of the bus was a poor example of being Christian and “bush league” at best.

Scott McNight and his guests bring clarity to the chaos of contemporary Christian theology in the West. They also share practical tools for being apprenticed to Jesus. I know of no other Christian podcast that combines such depth of scholarship with such practicality and clarity for the average listener. Bravo!

I would listening to the podcast MORE if the audio quality was better. Its so hard to hear Scott and some of the other guests that it makes listening tedious. Five stars when the audio gets worked out!

Love this podcast. I’ve learned so much from Scot. I found myself excited every morning to listen to the newest episode.

I am a huge fan of Scot McKnight. His insight is amazing and the grace in which he teaches is rare for a scholar of his level. My one ask of Chaz, please figure out a way to fix the audio. Some episodes you can barely understand Scot. Thanks a lot guys, for all that you do.

This is one of my favorite podcasts and I rarely miss an episode. New thinking, new scholarship, and new approaches to understanding the big questions of the Bible.

I have absolutely loved this podcast as one on my regular listening list. I’ve enjoyed all the topics, particularly the Pastor Paul series! Chaz asks great questions. The only thing I’d recommend is better quality on Scot’s mic— or at least on par with Chaz’s mic which sounds much better. Thanks for offering your teaching to the world!

Content is great, but the production of the actual podcast is a bit poor, some episodes worse than others. For whatever reason, the mic that Scot uses is just terrible. It can be very hard to understand what he's saying at times. Please please please fix this, as I enjoy the content very much but struggle to understand the podcast.

Love the content but the different volumes between Chaz’s voice and Scot’s voice is almost unbearable. I have to repeatedly turn up the volume on Chaz only to be blasted in Scot’s response

I’ve been listening to y’all for the past month or two and I’ve enjoyed every bit of it. God’s blessed me with Scot’s willingness to bring the listeners into scholarly arguments without fully giving us biases so that we can determine which side we desire to take. Thank y’all so much!

Any chance of getting the 2012 (I think it was) lectures here in podcast form?

After listening To a handful of episodes, I think this podcast is primarily an ad for Northern Seminary with some good teaching by one of its faculty. Most episodes are good, but the second episode on feminism and more recent ones on women leading in the church were frustrating. Responding to 1 Tim 2:12 with “don’t have time for that, buy my book” seems like a dodge by a prof who gets paid in part by teaching women who enroll in his classes and institution.

I just started listening to this podcast but I have already been blessed by it! Very accessible and helpful! Thank you for producing this podcast! I am learning a lot and I find the conversations very relevant.

As a podcast nerd, I listen to many different podcasts. I really enjoy Kingdom Roots! Great content and great interviews. Some podcasts have a good episode and then the next is only just ok. KR provides consistent content. My background is Catholic/Lutheran/Southern Baptist/non-denomination. KR gives me an insight into different traditions. I love this. It makes me want to look at Northern Seminary for doctorate work. Highly recommended!

In this period of reconstruction, I have come to appreciate the work Scott has worked on for so long. Maybe it's his Baptist upbringing that sparks familiarity. Also, Chaz has been a huge encouragement in this walk!! I tell all my family and friends about this show... And finding on Christmas was such a gift.

I’m new to Scot McKnight, and I like what I hear. I discovered several of his books were on my wishlist, so thought I might look into him. They say you know you’re dealing with a genius when they can take academic material and bring it down to the layman level. McKnight does that with the NPP. Thank you! Scot is humble and wise with excellent insight on biblical history and theological principles. Scot is a great teacher and this podcast makes me feel like I’m sitting in class with him. Anyone seeking wisdom should listen to his podcast.

Scot's perspectives are always very interesting and thought provoking.

I'm a fan of Dr. McNight's books and have been contemplating seminary- this podcast gives me great insight into what seminary is like and the application of what the students are learning. I love to hear the context of scripture and how it is brought forward and explained for today. I find the episodes approachable and yet theologically deep-- and I love that everyone has a good sense of humor. 😉

Of all the podcasts I subscribe to, this is by far my favorite. Much of what Scot covers resonates with me personally as well as has broad implications. One example: the "Jesus and the Table" episode brings to light the importance of hospitality, not only within Christian communities, but Scot lays out how Jesus provided an example of bringing in those who are "outside" of our normal Christian circles. Again, this is very powerful teaching, and I look forward to more episodes every week.

I appreciate the connection between theology and application in the church.

Scot McKnight has for years run one of the most interesting and important blogs in Christianity reflecting on new books, stories, and news. At the same time, Scot has been writing New Testament scholarship, innovative theological work, and popular books. Here Scot reflects on various topics in an interview format. His intuition and judgment are solid. This is a great glimpse into the Christian college or seminary classroom. Enjoy.
