Historically inaccurate
This podcast is heavily biased, and feels like purposeful PR for the figures discussed. In episode 1 Host credits Andreesen with creating the VC blueprint that had been in play in Silicon Valley for about 50 years by the time Andreesen came along. In episode 2 the host credits James Clark as being "prescient regarding the internet", but he cites a quote from Clark that is rehashing a Marshall McLuhan quote from 30+ years prior. All told, there is probably good info in here because there are a lot of episodes. But it doesn't seem anywhere close to honest or accurate, it feels like someone starts with the intent of creating a favorable depiction of Silicon Valley people who are obsessed with self-mythologizing💁🏻‍♂️

How the internet happened!!!
I read your book, which pointed me in the direction of this podcast. Outstanding book, thrilling!!! This is definitely a geek-friendly podcast. Thanks for this thrilling coming of age tale about the technology that literally runs our lives nowadays! Yahoo chat rooms, web crawler, Infoseek, lycos, pine mail, the first pentium PC, dial up modem, Netscape Navigator (oh how angry I was when it was no longer available) internet explorer (vomit), Java applets, the horrible ad banners, the awe of dreaming about a future of shared knowledge! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!!!

Sweet Spot
If you happen to be an amateur geek who, like me, is also a history buff, the Internet History Podcast absolutely hits the sweet spot. Luckily, I have just started listening since reading Brian McCullough’s fascinating and entertaining recent book. That means I have several years of past episodes to catch up on. Each of the dozen or so I have listened to has been fun, captivating and incredibly informative. I am looking forward to many hours of enjoying Brian and his amazing guests.

Phenomenal depth and incredibly interesting
Brian has done an outstanding job cobbling together a cohesive story of how the internet happened from the initial Cambrian explosion to the bombed out ashes of the bust to present day phenomena like the iPhone. Highly recommend.

The best trip down memory lane EVER
Like Brian McCullough, I lived through this time. While I never had the courage (or the connections) to join a start-up, I remember all of this. I taught, for a couple of years, at a local community college and, as part of my curriculum, I had students watch the BBC series on the history of computing (out of print) and the Robert X. Cringely mini-series Triump of the Nerds and the follow-up (not written by him) Nerds 2.0.1. This podcast (and the related book) blow that content out of the water. Someday, when I go back to teaching, even if the subject is not the Internet or computing, this is going to be required reading/listening. It is amazing. A-maz-ing!

deflating the hype
Maggie Mahar's trenchant analysis in episode 67 contextualizing the dot-com craze as just one dislocated leg in Wall Street's decades-long march toward the stampede of a destructive bull market that nearly shattered the 1st world's wheels of commerce asunder in 2008 was the best call-out and take-down of the East Coast media bubble's self-serving complicity in it, and the tragic consequences of technology's democratization of capital management threatening with an almost lynch mob mentality the reputation of any media personality who didn't play along, that I have ever encountered, and the best episode of this podcast by far IMO (I've listened to nearly all of them) so I had to write this review specifically recommending it!

How did the web start and grow to what it is today? Curious? Listen to this podcast now
I love this podcast. I think I like the history summary episodes the best but many of the interviews are great too. The internet is 20+ years old now. Those that don’t know their history are doomed to repeat it. And I am not talking about your internet search history.

Great interviews terrible sound mixing
Really great interviews with interesting people, but the sound mixing is terrible. He should invest in a better mixer to equalize the volume through the podcast.

Great listening
Really enjoying the tangents and more obscure players he covers while working through the steps that brought us to the modern internet

Very interesting and educational
This is a fantastic free, effective tool that can be used to help one understand the history and specific details of how the internet grew into what it is now. It dives super deep into the innovations of multiple key companies that helped to both develop the way that the web interacts and serves the user, and also encourage the now global utilization of the internet. As a 17 year old, it has made me come to appreciate the dedication of all the collaborators that built what my life is now essentially based around. I would 100% recommend this podcast, and I genuinely believe that the information it has to offer is essential to understanding and appreciating the technology that we, as a global population, now take for granted.

I never miss a single episode
This podcast has helped me so much in understanding some of what’s going on now by looking back at the genesis of some of today’s technologies. Hmmm I guess that’s the value of history in general!

Nostalgia
This podcast has been the highlight of my day, for the past couple of weeks. I listen to it on my commute to and from work, or while doing work around the house. Brian ask great questions, and provides mounds of information from companies, projects, and guest who helped shape the world of communications to what it has become today.

Amaizing Detail
I've just recently found my way to Brian's podcast and it has become an essential part of my daily commute. While I knew the highlights of the history of the Internet era, I knew little of the details. This podcast fills in the blanks and really has help me to better understand how all of this came about.

Outstanding Podcast!
The IHP is a recent find of mine that I've been binging through for the last month or so. As someone who grew up in this area of the Internet taking over I love hearing details about how it all happened (since I was a little too young to really understand it at the time). Very detailed analysis and incredibly interesting interviews with people who experienced the internet revolution first hand. Highly recommended for technophiles, history buffs, or anyone who just likes a good story!

Invaluable resource
Having been a kid during the Leon final internet boom, I am thrilled to hear the history of the beginnings of the movement that so shapes our world today. Thank you Brian for making this!

Great, informative podcast
Well worth the time. I would prefer more history and less interviews, but all in all it's wonderful.

Fantastic!
The Internet boom was an exciting time, and this podcast takes us back there in depth. The mixture of historical chapters (narrated by Brian solely) and interviews (Brian interviewing someone in the action from that time) gives some refreshing variety. Sufficient depth but seems like non-techies could still enjoy this.

I love Internet History Podcast
I love the Internet History Podcast. It is, hands down, the best podcast to fall asleep to. I used to use CppCast to fall asleep but IHP is so much better--the episodes flow really well and rarely does the host fill airtime with banal personal observations. I think I've run out of episodes to listen to that actually feature companies or people I have heard of, but the ones that feature nobodies are equally monotonous and work just fine to fall asleep to. Thanks, IHP! Keep up the great show.

Super impressive!
Just discovered while listening to episode #100. Since I know quite a lot about Gary kildall I was surprised to find out how accurate and extensive Brian's research was. Can't wait to binge listen the rest of the episodes. (Jason Calacanis episode was hilarious🤣...he is so delusional that it's actually cute.) ZX, Copenhagen, DK +++++
