Excellent!!!
Fell into this podcast and I’m so grateful for it! I appreciate the straightforward manner, streamlined facts and learning things I wasn’t taught in a classroom or in Trivial Pursuit!

Too fast!
The tempo is far to fast to enjoy.. too bad as the stories look interesting....

(+): concise, transcript included (-): stories are too short
I love how you include the transcript below the episodes!

Entertaining and educational
Host Edward T. O'Donnell brings us fabulous issues, books, and speakers on American History. His sense of humor is greatly appreciated. We've had many family discussions and connected to many books we might otherwise have overlooked. Thank you!

Simply the Best
A professor at Holy Cross College reads novels by various historical writers, provides a short introduction for context, and delivers an excellent interview with insightful questions that dig to the heart of each topic. Edward T. O’Donnell is my go-to podcast for United States History. I’ve enjoyed his work through long drives, long hours at a summer job, and as a means of lesson planning. I began listening as a student teacher of Social Studies, and now as I am in my first year of teaching, his work proves to be a useful classroom tool, both to educate my students and myself. I find that his approachable podcasts are useful for any age or learning level. In the Past Lane is, with no question, my favorite history podcast. I highly recommend.

History and Why It Matters Today
It would be one of the best US History Podcasts out there if O'Donnell never related the past to the present. But, he always relates events in the US past that are help explain today. He does this in a well sourced and fun way. He often has great guests. He gets each show done in a very reasonable amount of time (less than 45 min's typically). Top top top US History Podcast.

What I’ve been looking for
An excellent podcast. Well produced. None of that annoying podcast chit chat. Straight to content. Pit stop is a good quick fix between regular episodes. Thanks!

Mind-expanding
In the Past Lane is one of the best history podcasts out there. I was a student of Prof. O’Donnell in college, and he is as good a teacher as he is a podcaster! These fascinating historical topics and top-notch guest historians shatter myths and dispel ignorance. Can’t recommend it enough!

Informative, Well-Produced, Well-Curated Information on US History
The guests are good. The show notes have led me to excellent books. Each episode is well-produced. No hmms, spaces, filler.

Great resource
Enjoyable way of learning about new history books. Other episodes like the pit stops and longer dives into topics are always very interesting.

So Informative and Fun!
In The Past Lane is an excellent source of information! It looks at the traditional historical narrative in different ways. It gives insight into varying perspectives of history and dives in to the realms of history outside the textbook. It’s a great resource for any historian, who loves history, or who wants to know more about history! There is something for everyone.

Treasure hidden in the holes in my formal education
My history courses were focused on the great men, great events of history. This was back in the Stone Age, before social history or black history/ black studies were staples of higher ed. I love these podcasts, which fill in some of those holes in my knowledge of American history. I have a friend who is a historian. He says he went into history because he loved stories. I had never understood history like that; listening to these podcasts, I find it makes much more sense..

Color of Law Interview
This was a great summary of The Color of Law for anyone interested in reading about this fascinating and horrifying history.

Excellent Pod
Just discovered this one. Amazing interviews with incredible experts on a range of historic topics, usually with a civil rights bend. Often you don’t just learn the history of an event or person but how its subsequent telling as a historical narrative reflects the attitudes of the people of different eras. It’s not just a study of historical events but a study of how we remember those events and what that says about us. Unadulterated fascinating conversation. Totally Bingeworthy :)

History explained
I was introduced to O’Donnell at one day university. His presentation was clear, insightful and interesting. I wanted more so I subscribed to this podcast. I have listened to 8 or 10 and all have been excellent. I listen while I walk and frequently need to extend my walk so I can complete a second episode. Thanks Ed for a job well done.

The Weeping Time
This is yet another enlightening podcast of an event previously unknown to me. The interview with the authors was especially informative as she offered detailed and poignant responses to Prof. O’Donnell’s perceptive questions. To make the connection to today’s race relations was both important and especially relevant. Thank you, Prof.

Great podcast
Prof ODonnell does a great job of illuminating both well-known and more obscure historical episodes in an entertaining way. The only thing that holds me back from rating 5 stars is his decidedly liberal take on many issues. Would prefer if he was more balanced. Overall great job.

Excellent content well presented
This podcast covers interesting historical subjects in depth, including authoritative interviews. The material is well organized and clearly explained. In addition, the podcast itself is very well produced: the clarity is good and there's even tasteful music. Excellent stuff!

Illuminating
This is my favorite podcast to listen to. It’s consistently illuminating, has a wide variety of content matter and approaches, and features a professor who is consistently enthusiastic and informed. Since I listen to all of them, I’m going to become a paying customer. Bravo!

Objective and engaging history that is objective.
Great episode (Gilded Age, pt2) ! It is ironic that corporations were created for the public good but are now are almost a pejorative by-word. This type of corporate welfare was what John Quincy Adams as a lapsed Federalist proto-Whig envisioned for the country. Big federal improvements in lock-step with business. But the chaos of the Jacksonian upstart Democrats nipped that right in the bud.

Great listen
I just discovered this podcast and it's wonderful. At under an hour, it's the perfect length and I always learn something new. Glad I found it!

Wow
I’d just like to say this is a great podcast except the overwhelming progressive tones ok like many progressives you fail to actually research things about libertarianism before you bash it first libertarianism is not anarchy again libertarianism is not anarchy!!!!!!!!!! Libertarians believe in the rule of law we believe in civil society and also protection of civil liberties libertarianism is pretty simple a citizen of the u.s. should be able to do whatever you want AS LONG AS YOU DO NOT DO NOT IN ANY WAY VIOLATE THE RIGHTS OF ANYONE ELSE!!!! That is not anarchy that is very different so we of course do not believe in slavery, crony capitalism, child molestation, theft, murder, correct punctuation(lol),etc etc. We actually believe in what Jefferson said the government that governs least governs best. We do not like this new nanny state which every college needs a safe space and lemonade stands need to file for a beverage license and a tax I d like in New York! So please next time you want to bash a political group (that actually has been around a lot longer than the progressives and used to be called liberals until the progressives running away from there own eugenics driven failures stole the name) please do yourself and the audience a favor and I don’t know maybe actually look into the facts a little!!!!

Thank you...
I’m so caught up in the daily madness of political, and pop, culture that I sometimes forget how our history impacts and influences today’s reality! This podcast looks to the past to help me understand the present, and anticipate the future. It’s informative and enjoyable! As a podcast junkie I’m thankful that this is now a part of my journey to ‘wokeness’!

History by Enthusiasts for Enthusiasts.
The podcast takes a single subject and often through an interview with an authority/author wrings as much info and perspective out of it as humanly possible. It leaves wanting more, but doesn't leave you high and dry. The interviewee usually has written a good book to continue your delving into the subject. The host is erudite without being pedantic. His love of history will rub off on the listener. The approximate half hour pod time is just about right. It is time well spent.

In The Past Lane
I have always been fascinated by history, but could never remember isolated dates. Edward O’Donnell brings history to life with his telling of important times in American history and how it affects us today. I especially liked the one about Bobby Kennedy. Living through those times and expecting to vote for Bobby for the first election of my life, I was horrified and very emotional and I missed so much of what was going on. Learning about that era now is so important. Thank you for this podcast and all the others I look forward to hearing.

Got me hooked on history!
Love this podcast. The first time in my life that I am truly interested in history. The historian-at-large, ETO, has a great gift for synthesizing and explaining complex issues, all the while, interspersing it with his quirky humor. Give it at least 3 episodes and you should be hooked.

Solid podcast
While more for the left leaning audience, the podcast can be enjoyed by anyone that is interested in important stories and people in American history. Also love the interviews.

Great
Really fantastic podcast with a lot of great historical info. Unfortunately some of the audio is over edited leading to constantly cutting off the end of sentences and awkward audio transitions between speakers or sentences.

Making history accessible
Ed helps his listeners understand history and why it is important. His story on the history of Prohibition makes it clear to me why our current drug policies are not working.
