Come back!
I miss this podcast, but I seem to be at odds with most others who take issue. I love Dan and wouldn’t listen to the podcast without him. Amanda is the annoying one (at times), to me. Either way. I’d take both of them, if it would just come back, but more like the old style. I loved when they would just touch on interesting or funny food news, and banter - an occasional interview here and there. Miss the podcast, regardless. For sure.

I really miss this podcast - please come back!

Where did this podcast go?
It was one of my favorites and it’s been gone more than a year. Definitely look forward to it coming back.

3 Stars for Amanda. Negative 2 for Daniel.
I love this podcast but often the flow of dialog gets disrupted by Daniel’s condescending tone and sarcastic remarks. I’m all for the truth but he has no empathy nor any sympathy towards the hospitality people in the real world. Maybe he is too far removed from what people go through daily. I say all this as a hospitality veteran of 32 years. And I want this podcast to continue and serve as an informative source to many.

Digestible
Been listening since it was the upsell. I particularly have enjoyed watching Daniel fall off the vegetarian train. I think a lot of recent reviews take the hosts too seriously (aka take themselves too seriously?). There’s a thing called dry humor. Especially enjoyed the Eric Adams episode - would love more content like that. How are restaurants looking at a changing future with helping the community and staying environmentally sustainable? I also appreciated the energy back in July where they were examining white privilege in the food industry - would be good for some follow up content on that. Show some love! The hosts have good banter and it’s always fun to listen in.

Yikes
The flippant laughing discussing the abuse committed by Jensen Karp (cinnamon toast crunch story) adds to a laundry list of things that slowly and then very quickly ruin this podcast for me. Goodbye!

Ruined by entitled elite leftist nonsense
I used to like this podcast. I’m a foodie and understand that it takes privilege to be able to dine out and experience the vastness of cuisine. I can’t stand the pandemic commentary from the hosts. They can stay at home and get paid while suggesting that local businesses remain closed because the government can’t pay for all of their wages. Typical liberal fantasies where if it’s a problem, you are owed money from the government while producing no value. Their rhetoric is disgusting and shameful to the hardworking restaurant owners and their workers who are struggling due to states that locked down and force unscientifically backed rules and restrictions. Do better than espouse your privileged fantasies and support businesses and the people to make decisions for themselves.

Barely Digestible
This podcast has its moments where it is funny, insightful, and even accessible for those who aren’t super into food or are just starting to dip their toes into the world of food commentary and entertainment. However, those moments are far and few in between. The hosts often clash and provide little to no further discussion beyond what they present, and the scope in which they discuss various food topics is limited and narrow, with Daniel Geneen often butting in or negating Amanda Kludt’s perspective. I’ve been trying to stomach this podcast since the start of the pandemic, but the end result is listening to 40 minutes of barely digestible content that makes me wish I had looked elsewhere.

Wanted to love this...
Wanted to love this because of the content and topics covered, but after listening to a few of the most recent episodes I couldn’t stick with it. To echo quite a few other reviews . . . I can’t take that much of Daniel. Find a replacement and then perhaps I’ll be back. Amusing to hear his co-host shade him for being on board the Yang for Mayor train though . . . one star added for that.

Ads are jarring
The new format of ads is choppy, jarring and unpolished. In today’s episode, a Starbucks add was dropped into the middle of a sentence being spoken by one of the hosts. Besides the fact that I hate ads on podcasts not spoken/presented by the hosts, this was so corporate and slick and disrupted the actual podcast. Ridiculous and if this is how it will be presented moving forward I will not be interested in continuing to listen or support.

Often Grating, Sometimes Enjoyable
I want to love this show every week but it’s often difficult. I love the political angle because food is inherently political - the interview with NYC mayoral candidate Eric Adams was excellent and renewed my interest in the show. What propels me to turn the show off is the grating and out of touch/cold takes from Daniel. His energy has pretty obviously shifted recently, he’s far more subdued but that feels disingenuous and low energy. I enjoy Amanda but I think her perspective is limited and narrow also - generally makes the show feel very out of touch. I love Eater because I think the food journalism is strong and to be honest I do love unnecessarily academic and sometimes elitist takes. But this show is going the way of other Vox Media content - The Weeds is unlistenable and unfortunately Eater’s digest can be too. As a note, I do not think the show uses its platform to speak to food racism and other political aspects of the food world that are systemically racist. And i think that has a lot to do with the limited and white perspectives of the cohosts. For example: Cheering on Anna Kournikova? With no mention of her blatant and unchecked history of racism? Are you not embarrassed? I hope some of these reviews help shape the direction of the show but some are a too personal to take seriously as a review of the content.

Obnoxious Hosts
I really wanted to like this podcast since Eater does have good pieces and insights into the industry, but these hosts are insufferable.
Law Loved
Arrogant and Pretentious
I used to really like this podcast. Daniel is hard to listen to at this point. Very full of himself and he acts superior to Amanda and she seems to take it. Both of them also seem entitled and out of touch with the current state of restaurants. Too bad. I love the Eater emails.

Like, like, like...
Almost every other word from Amanda is LIKE. This is a crutch that’s just become “like” annoying! Daniel is immature and prone to whining. I’ve had enough.

Miss this podcast. Sorry that ADAM shot himself in the foot I vote
For Carla Lalli Music as his replacement!

Cringe
On a recent episode Amanda referred to Whole Foods as a bargain grocery store where everything is “so cheap” ummm…OK. It’s very clear that the hosts are not living in the same world as the rest of us. Their elitist attitudes finally led me to unsubscribe.

Not a fan of the F-Bomb!
I like the podcast generally, but I cringe when Daniel drops the occasional F-bomb. I find it inappropriate and unnecessary.

Finally unsubscribing
Daniel is too obnoxious for me to listen anymore. If I wanted to hear someone whine about not buying lab grown diamonds... well, I don’t. The conversation is so wildly out of touch with what we are living through.

Get Rid of Daniel
Listening to Daniel is like listening to that annoying, argumentative, immature coworker that you want to avoid cause he always wants to get the last word. He makes me cringe.

Become Dull
Kind of lost me recently. Last episode was soooo dull. Hosts seem flat and appear to of lost interest. Even in the current situation there’s some better material out there than what Eater has been putting out.

Miss the old hosts
I really miss Helen and Greg. They were much more enjoyable to listen to and fun!

Love them
I love Daniel and Amanda! I wish this show was twice a week but there’s not enough food news for that. I’d love to hear them do a political show❤️(sadistic I know. Idc!)

COVID MASKS compared to CUTLERY?
Sir, your comparison of wearing masks to using cutlery was so ridiculous that your co-host had no words. Wearing a mask is the only preventative measure, proved by science, to help, prevent the spread of germs. Before you start to rationalize and defend your uninformed commentary, try this...next surgery you or a family member undergoes, ask the surgeon to NOT WEAR A MASK OR PPE or better yet, ask for the Non-sterilized equipment, tools, etc.

Love the podcast, can’t stand the male host.
I love this podcast, but Daniel is argumentative, condescending, and often comes off as a know-it-all. I’m sure he’s a fine person, but I do not feel any real camaraderie or positive dynamic between the hosts. He is unnecessarily opinionated to the point that his views often come off as put-downs with a strong air of superiority. Sorry, he’s just very unlikable at least on this podcast and it makes it less enjoyable to listen to.

Tired
Love the parts of the podcast about restaurants, chefs, food, etc... Tired of your political viewpoints and your assumption that everyone involved in all aspects of the food industry, and your listeners, share the same viewpoints.
UrbanKatGirl
Out of touch
As a restaurant owner, it’s tiresome listening to large restaurant group mouthpieces put down smaller restaurants in smaller or rural locales by basically saying we’re doing it all wrong because our margins are so slim. We don’t have investors. It’s our own blood, sweat and tears as well as our own money. The competition is fierce for a limited number of consumers. I have owned my pizza restaurant for 36 years in a town of 7000 people with 4 national chains competing against me. I’ve managed to hold my own and make a decent living. It’s insulting to hear Alinea say I’m “doing it all wrong”.

Love the Podcast
Daniel— Shark vacuums are as good as or better (definitely more functionality) than Dyson for like half the price. I think they would have better masks. Dyson is so overrated!! Don’t buy into the hype. Thank you!

Time for a change
I’ve listened to podcasts for a decade and listened to this podcast since Helen Rosner was on. During all that time I have NEVER written a review. But I can’t avoid it anymore. I hope your team members are reading all of these reviews looking for a change. The current hosts are so unlikeable with opinion and insights that consistently make them come off as jerks. This is such a great platform, but it is such a waste. Would be nice to hear from hosts that are down to earth, a little more humble and original. Yikes guys.

Your program about the meat industry
This part of today’s program was enlightening. I hope that this information gets to more than 5 million Americans. People need to know that how the meat is produced in this country is making us sick and is unsustainable AND that we the people have the power to make it change by ASKING our grocery stores for better quality meats. Good. Clean. And Fair. That’s how it should be.

20 20 Hindsight
You really annoyed me today. I recall clearly how you wanted the government to help immediately in the beginning do anything, now you sound so authoritative of what “should” have happened. Really? Has Eater ever gone through a pandemic before? In fact I am leaving your podcast your information means little.

I live the Eater insight and the publication as a whole. I wish the hosts would lose the attitude. They seem to have an elitist attitude and are constantly bickering. During times like these we could use a little more positivity.

Actually painful to listen to
I just listened to the podcast with Ed Lee. It was really heart rending to hear about the good work he and his initiative are doing across the country. It was equally sad to hear his voice cracking describing having to turn people away who need help and to hear that Nancy Silverton has Covid. The contrast between this and the coarse and basically stupid banter between the hosts on their other mini stories was stunning. Contrast Ed’s selfless service with their crass heartlessness. These hosts need to spend this shelter in place time to reflect and understand that their condescending take on people in their industry and the state of our world right now is hurtful.

I miss Helen and Greg
Have been listening to the upsell... now digest for a few years and just listened to the episode with Edward Lee. The interview was moving, a real insight to how we as an industry are responding to the covid 19 crisis but that was it. Immediately followed banter back and forth between hosts about latte art and throwing away baked goods in a time of food insecurity is so shallow and self absorbed... as is most of the banter. This was once a podcast about and for industry now it is just shallow back and forth conversation that sometimes includes info about New York Restaurants. Any chance you other eater editors in other demographics want to help these guys out? I miss Helen Rosner and her insight, thoughtfulness, and ability to articulate the industry... and Greg too, even though he still makes an occasional appearance. I say listen to the interview if the guest interest you otherwise, skip.

Are you really that out of touch with what the title is enduring right now? Get off the air.

Pretentious
Caddy, full of judgement and snooty attitude. You guys are worse than hardcore bible thumpers. Always thinking you are better than everyone anc judging people. Who cares why people connect with a celebrity that passed? Maybe they were an inspiration and had an impact on someone’s life? You both lack inspiration and talk like gossipy teenagers girls. Unsubscribing now.

Daniel isn’t a good host
Podcast could be a good one - but Daniel is annoying. I’ve listened off and on and while some of the topics are interesting, he is cringe-worthy on a regular basis. Sorry dude. Time to find a new male cohost for Amanda.

Bad caustic takes and overall quite...Meh
Update 2/29/20: Done with these massive simpletons. Jose Andres preparing meals for those poor people stuck on what is undoubtedly a stinking, corrosive and certainly scary atmosphere on the quarantined cruise ship is heroic. These two are make laughing jokes about the whole nightmare. Every episode shows that Amanda is terrible, both hosts are so full of what they think is adorable, irreverent snark that they’re blind to their obnoxious and abrasive tone. So needlessly hateful. There are many other fantastic food podcasts, don’t waste your time here. OP: I’ve listened to a few episodes and the hosts are...trying too hard? Or maybe too cuuutteee? I really like the short info bites, but just end up irritated with the presentation/hosts. The recent one where they talk about NYers in restaurants put me over the edge that they bought into the whole “New Yorkers are rude” nonsense. Seems like the only people that are rude in NY are outsiders trying to fit in (badly). Like these two. Cya

It’s fun
I always enjoy the food stories. And listening to Amanda lovingly (sort of?) dismiss all of Daniel’s opinions, after which he just caves and says she is right, is somehow really entertaining. Seems like you either love or hate the hosts’ dynamic. I love them!

Like the show but...
It would be better if Daniel wasn’t on it

New room is bad
The hosts’ rapport was way off this week (1/24/20). I blame the new room. I love this show. Put them back in the old room or at least a bigger one. Daniel mentioned they were sitting closer than usual.

TPerfect Palate Cleanser to “The Daily”
I was recommended the episode on natural wine, I learned some things, but stayed for the week in news! I love the hosts so much. Amanda and Daniel have fun energy that leaves me smiling and feeling much restored after “The Daily” wrecks my day. 10 outa 10.

Stop talking politics
You lose everyone when you start to talk about your weekly food stories and start to get political. It’s so bad. Food is good. Don’t turn this podcast into a “edgy” food thing. What you had was decent

So Fun
Love the food stories. Sometimes you guys take a very ... simple... view when it comes to topics you aren’t well versed in - like nutrition - which comes up a lot when discussing food... talk to a dietitian and gain some insight. Otherwise, super fun content and great dynamic btwn the hosts.

Maria Sharapova?!?
Maria Sharapova’s blatant racism is well documented. To hear you fawning all over her, gushing about her waiting hours for good food “just like the rest of us” was appalling. You should be beyond embarrassed. Enjoyed this podcast but not anymore. you’ve lost a loyal subscriber.
