Highly recommend
More of a conversation than an interview. Really enjoy the tone… it’s a relaxing, yet informative, experience.

Fantastic Podcast
Great production values. Be warned that your books to read list will grow and grow with each podcast. I love the interviews and the way the host gets personal. I highly recommend.

Beware... Your TBR list will grow
I truly enjoy this podcast. As a teacher, I try to instill a love of reading by helping students find personal ways to connect to text, showing them that they can develop relationships with books, characters, authors, etc. This podcast is all about that personal connection. Each of Will Schwalbe’s guests describes their personal relationship with reading... its inception, its growth, and one of its peaks. It is a pleasure to listen to their stories and to hear about books that I may connect with as well. Just be warned, your “To Be Read” list will grow.

Perfect
I am so happy I stumbled upon this podcast. I love stories, and Will Schwalbe is both a great storyteller AND interviewer. Even if I haven't heard of the people he interviews or the books that made life-changing impacts on them, I enjoy hearing their stories.

Love the narrator’s style...
From the opening piano, the opening mini stories, to the people with their special books... I just love it. I’m working on my first novel, so it’s lovely to hear the way a novel can touch a person. I’m glad I’m not the only one who counts books as old friends. ❤️

Good shows but where are the show notes?
Where are the show notes? Where are the books mentioned in the episodes?

But That’s Another Story-Dani Shapiro
Loved the interview with Dani Shapiro. Will has such an ease with drawing out his guests and getting to the foundation of what the writers bring to their work. So interesting. I love how Will’s voice always carries the smile of his innate interest in the guest and their subject. I particularly liked the concept of writing from within the trauma. Fascinating.

But That’s Another Story
Thanks for this great podcast! I love hearing how books have influenced the lives of other readers. Listening to their stories has expanded my own bookshelf as I add great recommendations, and I also have been reminded of books I read long ago to which I want to return. Thanks, Will!

A Wonderful Format
I love to this calm, thoughtful podcast. The guest hones in on the book that changed their life and Will Schwalbe asks a few questions. I love how quiet this podcast is and how Will lets the guests go with their stories. The length is perfect, 20 minutes or so, but I could have listened to most of the guests much longer.

A writer and reader’s dream podcast
Great podcast. Uplifting for both readers and writers. An intimate interviewing style that feels like one is in the room along with Schwalbe and his guest listening, or rather sharing their intellectual yet emotionally endearing conversation. This is a welcome treat in our hectic world, especially now: to slow down, to listen/ engage in conversation about the art and craft of storytelling and how that resonates with life.

Writers in Conversation
Wonderful writer and book lover Will Schwalbe engages an astonishingly diverse range of writers in conversation about their work. I've been introduced in this series to writers I hadn't known of and gained insight into writers whose work I know and love. Will is a great conversationalist, with smart opening questions, then letting the writer speak at length and coming back in with a comment or query at what seems just the right moment.

Stories behind the stories
I love to get into the minds of other writers, to hear their passions and fears and hopes and inspirations. But That's Another Story exposes all of these in a warm yet lively environment. Couched by classical music, the guests reveal fascinating facts about themselves and how a book has influenced them and their work. It makes for fantastic listening. Highly recommended.

Sigh of Relief
I love words and I love how others come to find their own words through books. This is more than just a find-a-new-read podcast, this is a podcast that tells the stories of others and I just freaking love it.

A Book Lover’s Dream Podcast
This podcast feels like a wonderful extension of Will’s “Books for Living.” It’s a treat to hear others tell the stories of those books that changed their lives. I look forward to hearing more!

Will Schwalbe
My book club introduced me to Will Schwalbe when we read “The End of Your Life Book Club”. I had lost my mother 20 years before and this book brought her back to me and our shared love of books. The book encouraged me to read more and better. I found the same with his second book. And again while listening to his first 2 podcasts! Please keep it up!
Starpower!!!!!!!
Scrummy!
This podcast is serendipitous. First, during the host’s introduction, he talks about moments in life, in which a specific book appears and things change, as a result of the encounter. I’ve experienced this before and again, recently, so, I felt a happy tingle as I listened. Second, the interview was so well done! Third, the things the guest author chose to share were thoughtful, compelling, and quite unlike the normal media fodder of a book tour, or press junket. Wholly satisfying, in a cozy, this is a treat, sort of way.

In these trying, crying times it is wonderful to hear the story of a life changed by a book. It ties us together in a trusting and hopeful and grateful union. Thank you for helping me to re-member.

exceptional
I expected this to be a great podcast and my expectations were exceeded. Will Schwalbe has a way of putting others at ease and really listening to his guest. The music in the background, at just the right moments, adds to the mood. I can't wait for the next one.

Other-ness
What I found most interesting was how KINDLY Lee elucidatied the difference in her experience growing up in NY and going to Bronx Science high school from what she encountered at Yale. With no vitriole, she says if she encountered those Yale students today they would say they hadn't intended her any unkindness. She gives them the benefit of the doubt, learns from the experience and uses it in her book. I think those prayers for wisdome were answered.

Great Format, Distracting Music
I love the format and very much enjoyed Min Jin Lee, though would like to have heard more about her reading life and why Middlemarch was so influential. A couple of downsides for me. I was annoyed by the music, which was distracting and sometimes so loud as to compete with the Lee’s voice. I also disliked the interruption of the program with an ad. I fast-forward through ads, which is usually a pain, since I’m often walking outside or on a treadmill. I tend to give my listening time to podcasts that have no ads or that use Patreon instead.

Yes! Happy Subscriber.
Yesterday I listened to the first episode of “But That’s Another Story” and subscribed. Host Will Schwalbe’s introduction to the podcast and conversation with author Min Jin Lee centers on stories about story-reading and story-making, with details that make these stories come alive (a lone can of tuna fish, a college seminar’s reaction to Lee’s suggestion that exposition might be needed to clue readers in on what is Stone Henge, a library cart with the right book at the right time, a building super who has to be bribed to provide the Lee family’s first apartment in Queens with heat...). I’m about to host a book group meeting about Lee’s Pachinko so episode 1 was great timing for me AND it inspired me to walk over to my local bookstore, look for”Free Food for Millionaires” and purchase George Eliot’s Middlemarch. Two small quibbles - at least once a surge of music, while nice enough, distracted me. Mixed too loud? Timing? I don’t know. Also the end of the interview lacked the feeling of an ending. Possibly I was distracted by driving. Still, this is a completely different and better ball game than the typical glib author interview in which I’m left wondering whether the interviewer has done more than skim the book and google existing interviews. Thank you. Keep them coming!
