Love the Energy
Great to hear the excitement of living purposefully and in a healthy mindset. Getting older it’s vital to stay moving and limber. Listening to the kids episode I have some feedback about family dinners. You guys glaze over its importance ( or unimportance) and state that the kids don’t sit still or throw food or knock chairs over. I have three boys 2,4,5 and we have had family dinners since day one. I knew that with hard work and repetitive behavior the kids would learn to eat their foods in a calm setting and create good food choices. And it’s worked! They are used to seeing Whole Foods and eating together. While you state playing is more important your missing all the other lessons that eating together brings. Making wholesome food choices, paying attention, setting the table, conversing about your day, and not misbehaving at the table. As a nutrition professional I assure you that eating together will reinforce positive food choices in the long run. Thanks for your podcast and I look forward to hearing more!

Inadequate
As an open-minded, academically trained endocrinologist who aggressively promotes lifestyle changes to optimize hormonal health I was disappointed by the episode on menopause. There was enough misleading info in that episode that I won’t be recommending this podcast to my patients. Please avoid making sweeping statements about hormones and conventional medicine - it weakens the potential power of your intended message.

I’m so I glad I found this podcast!
I just listened to the episode about menopause and fitness with Dr. Abbie Smith-Ryan. I have weight trained for over 30 years, but I am realizing I definitely need to up my game with protein and also supplementation now that Im post menopausal. The entire episode was incredibly helpful and informative.

Actionable info on the current knowledge in nutrition, fitness, etc
Helpful and provides insights that’s practical. However, I wish there were more practical tips on analyzing bloodwork history (episode on ‘Bloodwork What your doctor isn't telling you’).

Barbell Shrugged is a Great Podcast!
Really enjoy this podcast and always learn something fascinating! Loved the episode on Evidence-Based Strategies to Reduce Risk of Dementia and Alzheimers with Dr. Tommy Wood! Amazing take aways and tips on how we can keep our brain healthy for a lifetime. Thank you!

Low Signal, High Noise
Guys, a little organization and clarity in the message would go a long way. I’ve listened to numerous episodes only to get 30 mins in and realize I haven’t heard anything of actual substance. Just a bunch of half-thoughts and interjections and giggling. Perhaps consider what you’re trying to get across with each episode, then distill it and eliminate all the fluff and filler. Would be appreciated.

Really Want to Love This
But they are just selling their expensive coaching and give almost no actionable advice. The answer to every question is “it depends, I have to look at your bloodwork and lifestyle.”

Keeps getting better!
I’ve been listening to barbell shrugged for a couple of years now but lately I have been loving the podcast even more since Dan Garner has come on! So enjoying his wealth of knowledge and view points on how health, performance and body composition come together in a more holistic way. Also really loving the topics lately! Keep it up guys! Y’all are now one of my favorite podcasts!

Little content
I have been listening to the show for a while now. One the hosts get to the content it’s good content. However it’s hard to listen to when there is 30 to 40 minutes of them talking about themselves and pushing there products. It’s a 40 minute commercial. Please give the listeners more content.

Used to really like this podcast
I used to really enjoy listening to this podcast. Wouldn’t miss an episode. Really started to sour on the show after the ridiculous rant about the 80/20 rule. How out of touch are you with the normal population? Do you realize that for most people that would be a 100% improvement in their food choices? I’ve been in the health and fitness industry for more 12 years and for the vast majority of people, especially just starting out, 80/20 is a STEP IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION. How stupid is the idea that a wholesale life change is the only way to go or you aren’t really all that serious. Give me a break. Also I have supported it by buying products that have advertised on their show. And lately, every episode seems like just an hour long commercial for the products that they sell. Not really that much information anymore. Miss the barbell Buddha. For all of the new people go binge that podcast. It’ll change your life.

What happened
I’m so confused. This used to be a great podcast. But now there’s like a 7 min commercial at the beginning and then once it finally starts, Doug never gets to talk! Let Doug talk! Lol and stop just rambling with long personal stories that never “land.” I’m a health and fitness professional and have listened for YEARS so I feel like I need to be loyal to you guys, but come on. Help a girl out.

I’ve never felt so close to a podcast host
I’m 21, never met any of the guys on this podcast. But been listening since I was about 15 when it was the OG’s including Chris doing it. Interviewing Rich Froning and stuff. Well not until Diesel dad episode 20 did I really feel something. Made me cry. I’ve never left a review on a podcast before but man what a powerful episode. When i lost my dad i felt so lost but that barbell was always there. Thanks for the awesome episode. Keep it up, some young guys like me need to hear this stuff.

I can’t live without BBS
This podcast is phenomenal, the amount of dialogue, excellent guests and content has taught me so much I thought I already knew so much about. Daily listener, this is a must for any avid gym goer or someone anyone interested in the industry; A must listen.

Motivating?
As a fat guy, I listen to these guys for motivation. Then, last week, they kind of started putting down fat people. Not too motivating.

Audio
Great content, horrendous audio. Please invest in the proper equipment / sound editing to address this issue! You have such a gem of a podcast, don’t lose listeners because of audio issues.

Solid content
Anders - keep yelling. It’s my favorite part hahaha. Your laugh is contagious!! Keep up the great work. Loving the topics
demerson1990
Love the content hate the quality
Listen to this show all the time for the motivation and educational content... but do you guys even listen to the final product before releasing it for the public? What is up with the audio quality? Echoing, voices getting cut out— I get they’re on zoom/Skype now but is there any QA at all? The fact that if they seem completely oblivious to it makes it even worse. Still gonna listen to it though. Love the content.

Nostalgic
I tend to agree with those that are nostalgic for the old format. This podcast channel is a shell of what it use to be. I would subscribe if not for having to constantly filter through the episodes to find the ones with hosts I like on a topic I am interested in. Thanks for your work in the past.

What’s happening?
This used to be my favorite podcast. Great quality, top content, amazing hosts...... I stopped listening for no fault of the podcast and just came back after a year or so. It’s like pulling teeth trying to listen to this brofest/meathead bar chat now. The constant talking over each other, mumbling, and yelling mixed with lesser content has me looking for other podcast. Pretty bummed.
Lklopez12
Very disappointed in the new format.
You all tap dance around the whole issue of CF and Glassman. You can’t just keep your head focus on fitness while the world is in turmoil. Expected more, but this is the new BS. SMH

Go back to just barbell shrugged
Anders-stop yelling. Travis-speak up. Doug-slow down. Everything else is great!
Charmanella78
Boring
Old hosts used to interview a broad range of people and talk about everything, now it’s very hard to stay focused in because the new hosts go on too many side tangents and talk about 1 or 2 topics only centered around Olympic competitors.

It changed for the worse
2 stars because it used to be great, still have lots of old (2 years ago) episodes that I will go back and listen. Now it is the worst.. in the last year these new guys started and are so CrossFit meathead bro’s I cant stand listening

“It doesn’t matter how many followers you have”
This was the title of newest episode with Ryan Fisher released. I won’t listen because I guarantee the whole episode is him talking over his guest bragging ABOUT HOW MANY FOLLOWERS HE HAS. He’s the worst. I miss Bledsoe.

Has-Been Show
Used to be great. Now, I find episodes that are just recordings of interviews on other podcasts I’ve already heard. The owners have surely lost their way.

Real Chalk
I love the classics barbell shrugged show and I must admit I’m a bit disappointed recently when I listen to real chalk. The first few episodes were great, intros and what not, now every show is Ryan always talking about Ryan. He has had some amazing guests and I get excited when I saw Marcus this week- then I listened to the show and we didn’t hear much from the actual guest. It was all Ryan’s story (again) ... just would like to hear more from the guests.

Ways to Improve
Love the show And, of course, it is hit or miss depending on what your interests are. However, often they spend so much time going over the biography of the guests that you never get to the subject matter you tuned in to learn about. The recent podcast with Wendler is a prime example of this. The other recurring issue that could be improved upon is the audio levels. Can’t count the number of times that the hosts blow out my eardrums while I have to keep cranking up the Volume to hear your voice the guests are saying. Muscle Maven’s recent podcast with Anthony Jay is an example of this.

So bad.
First time listener here and I won’t be back. The conversation was wandering, and the hosting/interviewing skills are terrible.

Episode 18:Jill Coleman
Wonderful and insightful podcast on the reality of starting and running a personal training business. I’ve had my own PT business a little over a year and finding it challenging to find new clientele. Jill’s information was very helpful.

Listen and let the convo flow
Dont think about the next thing your gonna say while the interviewee is talking, it really halts the flow of the conversation. I think you're trying to force the conversation in an unnatural way.

Let the guest talk
Guys y'all bring an expert on and ask them questions only to talk over them. Oh wait, I forgot the hosts know more than everyone else.

Went down hill
I really enjoyed this podcast when it was Barbell Shrugged. Ever since the change it has gone down in quality. Half the time the hosts and guests are just rambling on bragging about their accomplishments with no real content. I am a long time listener that had to just finally hit the unsubscribe button.

Strayed way too far from what made this great
This is my first review of any podcast and it took me awhile to get the balls to put this in writing. I went onto the comments section to see if anyone else felt the same way and I noticed a few did so I figure why not? Take the following as a data point. You get enough of these points and you count them as a trend. I’ve only got three issues. HOSTS- I really really used to enjoy this podcast when Alex M. and Mike M. were hosting. The questions were short, insightful and elicited excellent conversation. Plus Mike knew when to shut up and when to talk and Alex was a perfect ‘everyman’ who infused a lot of relatedness to the listeners. Doug has always been a really smart guy and has typically asked excellent questions but lately the hosts have made this show a free for all with no theme, no direction and insane tangents that make me want to turn it off. Recently I listened to an episode that I promptly turned off where Anders said to a guest there was no structure to the show. I honestly used to eagerly look forward to your new episodes through I’d say 2017 or 2018. Now you have Mike Boyle or Mat Fraser on and I can’t even make it through the episode because the hosts meander and eat up air time talking about their own stuff and overpowering the guest. Relatedly, Fischer is very obsessed with himself for better or for worse. I’ve heard about his knee and his childhood dreams more than I’d care too. If that’s your cup of tea awesome but not really mine. I cannot bring myself to listen to him anymore. Anyway, I just would like to see the show return to a focus on the personalities being interviewed and not a mouthpiece for the hosts. ADs- I have a thirty min commute to work in the mornings. Multiple times I’ve made it halfway or more to my office before I got to the show because the ads eat up so much time. It’s def got to the point I just stopped listening or I’ll switch to something else. I’d advise listening to the Dollop to see a superior way (i.e. use humor) to infuse ads into a podcast. THEMEs- lately it’s been ok but for a while in 2018 the themes of the show were going bizarre. The bread and butter of the fitness world are people who have non fitness goals and jobs. I just want to listen to cool people talk about how and why they’re successful, hear about injury prevention and improve my workout programs and exercises. Some of the super niche themes are really really blah. It’s really sad to me because I spent literally years listening to you all but I think I’m done. I’m giving three stars out of respect to the original hosts and the fact that mike Bledsoe got Julien P. on again recently but I want to give 1-2.

Jen Wiederstrom Makes My Ears Bleed
I have been listening to BS for YEARS and I really enjoy the Shrugged Collective. I do miss Mike & Doug, but I've gotten used to Anders and "all the things." I must ask that you please stop recording with Jen Wiederstrom because I can barely get through the podcasts she is on. I really wanted to hear Gabby Reece, but had to stop 15 minutes in because of Jen's voice/comments/lack of knowledge. I really don't want this to come off as hate because it's not that at all, just some contstructive feedback from a lontime listener.

Great guests and topics...
Always love the guests they bring on and topics they cover, but Anders Varner could pipe down and let the guests speak. Love Douglas Larson, wish he spoke up more!!

Awesome straightforward information with a side of great humor
I've been a huge fan of the SC for a few years now. One of my favorite go-to podcasts. Lots of useful information, large variety and good side stories throughout.

Go to podcast
Pros: Great content and guests Cons: Anders saying “gangster” and ad reads way too long. Plus he talks mainly about him vs asking the guest questions. Listen to good podcasters and learn how to get more out of your guests. Going long is worthless if you aren't getting info from the guests.

Used to be great but now just meh
This show used to be great with lots of knowledge, information and science with guys having fun. I used to listen to every show. Ever since they changed it to shrugged collective it’s taken a turn for the worse. I understand that every podcast has to evolve but it has strayed too far from real information/interviews especially when they push junk science. Doug still asks insightful questions but most of the other hosts like to ask questions by injecting themselves into the conversation too much (Anders does this too much and Ryan Fischer is unbearable). Bottom line- I hope they listen to some of the recent criticism to tighten up the performance across the board

My favorite podcast, ever
Love all these guys! They always keep it real, they interview awesome people, and they’re super humble. I look forward to all their episodes, and I love the Real Chalk ones with Ryan Fisch. Y’all are amazing, keep it up!

The last 5 episodes of shrugged have been really sub par. It’s been a lot of elitism and self serving junk from Anders that is making me unsubscribe. He doesn’t contribute to conversations and rarely keeps guests on track. It doesn’t sound like he knows what they’re talking about when he responds. I loved this show, Doug, Mike, and Chris but it’s gotten to the point where almost every guest is just trying to sell me something and then Anders telling me why I don’t know anything unless I’ve trained as long as him or lived in SoCal or had every experience he’s had. Really bad stretch of shoes recently.

Awesome guests and information. Sometimes I like to play a game where I drink every time Anders says “thing.” It makes for a spicy podcast.

Too many
Loved the old format of one podcast per channel. Too many different podcasts to filter through.
CarrieAnn1985
Lots of bro science.
Some good some bad. Horrible episode about oils and eating out...they really need to prepare better with factual accurate research. Many of the podcasts are juvenile. Eh...you get what you pay for.

Great content , but...
Enjoy all the knowledgeable guests on the show and I never fail to learn something on this pod cast. Howeverrrr, if there’s one thing that may stop me from listening , especially with others in a car with me, is the obnoxious laugh from one of you. It is so loud and annoying I literally have to stop and turn the volume down. If listening on my headphones it even hurts! I dread the laugh coming. Appreciate the laughter and humor but I’d suggest moving away from the mic a little rather than into the mic as it sounds like.
