Thank you for your vulnerability ❤️ It is such a joy find mental health and to see the fruits of our labor after years of self work and therapy. And thank goodness for boundaries ❤️ Glad you are still here.

Like Watching a Divorce
I loved Ask Science Mike. It was a podcast I could get behind fully. Mike took the time and effort into answering sometimes the toughest questions thrown at him, even though (and he repeatedly stated this) he is not a scientist. I discovered him through the Liturgists Podcast. His banter and friendship with Michael Gungor was beautiful. Then something happened. Science Mike left the Liturgists abruptly, which involved a non-disclosure agreement. He dropped the moniker of Science Mike and was simply Mike McHargue. The Liturgists imploded as well, with the other two guests leaving abruptly and issuing joint statements. The friendship between Mike McHargue and Michael Gungor was over. This was demonstrated through a very public Twitter confrontation between the two. It was like watching two parents go through a divorce. These two men who were the best of friends parted ways that was publicly not amicable. I was left wondering where this left me as a man of faith. These two men were so instrumental in my deconstruction and reconstruction of my faith. Now they had mutually blocked each other. I was left wondering what happened. Trying to ask these questions is like trying to pick sides. I don’t want to do that. I just want them to reconcile. So this has tainted my view on the Cozy Robot Show. It was still a good show. The episode on Codependency left me crying because I identified so much with it. Unfortunately the very public interactions Mike has had with his former friend, Michael Gungor, has reduced my rating. However, it seems now all pointless. Mike McHargue will not be a part of the podcast any longer because of health issues. I wish him well. I wish him peace. I just also wish it didn’t end like this.

A Safe Space
I have listened to Mike for years starting from when he hosted The Liturgists. I always connected with him most compared to others. Perhaps because we are both 9s on the enneagram? Regardless, I love this space Mike has created where someone like me, in a faith-transition, is able to ask questions and exist as myself without fear. To anyone who reads this, I welcome you to join us on the Cozy Robots Discord! We play games, have a book club, and talk about anything and everything. You don’t have to be religious or exvangelical at all, people from all walks of life I hope feel safe in this community. It’s nice to have this when we’ve not been able to have physical community, and especially as I’ve been navigating finding a new church (or not). Thanks Mike for all you do. I’ve learned so much from you, this podcast, and this community.

Listening to episode 231
Friday, March 13,2020 - is “The Day” that marks the beginning of the “Pandemic” for our family. Being in tax/accounting, the timing was already during a typically busy stressful work time in my home office. The relief measures only added to the load of work. Then having the whole family having to be here to do their own stuff- well like the rest of the world, things have been tough. Today is Feb 3, 2021. Had stepped back from podcast listening over past year. I am a Type 7 on the Enneagram, & I had become even more overwhelmed than usual, so I looked for relief - decided to identify and press “pause” on anything “extra” (read: avoid social media). So today I find myself listening to episode 231. Mike is sad. I am sad too. I’m sorry Mike is sad, but also this is one of the reasons I adore this man. I love his vulnerability and honesty. My 29yo son has disabilities, among which is Autism. Mike is on the spectrum as well. My son is so honest, he can’t do it any other way. Mike is too. Thank you Mike for sharing. I don’t know how you decide to do it. But I am endlessly grateful for your presence in the world. This episode helped remind me of the “goal” which I set a few days after 3/13/2020. My goal (which I forget some days) is.... “Simply Survive”

My favorite podcast
From a very picky podcast person, Ask Science Mike is my absolute favorite. Mike and the team make content digestible and accessible without losing any sense of engagement. It’s so relevant and doesn’t shy away from difficult topics, offering thoughtful conversation and credible info. I also love that it’s not sensationalistic and offers an honesty, and often hopefulness, that are difficult to find. Listen to every single episode. Seriously.

Where both science and mystery are welcome
I heard Mike on Pete Holmes podcast. I immediately ordered his book, which I’ve now finished and love. This podcast gives me a sense of belonging. I’m an atheist leaning agnostic and also a natural mystic. That certainly has made it extremely difficult to fit in. Mike, like me, loves the wonders of science and also pays attention to emotions, feelings, and our personal idea of spirituality.

The Short Version
I was introduced to Mike on GMM, and my life is now better with this podcast (and now You’re a Miracle...) in it. It’s honestly what I needed more of (Hank and John Green provide a similar comfort), and I wish I had found you earlier. Thank you for giving me a safe place to cry and be in awe of humanity and human ingenuity with you.

GMM introduced me to Science Mike
The episode you were on was absolutely fantastic! I love that you are actual friends with Rhett and Link. You need to be on the show more! Also I just got both your books! Just started reading Finding God in the Waves and so far it’s so relatable and great to read! I look forward to the rest and You’re a Miracle ( and a pain in the a**). I’m so happy to have found you!

GMM Brought Me Here, Mike Made Me Stay
Just watched GMM where Mike was on as a guest. He was so knowledgeable and funny I wanted to check his podcast out. Been listening all morning while I work at home due to COVID. Thanks for all the cool info Mike!

Thank you
I’ve been a fan of yours for a while now. Listening to your newest episode on COVID-19 has been so beneficial to me. I’m a CNA in a hospital and trying to cope with isolation away from work while remaining steadfast in my commitment to patients and the public. Thank you for spreading peace and clarity in this trying time.

A great place to start for increasing your science literacy!
Ask Science Mike is one of my favorite podcasts of all time. He provides thoughtful, nonjudgmental responses to listeners' questions to the best of his ability, and he's not afraid to say if he doesn't know an answer. A great place to start for increasing your science literacy!

One of the best shows for sparking curiosity
I can't think of another podcast that I've listened to that covers such a wide range of topics in as gentle a tone as this one. I've been listening to this podcast for the past 3 years, and it has had a profound impact in pushing me to think about my worldview and how it could be more inclusive.

Profanity
Very disappointing to find you broadcast without warnings of the use of profanity. I don’t find the use of such explicit language intelligent or at all enlightening. I listened to the 10th show of the first season and was so intrigued, then skipped to the most recent show and encountered the needless use of several vulgar words without warning. Very irresponsible. Absolutely no need for it other than to offend. Was so looking forward to subscribing but regretfully can’t trust the decision making here and therefore can’t trust your motivations or your conclusions.

Voice of reason
While I don’t always agree with Science Mike on personal issues, he brings a voice of reason to hard topics and breaks down difficult topics into very digestible information!

A Gift to the World!
Science Mike is exactly the kind of person we need in this era that we live in. He’s highly intelligent, respects science and is very knowledgeable about it, and knows in his bones that — at the heart of our humanity ARE our hearts. And he has one made of gold.

Paradigm Shifting
Phyllis Tickle helped popularize the idea that every 500 years or so there is a paradigm shift within the Christian religion. Around 380 CE Christianity became the state religion of the Roman Empire, in 1054 the Church split into Eastern and Western factions and in 1517 Martin Luther sparked the Reformation. Science Mike is helping to guide us through the latest paradigm shift along with contemporaries like Richard Rohr, Barbara Brown Taylor, Nadia Bolz-Weber, Francis Collins and so many more, bridging the gap between what we are made of and what we are made for; what we believe and what we know; what lights our path and what light is.

A seat at the table
Mike I am glad I have chosen to offer you a seat at my life’s table. You and Hillary McB taught me to own that decision and be present as I commune on the life experiences with the quests I have invited. Grace and peace to you.

I love you Mike, but...
There are plenty of white people religions that revere and utilize spirit guides that are animal in nature. Paganism, Celtic animism, Druidism,Wiccan… as well as several African religions and ancient Asian animal-based practices. So maybe we could inquire as to why a non-native American person feels that they have guidance or communication with an animal spirit before accusing them of appropriation. If they feel drawn to explore this aspect of spirituality maybe it would be an opportunity to guide them into something more culturally aligned with their heritage.

Science and faith in the same place!
I simply appreciate the affirmation that science and faith not only co exist but compliment each other. I don’t know if I agree with everything Mike puts out there, but that’s the beauty of this podcast. He welcomes all. He also provides a lot of comfort and affirmation for those going through crises of faith (what he calls deconstruction.) Thanks for being awesome!

So good!!

Great podcast especially when you are rebuilding your faith
Science Mike has helped my faith tremendously in dealing with the false dichotomy I had with science and faith. I have recently deconstructed and am in the process of rebuilding my faith. Deconstruction of my faith has caused me severe anxiety (lost 15 lbs), but finding a safe place to learn and grow is what I found on this podcast as well as Bible for Normal People podcast. I have since gained the weight back and am in much better spirits. Nice to here I am not alone and many others have had the same experiences. Great insights on both science and faith. Thank you Mike!!!!

Science Mike is great!
Love Mike and his helpful answers about science. Fans always ask faith-related questions because Mike is so gentle and warm, but I wish they would stick to more science! I like that he takes the audience’s wishes into account, and adjusts his episodes accordingly. Thanks for your great work, Mike!

This podcast has been a turning point in my life. Seems tacky to say it but I think I am a better human because of the insights and humility mike shows.

This podcast blows my mind
I read Mike's book "Finding God in the Waves" and that was the beginning of a major breakthrough in my faith journey. That book led me to Ask Science Mike and The Liturgists, and both were so helpful in my deconstruction. I love the Q&A episodes, but the other episodes are fantastic, too. SM is just so dang smart- I always love hearing his perspective!

My first binge podcast!
I’m sorry it took me so long to write this, it’s long overdue! After reading Mike’s book (the week it came out) I finally listened to his podcast. As a self-professed nerd who had left a ministry position in an evangelical church due to my slow deconstruction of my beliefs, this podcast was perfect. I binged the whole thing and look forward to every new episode! I don’t always agree with Mike, but I have loads of respect for his depth of research, humility, and his ability to listen and love people different from him. He consistently stands up for marginalized people while exploring both lighthearted and very deep questions. I was lucky enough to attended a live podcast and it was an amazing evening. I highly recommend getting to a live show if you can! This was the podcast that opened the door to other podcasts for me, now I listen to more than I can keep up with! But I always keep up with Ask Science Mike!
