The guests that are on this show are interesting, but the host could really improve at actually hosting. He asks incredibly leading questions, not giving the guests much space for their responses. Sometimes it’s like he didn’t prepare so his questions are rambling. With young women artists instead of asking what got them interested in music and who their influences were/are he asks, “so what did you parents like?” Etc. I don’t think it’s intentional but those things can make it hard to get through an episode when I just want to hear the guests, not his rambling thoughts.

I’m not in he music industry, but I am a music fanatic. Hearing the stories behind the songs and artists I love keeps me coming back each week. Ross also introduces me to new artists and sounds I haven’t explored before! Love it, love the new And The Demo is feature every few weeks!

I’ve never reviewed a podcast before but felt compelled to in this case because this one is such an annoying failure. One would think a podcast such as this would be hard to screw up, but that’s exactly what the host manages to do. It’s hard to chose what element is more grating: his annoying voice, or the inane questions he poses to his accomplished guests.

Love the podcast - always insightful. I especially loved the demo feedback episodes- so much so that I wanted more! Could you do a sister podcast of sorts where you give demo feedback exclusively?

Discovered this after seeing Ross’ show The Wrong Man off-Broadway and absolutely loved the music. That brought me here and I’m learning so much interesting background on music hits.

My favorite interviews about music are with songwriters, it almost always feels like the most informative if you want to really learn the business. I didn’t know a podcast like this existed but I just found this today and I’m soooo excited!!

I caught this one late but I am bingeing like mad now. I listen to a lot of podcasts and this is right up there with Marc Maron and Terry Gross in terms of fun and revealing and interviews with creative people about their journey and process. My daughter (shout-out to Emmrose...on Apple Music and Spotify) is a young songwriter and performer and we have learned so much about the business and the people behind it from the guests on this show. I can’t rave enough. If you want to know the story behind the hits, give this a listen.

The interviews are fantastic. If you are truly into musicology, you can glean some great information as well as learning the journeys of the various guests such as how they started, who influenced them, etc. Really good stuff here. Highly recommend it.

Just getting into this podcast. Really good stuff and inspiring. But I don’t see any urban/hip hop writers like Hitmaka, Ty Dolla Sign, Jeremiah, Starrah, Oak Felder, Pop Wansel, PartyNextDoor, The-Dream. Just would love a different perspective from that genre of the industry. Also break certain stigmas, stereotypes, and general snobbery

This podcast is so entertaining and insightful! I would recommend it to any aspiring artist, producer or songwriter. Ross and the special guests have helped me gain so much knowledge about how the industry is and who’s writing what. Incredible!

I dare any sentient songwriter not to learn at least a half dozen things from each interview, whether it’s music theory, the business, writing process, handling relationships with collaborators and artists, production...and life. You’ll hear funny or poignant stories and get a sense of the hard work, persistence, luck, social finesse, hard work, etc. needed to be successful. I love it!

As an aspiring producer/engineer. This is possibly one of the top podcasts I listen to. There’s so many podcasts out there but Ross and his featured guests is the best education and fun to listen to!

This is a great listen for anyone but a MUST LISTEN for any writer/producer/artist. Ross asks all the right questions and peaks into the veiled world of writing/producing. I’ve learned so much from the past 6 months of listening to this podcast. Very pumped for this current season.

This season has gotten so pretentious. These guys are comparing themselves to legends for being 1 of 10 writers on a 3 minute pop song. Get serious. Get some actual song writers on here who know how to play instruments and compose an entire song from top to bottom.

This is so valuable to anyone who wants to be a full time songwriter. It’s a great education to listen to each writer’s individual story. Thanks for this resource!

I find this podcast interesting and love the interviews with artists. I just find the questions the host asks to be long-winded. Maybe it’s kind of nit-picky but it annoys me so much for some reason.

Honestly Ross does such a great job at getting personal with his guests and treating the interviews with such honesty and sincerity that I keep forgetting he’s not one of my actual friends lol. Can’t recommend this enough for songwriters.
