I am an SLPA and I have found this podcasts so so helpful, there are many speech podcasts that are largely conversational and about concepts in therapy but this one is so applicable! I am soo so grateful because although there is tons of content out there, this podcasts is like a little supervisor everyday.

I came across Laura’s podcast when I was trying to figure out how to get my non-speaking two year old to catch up and start saying 2-word phrases. I have learned SO much from her about milestones, early intervention and how to start at the child’s current level to do all the baby steps that will help them learn to talk. He’s now 3, has an autism diagnosis and thanks to everything I’ve learned plus ABA and speech therapy he’s speaking a lot. Thank you so much for all you do, Laura.

I’d been excited to find this podcast but after listening to a handful of episodes was very disappointed. My husband summarized the ones he listened to as unprofessional both in vernacular and repetitiveness in the episodes. As a professor and a teacher we value information being presented in a relevant and succinct manner. These episodes are unnecessarily lengthy. My main concern was the outdated terminology used regarding autism and not being a part of the neurodiverse movement which is so important for parents looking for SLPs nowadays. We love our SLPs and are thankful they “presume potential” both in the autistic child and the parents, unlike this host. It was clear how little experience the host has had with a robust AAC and is very outdated. It is possible to learn a button/picture without needing to do 30 trials a day, not a good reason not to get a device like was recommended. We spearheaded my sons AAC acquisition at 2.5yrs. He’d had 3 signs in 6mo but were done waiting, and sure enough in the first month of his device he had over 100 words. And to address the belief that just because a child can’t select the correct button or picture doesn’t mean they don’t know the correct answer or understand. Much has come out showcasing that nonverbal autistics do understand they might not be able to demonstrate it regularly or on command, again important to presume competence. My biggest recommendation would be to listen to autistic voices, and stories out there, especially those nonverbal autistics, it’ll be very enlightening. Other podcasts out there have set the bar high , this is one to skip.

I am so grateful for Laura Mize and her excellent FREE materials- podcasts and videos. I have a healthcare background, but the information is accessible for SLPs and “laypeople” alike. I have searched and not found anything close to this treasure trove of resources. I have been listening to this podcast and implementing suggestions for 6 weeks, and my baby has progressed significantly. We have also started private speech therapy while waiting for our early intervention evaluation, which has been very expensive. Having Laura’s resources has helped much more than anything else. I’m considering purchasing her therapy manual from her website, since taking notes while listening can be cumbersome. Thank you Laura for spending so much time to help parents like me!

As a (non pediatric) SLP and mom to a later talking toddler, this podcast has been incredibly helpful. I would understand and benefit from listening even if I were not an SLP. I agree with previous reviewers that it can be difficult to find the recent episodes. I don’t have this with other podcasts I listen to. That’s just a small suggestion though - love this podcast!

I love everything on learn from this show. I encourage you to create seasons - it is cumbersome to scroll through nearly 400 shows looking for a specific number. Maybe make each year a “season” or two.

The content in this podcast is very helpful, however, the audio is extremely hard to hear.

I got helpful advice from this, but I think the podcasts could be shortened significantly and would be so much more effective. In one episode it literally took 30 minutes to even get to the episode topic.

I listen to this podcast between sessions as I drive and then can immediately use the ideas and ways of explaining concepts to parents! This podcast has shaped my therapy and continues to take my effectiveness to the next level.

I have been listening to this podcast for months. Most of the time after I finish an episode, I don’t feel like I got a lot of valuable information for my developmental delay/SPD/asd child. Instead, what the creator of this podcast does is makes the parents of patients feel guilty for not doing what she recommends. In some episodes she speaks to another Speech Pathologists and they’re openly saying, “I don’t know why ___ won’t do this for ___.” - maybe it’s because parents are trying the best that they can? Maybe we are the ones who do not understand what you are telling us? Maybe you didn’t give adequate resources or point us in the right direction? I did email her about that specific episode and she somewhat apologized on the next episode but really she just restated what she had said. Most of us are completely new to this world and feel overwhelmed and exhausted with guilt. You aren’t talking to your BFF, you’re talking to the world. We are trying to help, trying to understand, doing everything we can or we wouldn’t be listening to this podcast. This mornings episode talks about whether a kid is “smart” or “intelligent” enough to form words. 😐 are you for real? So many more words that the creator could have selected to say but she chose smart/intelligent? Ew. This podcast is not healthy for parents, maybe for speech pathologists. Sure I get some ideas from this podcast but I find a lot of episodes to be very unprofessional.

Hands down best podcast when working with young children. I have purchased two DVD’s and watch them all the time to give me Tips and tricks when working with children with or without speech delays. It’s a topic that def needed more attention. I want to buy the handbook I use for the kids in my daycare
