LeRoy Gardner and Robert "Hollywood" Hemingway are two of the handful of African-American head coaches in college wrestling. On Episode 68 of the World Wrestling Resource Podcast, the pair talk about the differences and similarities in exposing the sport to wrestlers of all backgrounds, as well as explaining how wrestlers of color can find opportunities to compete beyond the Division I level. Where can the opportunity grow? Is it with the HBCU's, of which Allen is the only four-year HBCU in the country with wrestling. What resources can be put forth to increase the visibility of wrestling across every gender, race, color and creed? It's a level-headed discussion about things around the world and hurdles all types of coaches face, regardless of their racial or socio-economic makeup. Hemingway recently released a short self-published book called "I'm Black, Let Me Wrestle," which you can find at lulu.com. Nearly 20 years ago, the sport of college wrestling was rocked by deaths of three college athletes as they tried to cut weight. Billy Saylor, Joe LaRosa and Jeff Reese all died after massive dehydration complicated by the use of legal, yet mostly untested supplements. The result was sweeping change from the NCAA, including moving dual meet weigh-ins to one hour before and banning of anything related to weight loss that wasn't simply a product of hard work. Rubber suits, something advertised in wrestling magazines since the 1960's became illegal everywhere, not just at the site of competition. The use of saunas, while still beneficial according to some, was also banned. On Episode 36 of the World Wrestling Resource podcast, we'll talk with a pair of 1972 Olympic Champions, Ben Peterson and Dan Gable, about the situation with hydration and wrestlers from 1997, what changes occurred, what still needs to happen and where the finger should have been pointed. All that and more on WWR. World champions Dennis Hall and Terry Brands return to the World Wrestling Resource Podcast with Episode 34 as the two tackle the Cadet and Junior World Championships, rule changes and international discipline. We first tackle the new rule change handed down by United World Wrestling that eliminates forced par terre in Greco-Roman. Dennis Hall doesn't like it. We then get into a spirited discussion about what needs to happen to "make Greco cool" so our Cadets get a chance to wrestle the style more and be better equipped internationally as they move up in the age ranks. We then talk about the development of the Cadet and Junior World championships and whether or not athletes like Spencer Lee and Mark Hall are the rule or the exception. Then we finish up with the disciplinary action handed down by UWW on Mongolia and what we expect to see given to Russia after one of their coaches assaulted an official on the mat during the Cadet Worlds. Historically, wrestling has been looked at from the outside world as a society of people who starve themselves and put themselves through agony just to compete. Wrestlers know it's more than that. Wrestlers also know proper weight management is based on sound nutrition. They know what to do and what not to do. On Episode 18 of the World Wrestling Resource Podcast, Clint Wattenberg, the Coordinator of Sports Nutrition Nutrition at Cornell University, will join Jason Bryant and Iowa associate head coach Terry Brands in a discussion about where nutrition has evolved and how important it is to wrestlers. Wattenberg is a California native who also works with the My Sports Dietician group with a wrestling-centric website at MyWrestlingNutrition.com and he's authored Performance Nutrition for Wrestlers, a book aimed at making what works work and what doesn't work go away. On Episode 11 of the World Wrestling Resource Podcast, we talk international wrestling with Dennis Hall and Jon McGovern. The first part of our discussion centers around the large tournament hosted in Iran, with over 2,100 entries over 100 weight classes and over 8,000 spectators. Welcome to the World Wrestling Resource Podcast, we're joined today as we start looking towards the wrestling season and the upcoming World Championships with Jon McGovern, head coach at the University of Dubuque and two-time NCAA Division II champion, Terry Brands Freestyle World Champion and Associate Head Coach at the University of Iowa and Dennis Hall, Greco-Roman World Champion.   Before we get into our discussion today, we'll pitch this to Coach McGovern to give you an understand of what the World Wrestling Resource is and the benefits of jumping on board with WWR --    Moving into our coaching discussion. Coach Brands, what should coaches be doing this fall to prepare for the season?   -- Regardless of the program, what are the key points that college coaches need to understand about their athletes, whether it be Division I, Division III, NAIA?    -- Coach McGovern, being at the Division III level, what differences do you have to deal with when coaching your athletes. You've got guys who aren't scholarship athletes, you might even have some playing other sports. You've got an interesting perspective, since you've also coached at the Division I level as well.   Coach Hall, youth wrestling and wrestling below the high school level has exploded with big participation numbers, USA Wrestling has record membership numbers, so there are a lot more kids wrestling. What can youth parents and coaches do for their sons and daughters to prepare for the upcoming season?   Now we move to the upcoming World Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. The U.S. is bringing an extremely exciting team to the mats in freestyle. Coach Brands, before we talk about the individual athletes, as a whole, you were coming through in an era with some great teams. How do you think today's World Team compares to some of the great teams you were on in the past?   -- Specifically about the two athletes from the Hawkeye Wrestling Club, you've got a first-timer in Tony Ramos and you've got a three-timer with Brent Metcalf. It might be a loaded question to ask what do you expect from them, but ... well, what do you expect from them?   Dennis, we've got a new national team coach in Greco-Roman with Matt Lindland. The U.S. hasn't won a medal in Greco-Roman wrestling since Dremiel Byers won silver back in 2009. What does Coach Lindland have to do to get our World and Olympic Teams to start winning medals again?   -- This year's team has a mix of experience and youth. Spenser Mango is on his seventh-straight World or Olympic Team, he was fifth last year. Justin Lester is a two-time world medalist and he is taking advantage of the new weight class at 71kg. Then there's repeat World Teamers as well with Andy Bisek, Jordan Holm, Robby Smith. What are you hoping to see in Uzbekistan and how well do you think Team USA can perform?   -- We recently wrapped up the annual NWCA Convention in Fort Lauderdale, and Jon you were there and some of the key topics were about focusing on what the critical areas for wrestling are, skin infections and prevention and of course, the National Duals. What were some of the takeaways you got from the Convention on a program-specific level and from a wrestling in general perspective?
