We start off in Good Pop Bad Pop with movie reviews for Horse Girl on Netflix, Ali & Cavett: The Tale of the Tapes on HBO, United We Fan on Amazon Prime as well as theater movies with Sonic the Hedgehog and Downhill. I totally watched Fantasy Island but just like the movie it was pretty forgettable and I forgot to review it on the episode. I’ll be reviewing it for Scene-It Cast later this weekend so check out that episode. Anyway, in TV we talk about the new season of Survivor, LEGO Masters, Locke & Key, McMillions and Mythic Quest: Raven’s Banquet. In News we discuss the Knives Out sequel news. In this episode the Leftovers are joined by Paul Hart from The Animated Batcast and Movies from the Hart and a very special guest. In this episode we review, rate and discuss Birds of Prey: And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn. In the Warner Bros. Pictures film, Margot Robbie (“I, Tonya”) returns as Harley Quinn, alongside Mary Elizabeth Winstead (“10 Cloverfield Lane,” TV’s “Fargo”) as Huntress; Jurnee Smollett-Bell (HBO’s “True Blood”) as Black Canary; Rosie Perez (“Fearless,” “Pitch Perfect 2”) as Renee Montoya; Chris Messina (“Argo,” TV’s “Sharp Objects”) as Victor Zsasz; and Ewan McGregor (upcoming “Doctor Sleep,” the “Trainspotting” films) as Roman Sionis. Newcomer Ella Jay Basco also stars as Cassandra “Cass” Cain in her feature film debut. Directed by Cathy Yan (“Dead Pigs”) from a script by Christina Hodson (“Bumblebee”), the film is based on characters from DC. Robbie also produced, alongside Bryan Unkeless and Sue Kroll. The film’s executive producers are Walter Hamada, Galen Vaisman, Geoff Johns, Hans Ritter and David Ayer. Joining Yan behind the scenes was a creative team comprised of director of photography Matthew Libatique (“A Star Is Born,” “Venom”); production designer K.K. Barrett (“Her”); editor Jay Cassidy (“American Hustle,” “Silver Linings Playbook”) and editor Evan Schiff (“John Wick Chapters 2 & 3”); and costume designer Erin Benach (“A Star Is Born”). The music is by Daniel Pemberton (“Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse”). Warner Bros. Pictures Presents a LuckyChap Entertainment Production, a Clubhouse Pictures Production, a Kroll & Co. Entertainment Production, “Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn).”. You ever hear the one about the cop, the songbird, the psycho and the mafia princess? “Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn)” is a twisted tale told by Harley herself, as only Harley can tell it. When Gotham’s most nefariously narcissistic villain, Roman Sionis, and his zealous right-hand, Zsasz, put a target on a young girl named Cass, the city is turned upside down looking for her. Harley, Huntress, Black Canary and Renee Montoya’s paths collide, and the unlikely foursome have no choice but to team up to take Roman down. Share this:

Brian and Joe Stark talk with Ryan Drost of the Star Joes podcast about his new Kickstarter project an all ages comic book Stealth Hammer. The goal of the Kickstarter is to create the first issue of a true all-ages comic (meaning something anyone of any age can read and enjoy, not just for kids). Once that is produced, I’ll be looking to shop it around to hopefully be picked up and create a series. The Kickstarter will fund the costs for the artwork (all done by new amazing artist Alexandra Scott, currently artist on web comic Woven), the printing, costs to produce some of the rewards, and to cover taxes on the income. I’m receiving no income from this campaign. The comic will be a 22 page story. There will be a stretch goal that will allow for the 5 page Kickstarter story to also be printed in the first issue. There will be a variant cover by Robert Atkins, and a pinup in the interiors done by Shannon Gallant. The elevator pitch of the story: Jami Taylor is a college student going to school for graphic design. Her parents are famous scientist/inventor, Dr. Everett Taylor, and world traveling interior designer, Veronica Taylor. Even with successful parents, Jami has always worked hard to make her own mark in the world. This drive and her spirit of adventure came from her grandmother, Patricia Taylor, who explored the world to help those in need. Jami’s never give up attitude became critical when she found herself victim to sabotage in her father’s lab. This left her with incredible powers that will lead her to a much larger world. The first issue is an origin story, but layered in the dialogue and the images, you’ll find hints to legacy, mythical beings, alternate dimensions, and more. While this is the start of a new adventure, as Jami would say, “That’s not how this story ends!” CLICK HERE TO HELP BACK THE KICKSTARTER FOR STEALTH HAMMER Share this:

It’s always awkward ending trying to end these show descriptions.  Not really sure how to end them after 280 episodes which is super pathetic.  Hear me out here.  Most podcasts would end with something along the lines of “so pop in some headphones and give it a listen”.  I hate that kinda crap.  I’m not saying “don’t listen” but I’m not gonna enthusiastically say something so trite.  Some of you are saying “it shouldn’t be that hard to end these podcast descriptions” and some of you are saying “what the hell does trite mean?” And to those people I’ll say: trite /trīt/ adjective * (of a remark, opinion, or idea) overused and consequently of little import; lacking originality or freshness. “this point may now seem obvious and trite” SEE YOU NEXT WEEK FOR AVENGERS ENDGAME Share this:

If this episode feels rushed it’s because we had already recorded 3 hours of Star Wars content and realized we still had to record a regular episode. So there’s that.  We’re joined by Kevin Shanks of the Nobody Asked You Kevin! podcast this week and we’re talking about a bunch of films for Good Pop Bad Pop: Hellboy, Pet Sematary, The Silence, Missing Link. Guava Island and The Mustang.  For TV we discuss Black Summer on Netflix, Brogan: Master of Castles on VRV & MONDO, The Act on Hulu and One Punch Man Season 2.  We didn’t talk about it this week but the trailer for Chambers coming to Netflix starring Uma Thurman is in the show notes. In News we talk about some Disney+ announcements and the Beetlejuice sequel not going forward.  In Marvel News we talk about Kevin Feige’s plan going forward after Avengers: Endgame.  In DC News Idris Elba is still in Suicide Squad but he is not Deadshot. We also talk about a bunch of random crap.  This episode is terrible.  Enjoy consuming garbage. SHAZAM! ⚡ In this episode the Leftovers are joined by Rebekah Dahling from Number One Comic Books and Steve Miller from The Space Cowboy podcast to talk about Shazam! We rate and review the film as well as talk about what potential sequels could be in store. We also talk about the CinemaCon footage for Birds of Prey and Wonder Woman 1984 and finish up by talking about the Joker movie trailer starring Joaquin Phoenix directed by Todd Phillips. David F. Sandberg (“Annabelle: Creation”) directs New Line Cinema’s “Shazam!,” the origin story that stars Zachary Levi (TV’s “Chuck”) as the titular DC Super Hero, along with Mark Strong (the “Kingsman” movies) in the role of Super-Villain Dr. Thaddeus Sivana, and Asher Angel (TV’s “Andi Mack”) as Billy Batson. Peter Safran (“Aquaman,” “The Conjuring” and “Annabelle” films) serves as the film’s producer. We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Strong). “Shazam!” also stars Jack Dylan Grazer (“IT”) as Billy’s best friend and ultimate superhero enthusiast, Freddy, and Oscar nominee Djimon Hounsou (“Blood Diamond”) as the Wizard. The cast also includes Faithe Herman (TV’s “This is Us”), Grace Fulton (“Annabelle: Creation”), Ian Chen (TV’s “Fresh Off the Boat”), Jovan Armand (TV’s “Hawaii Five-0”), Marta Milans (TV’s “Killer Women”) and Cooper Andrews (TV’s “The Walking Dead”). Firmly set in the DC universe but with his own distinctly fun, family-centric tone, the screenplay is by Henry Gayden, story by Gayden and Darren Lemke, based on characters from DC. Shazam was created by Bill Parker and C.C. Beck. Jeffrey Chernov, Christopher Godsick, Geoff Johns, Walter Hamada, Dwayne Johnson, Dany Garcia, Hiram Garcia, Richard Brener and Dave Neustadter serve as executive producers. Share this:

In this bonus episode of Pop Culture Leftovers Rebekah and Melissa interview Shelbi Webb, one of the youngest published female comic book authors in the world. Shelbi Webb is 13-years-old and resides in a small Utah community. She has always loved art and finding ways to be creative. Shelbi started writing for the local county paper in 2016 as a junior reporter attending Comic Conventions. Though she is still a child, Shelbi has personal experience with bullying and suicide of close acquaintances. She has also seen friends and family battle with mental illness, self-image, addiction, and many other issues. Because of this, Shelbi wanted to make a difference and help young adolescents struggling with similar challenges. The antagonists in the comic are personifications of the problems facing teens today. Sugar Glider’s most important power is an enlarged empathy. Instead of fighting the antagonists, she helps them. Mental Health is a big part of the comic and the importance of counseling is addressed and used to assist the struggling adolescents. Shelbi launched Sugar Glider in 2018 and has been a guest at several comic conventions in the Western US and featured in local and national news stories.  She is also an ambassador for two non-profit organizations; one focuses on building up young women to be tomorrow’s leaders and another on loving everyone with an anti-bullying message. Shelbi continues to travel the country spreading her very important message of love and acceptance. Shelbi is the subject of a pilot episode for BYU TV as a documentary of amazing things kids are doing around the world. She has produced a “Comic with a Cause”…Sugar Glider. The first story arc of the comic features the popular band X Ambassadors. Shelbi is determined to create change in young people’s lives.   Share this:

It’s Episode 268. In this episode Brian is joined by Rebekah Dahling and first time guest Michael Winkler.  Right out of the gate in this one we are talking the Spider-Man: Far From Home trailer.  We break it down and talk theories.  Does this in a way spoil the outcome of Avengers: End Game? For Good Pop Bad Pop we talk Wayne on YouTube Premium, True Detective Season 3 on HBO, Ben Is Back, Unmade on IMDb.com, GLASS from M. Knight Shyamalan and Punisher Season 2 on Netflix. Rebekah talks Destroyer with Nicole Kidman.  We’ll also dive into a couple of trailers here: John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum and The Man Who Killed Hitler and then The Bigfoot starring Sam Elliott. We then in News talk about the Ghostbusters 3 announcement and what that means and rumors about who will be our new team.  We also discuss the Uncharted film getting a new director.  And finally, Robert Kirkman’s Skybound Entertainment is going to be remaking the Korean action film “The Villainess” into a TV series. We skip Marvel News and deep dive into the DC rumors pool and believe me there are a ton of them.  Lots of rumors coming out about The Batman this week.  I even have heard a possible name of an actor who might be cast as the younger Batman in Matt Reeves “The Batman”.  So, yeah.  It’s a long episode so good look trying to get through the whole thing.  I feel like our episodes sometimes are like a food challenge.  After awhile you’re just full and sick of hot dogs.
