Vi må ta vare på jorden så den kan fortsette å gi oss disse tingene. Jorden har noen problemer. Vi kan hjelpe med å fikse jordens problemer. PROBLEM: IKKE NOK VANN Vi trenger ferskvann for å leve. Ferskvann faller fra himmelen som regn eller snø. Vi får ferskvann fra elver, innsjøer og fra bakken. Det er ikke nok ferskvann. HVA FOLK KAN GJØRE Skru av vannet når du pusser tennene. Ta korte dusjer. Fiks vannkranen hvis den drypper. Vann plenen mindre ofte. PROBLEM: SKITTEN LUFT Når vi skruer på tven så bruker vi strøm. Mye strømbruk gjør luften på jorden skitten. Når vi kjører bruker vi bensin. Stor bruk av bensin gjør også luften på jorden skitten. HVA FOLK KAN GJØRE Skru av lysene når du forlater et rom. Skru av datamaskiner når du ikke bruker dem. Skru av tven (men ikke kjøleskapet!). Kjør mindre bil. Gå eller bruk sykkelen oftere. Plugg ledninger inn i grenuttak. La solen varme opp rom istedenfor å skru på varmen. Kjør en liten bil for å bruke mindre bensin. Plant trær for å hjelpe rengjør luften på jorden. Kjøp mat som vokser nærme hjemmet. Så lastebiler ikke bruker bensin på å kjøre den langt. Lag en hage. PROBLEM: FOR MYE SØPPEL Søppeldynger er dårlige for jorden, luften og vannet. Plastsøppel er farlig for dyr. HVA FOLK KAN GJØRE Plukk opp søppel. Resirkuler plast, glass og papir. Ikke putt datamaskiner, tver eller mobiltelefoner i søppelet. Bruk tøyposer istedenfor plastikkposer. Bruk ting lenge før du kjøper nye ting. Kjøp kun det du trenger. Gi vekk det du ikke trenger slik at andre kan bruke det. Å JOBBE SAMMEN Snakk med vennene dine og familien din om å hjelpe jorden. Jobb sammen for å fikse jordens problemer. Vi kan ha et rent, friskt hjem. Planter og dyr kan ha et rent, friskt hjem også. ----Formal English---- TAKING CARE OF EARTH OUR HOME Earth is our home. When Earth is clean and healthy, people are healthy. Plants and animals are healthy, too. We get everything we need from Earth. Our food, homes, tools, and clothes come from Earth. We must take care of Earth so it can keep giving us these things. Earth has some problems. We can help fix Earth’s problems. PROBLEM: NOT ENOUGH WATER We need fresh water to live. Fresh water falls from the sky as rain or snow. We get fresh water from rivers, lakes, and the ground. There is not enough fresh water. WHAT PEOPLE CAN DO Turn off water when you brush your teeth. Take short showers. Fix faucets if water is dripping. Water the lawn less often. PROBLEM: DIRTY AIR When we turn on the TV, we use power. Using lots of power makes Earth’s air dirty. When we drive, we use gas. Using lots of gas also makes Earth’s air dirty. WHAT PEOPLE CAN DO Turn off lights when you leave a room. Put computers to sleep when you are not using them. Turn off the TV (but not the fridge!). Ride in cars less. Walk or ride your bike more. Plug cords into power strips. Let the sun warm up rooms instead of turning on the heat. Drive a small car to use less gas. Plant trees to help clean up Earth’s air. Buy food that grows close to home. Then trucks do not use gas to bring it from far away. Grow a garden. PROBLEM: TOO MUCH TRASH Trash dumps are bad for soil, air, and water. Plastic trash is a danger to animals. WHAT PEOPLE CAN DO Clean up litter. Recycle plastic, glass, and paper. Noen av disse dyrene var enorme! Mennesker har visst om dinosaurer siden 1800-tallet. Siden da har folk ønsket å lære mer. Vi vet om dinosaurer fordi vi har funnet fossiler. Noen fossiler er bein, tenner og andre kroppsdeler gjort om til stein. Andre fossiler er ting som fotspor, reir og egg. Fossiler kan hjelpe oss lære om kroppene og livene til dinosaurer. HVA SLAGS DYR? Dinosaurer er del av en stor dyregruppe som heter reptiler. De fleste reptiler idag har tørr, skallet hud. Under dinosaurenes tid var det noen reptiler som ikke hadde skjell. De hadde fjær! Dinosaurer gikk på en annen måte fra dagens reptiler. La oss sammenligne en øgle og en dinosaur. Øglens bein stikker ut på sidene. Dinosaurens bein er under kroppen. HVOR DINOSAURENE LEVDE Dinosaurer levde på alle kontinenter. Noen typer dinosaurer levde på mange forskjellige steder. Andre typer levde bare noen få steder. Når dinosaurene levde var alle kontinentene nærme hverandre. Det var lettere å komme seg fra et kontinent til et annet. Vitenskapsfolk som studerer dinosaurer heter paleontologer. De har funnet hundrevis av typer dinosaur. Noen dinosaurer er kjent fra bare noen få bein. Andre har blitt funnet med mesteparten av skjelettet sitt. Paleontologer plasserer dinosaurer i en av to grupper basert på hoftene deres. Øgle-hoftede dinosaurer har hoftebein som moderne øgler. Fugle-hoftede dinosaurer har hoftebein som fugler. La oss lære om dinosaurene i hver gruppe. ØGLE-HOFTEDE DINOSAURER Den mest kjente dinosauren er Tyrannosaurus rex eller T. rex. Denne gigantiske kjøtteteren hadde sterke bakbein og en lang, sterk hale. Frambeina var bittesmå. Ingen vet hva T. rex brukte dem til. T. rex hadde en tjukk, tung skalle. Bittet var det sterkeste til noen landdyr noensinne. Munnen var full av store tenner. Fortennene var for å ta tak i og dra. Sidetennene rev kjøtt og baktennene kuttet opp kjøttet. T. rex spiste for det meste store, planteetende dinosaurer. Det jaktet noe av maten sin. Det spiste også dyr som allerede var døde. Mer enn femti T. rex skjelett har blitt funnet. Det største er på utstilling i Chicago. Velociraptor var en annen kjøtteter. Denne dinosaurer var mye mindre enn T. rex. Det var forskjellig på en annen måte også. Det hadde fjær! Derimot var armene for korte for å fly. Det hadde lang hale og en stor klo på hver bakfot. Brachiosaurus hadde en veldig lang nakke. Forbeina var lengre enn bakbeina. (Brachiosaurus betyr "arm øgle.") Denne dinosauren var en løveter. En voksen Brachiosaurus spiste mer enn 360 kilo løv hver dag. FUGLE-HOFTEDE DINOSAURER Triceratops var en planteeter med et digert hode. Det hadde tre horn og en beinete "krage" eller "rysj". Hornene ble lengre ettersom dinosauren ble eldre. Triceratops brukte hornene sine til å sloss mot andre dinosaurer, blant annet T. rex. Ankylosaurus hadde rustning på toppen av kroppen sin. Rustningen var laget av beinete plater og knokler som vokste på huden. Ankylosaurus hadde også horn på hodet sitt og en klubbe på halen. Denne planteeteren var halvparten så lang som en skolebuss. Stegosaurus var en annen beskyttet planteeter. Det hadde et lite hodet med brede plater som stod opp fra ryggen. Tuppen av halen hadde pigger. Paleontologer tror at Stegosaurus brukte den piggete halen sin for å holde fiender borte. Shantungosaurus var en type hadrosaur eller ande-nebbet dinosaur.
