Calm down, it's all going to be OK... There's even more to talk about than usual this week as details of The Lost Shores hit and sent ripples of rage through the message boards. Ascended gear is the big point of contention. Is this the beginning of a gear grind? Is ArenaNet really dipping its toe in the water of vertical progression? We talk it through and ask is gear progression really so bad? The new dungeons Fractals of the Mists sounds fascinating. This time challenged dungeon progresses in difficulty the more you complete it. Is this a never ending experience? The Temple of the Silent Storm brings Kodan into PvP, on an iceberg! It's the setting we hoped for in a previous episode. We talk about what information has been gleaned so far. The event kicks off on Friday, November 16. Just what can we expect? And is having the one time element of the event on Sunday enough to answer the whiners? Most likely, no. With viewer questions there's a lot for our crew to chew over. GAMEBREAKER's Gary Gannon joins Richie Procopio and Elisabeth Cardy of Massively, along with Scott Hawkes of ZAM for this week's GuildCast!
Hawks and Yeti's ohh my! Scott and Richie are on holiday so Gary and Elizabeth hold down the fort and cover the latest and greatest Guild Wars 2 news. Topics on this weeks show include: The Lost Shores...What Could It Be? New Gem Store Items Does Stat Respecing Cross The Line? Why Are There No Mounts In GW2?
Feeling lucky? If you're one of the many people who have been buying Black Lion keys, then probably not. The low drop rate and dice rolling of RNG has meant some people have blown a whole lot of cash in the gem store to end up with not a lot in the way of Halloween goodies. Did you get a chainsaw sword skin on your first try? If so, don't mention it to Elisabeth. We look at the controversy and whether the response by ArenaNet is up to par. Whether this aspect of the festivities has left you pulling your hair out, there's no doubt there's a lot of content strewn across Tyria to sink your sweet tooth into. We talk about just what is available and whether we're getting indigestion from all the candy corn -- seriously, does anyone actually eat that vile stuff? Patch notes arrive with the regularity of Gary's troll videos and this week is no exception -- in either case. Karma rewards were added. Is this a good thing? Is the dance I just had to do at the mere mention of it an indication? There's a skritt burgular on the loose. Yes, a burgular. Don't ask questions. Before we get lost in theft and too many vowels, we talk about just what has landed in Guild Wars 2 with this new patch beyond all the spooky goings on. Class tweaks and changes have arrived, particularly for all you Elementalists out there. Guardian's also saw some adjustments, will I explode into a fiery rage? It is Wednesday after all... Throw in viewer questions and that's a whole lot of show to take care of. Joining GAMEBREAKER's Gary Gannon are Richie Procopio, Massively's Elisabeth Cardy and ZAM's Scott Hawkes for a troll dancing episode of GuildCast!
In this week's episode of GuildCast our hosts talk about some insane individual getting the first underwater legendary weapon, Halloween costumes in the gem shop and why Peter Fries thinks too many people are playing human characters. Join GAMEBREAKER's Gary Gannon and Massively's Richie Procopio and Elisabeth Cardy for all this and more.
Only one more GuildCast until launch! After this one that is. We're drawing ever closer to headstart and thoughts lead us to what we will be doing at that highly anticipated moment. Will you be packing your loved ones onto a bus tour for a week? Will you be unleashing that long stored up illness -- after the mad race to get to the manager's office before the rest of your suddenly sick colleagues? Or will you be here watching us crazy folk entertain you with our own fevered anticipation? In any case, better be sure on your times because ArenaNet let slip that we might be running amok in Tyria just a little earlier than we thought... The server list is up! Where will you be going for launch? How important is it that the official list is finally available for all to peruse? Do I seem to be asking more questions than usual? I'll calm down now. Oh Blizzard, you sly dog. In a move that shocked the world -- the world being Mars and even Curiosity knew this one was coming -- the pre-expansion Patch 5.0.4 for Mists of Pandaria is being released on the same day as Guild Wars 2's official launch: August 28. Will this hinder Guild Wars 2's thunderous opening? We ponder the possibilities. You want stress tests? We got stress tests! It feels like Guild Wars 2 has been stressed more than my belt after a pizza buffet in the last week or so. We talk about our experiences. And with that we come to our selection of audience questions. Thank you for sending them in and sorry that we can't get to them all. Keeping it together -- barely -- are GAMEBREAKER's mighty Gary Gannon, Massively's inimitable Richie "Bogotter" Procopio and awe-inspiring Elisabeth Cardy, as well as ZAM.com's barely sane Scott Hawkes. Are you ready? Well we certainly are, it's this week's GuildCast!
Do you like parkour and walking over hot coals? If so, then the live action launch trailer that ArenaNet released for Guild Wars 2 must have been very pleasing for you. To say reactions have been mixed to the promo is a massive understatement. What did the GuildCast crew think of the video and the response to it? We've got patch notes! Yes this means Guild Wars 2 is just like many other MMOs in that respect -- even the ones you pay a monthly sub for -- in that fixes and tweaks continue on with the regularity of a metronome. Guardians were adjusted -- Scott tries not to cry -- as were a few other professions, but who cares? They're not Guardians. All kidding aside, we look at what changes were made, including the exploit-crushing limitation on glory. Now you get a shiny achievement when you hit the cap, but just what good are achievements anyway? You can craft straight from the collections tab in your bank. How much does that rock? It rocks a lot. With discovery soon to be added to the bank/tradeskill magic we talk about the crafting system as a whole and how it contrasts to those in other MMOs. No longer can you buy your butter with Karma, now it drops as easy as it spreads with Sohothin. Are you swimming in butter? And where do you keep it? Apparently there's some myths to be busted. The forums are fully fleshed out and open for business. Are they up to the standard we would expect from ArenaNet? We also have your viewer questions to round off another intriguing week in Tyria. Join GAMEBREAKER's Gary Gannon, Massively's Elisabeth Cardy and Richie "Bogotter" Procopio -- HAPPY BIRTHDAY -- along with ZAM's Scott Hawkes for this week's GuildCast!
Welcome to a new era. This is the first GuildCast with Guild Wars 2 out live and for all to dive into. The game most of us have been waiting for with hand-wringing impatience finally launched Friday night -- for the Pacific folks at least -- and we jumped in with the gusto you would expect. After the launch party, we went our separate ways and explored. Dynamic events, personal story, leveling curve, tradeskills and so much more are captivating many people. We give our take on the world that ArenaNet built. There are already a number of level 80s roaming around, just how far did our hardened band of MMO buccaneers get? And with this game, does it really matter? There's certainly no doubt that the experience of headstart varied wildly from person to person. There have been and continue to be issues with the game related to the highly successful launch. Over 400,000 concurrent users this weekend explains the massive strain put on the Guild Wars 2 servers. We look at just what has been going on and how ArenaNet has responded. We rate the initial live experience for us as individuals. Do you agree with our ratings? Let us know below. There are some interesting viewer questions to round off a show full of the joys of launch. With GAMEBREAKER's Gary Gannon are ZAM's Scott Hawkes, Massively's Elisabeth Cardy and Richie "Bogotter" Procopio. It's the number one Guild Wars 2 show on the 'net! It's GuildCast!
The first full week is done, where does the game stand? Orr is apparently untroubled by our crew of misfits, with PAX — and its many odors — getting in the way for half of the team, just what levels have they reached? The Trading Post exists — see, told you it did — and is finally up and running for everyone to use. Just how good is it? Was it worth the wait? We talk about some of the fun things you can do with the Trading Post in Guild Wars 2 and how we think it stacks up.
The three little words that Guild Wars 2 fans are happy to hear: "Two more days." Amazingly, this is the very final GuildCast... before launch -- sorry couldn't resist -- and there's plenty to chew on. A mighty six hour stress test went on yesterday. The two hour extension being a pleasant bonus for many, particularly as there was a bunch of new stuff to play around with. How did your stress test go? Players everywhere became dancing, dancing, dancing machines with the new emotes. From the Haka to the LMFAO dance, characters could be seen getting down with their bad selves all across Tyria. Was it a nimble-footed phenomenon? Or were pairs of two left feet being stomped on? There was also the awesome reveal that the watery fourth sPvP was up and running. What did the gang think of the combative addition? The Twilight Arbor was unveiled thanks to a recent PC Gamer video, mild spoilers were present for the ongoing story of Destiny's Edge -- Logan and Rytlock sitting in a tree, W H I N I N G --and we got a look at what to expect in the level 50 dungeon. Does it look as impressive as the Ascalonian Catacombs? We have a happy bunch of viewer's questions to answer, in addition to all our musings on the last week. Filling in the boxes we have GAMEBREAKER's Gary Gannon, the repository of precociousness Richie "Bogotter" Procopio and the definition of effortless elan Elisabeth Cardy -- both of Massively -- for this week's GuildCast!
Stress, stress, stress. That's probably how you're feeling as the countdown to the Guild Wars 2 headstart continues inexorably. It's also apparent that ArenaNet needs to apply the pressure to the servers with the stress tests lately. One last week, another tomorrow, can we take any more of it? Deep breaths. Mike Zadorojny spoke to GameTrailers about the Fields of Ruin. This area is seeped in lore due to the history of the Ebonhawke through Guild Wars and GW2. We talk about just why this place is so important and what you can expect to bump into there in just a couple of weeks. We've been waiting to see what the apps for Guild Wars 2 would look like and it appears we'll be waiting quite a bit longer. ArenaNet stated that the app and web development team will be going into overdrive after launch. Throw in a gentle sprinkling of your viewer questions and we have a lot to cover. The crew is back in full force this week, so join GAMEBREAKER's Gary Gannon, Massively's Richie "Bogotter" Procopio and Elisabeth Cardy, as well as ZAM.com's Scott Hawkes for this week's GuildCast!
It looks like we'll get a sweet slice of Tyria early. ArenaNet announced that there will be another stress test for Guild Wars 2 on August 2 -- I hope you didn't miss it. In other news, the fabulously named Mike Zadorojny has been answering questions about the content that so many are waiting to get their hands on with abandon in just a few weeks. Just what does he mean by "mini-dungeons?" It also seems that the much anticipated water-themed fourth sPvP map is not as definite as we may have thought. Are bets being hedged or is it off the table at launch? We consider the likelihood as well as consider the perception of future content for the non-subscription MMO. The inestimable Mike Schaffnit took the premise of "No Holy Trinity" and tested it out with a crew in Ascalon Catacombs. Could a DPS focused group pull off a dungeon and prove ArenaNet's dynamic combat claims? We consider the run and what it means as GW2 looms ever nearer. We received some truly awesome viewer questions this week, including one that blew GuildCast's mind... Join GAMEBREAKER's Gary Gannon, Scott Hawkes and Massively's Richie "Bogotter" Procopio for a sinisterly sensational edition of GuildCast!
It's so close you can touch it, smell it and generally dribble over it. The Guild Wars 2 BWE3 hits this weekend, the final dash of content, the last appetizer before we get the full meal of launch -- OK now I'm hungry. ArenaNet released more details about what we can expect this weekend, so not only will Rata Sum and The Grove be inundated with wide eyed players, there are also other fresh reasons to go romping through Tyria. We take a look at where we all might be bumping into each other. Who are the Skritt? Why are they holed up in the awesomely named Skrittsburgh? We talk lore and more about this ratty but interesting race. How good was the live streamed TAD Q&A last week? Legendary is the word on most people's lips. The weapon dubbed "The Terminator Hammer," the night/day greatswords of epicdom and My Little Longbow were announced. Have ArenaNet struck the right chord or will legendaries be an epic headache? Orr sounds like the jewel in Guild Wars 2's endgame. We look at what it entails and why 80 might just be the level to be. We answer your viewer questions of course, which uncover the uncomfortable truth that following Yeti hunters can be bad for your sanity. Also, keep an eye out for that spangly code to give you extra chances at winning the GAMEBREAKER Guild Wars 2 CE competition. The squares are full, so join GAMEBREAKER's Gary Gannon, the returning Scott Hawkes, Massively's Richie "Bogotter" Procopio and Elisabeth Cardy for this week's GuildCast!
Call your doctor, book the babysitter and stock up on snacks. The official launch date for Guild Wars 2 was announced! When the initial jump up and down joy of the date subsided, there's some rather tremendous stuff to see in that teaser trailer, what grabbed your attention? With only one BWE to go, could we see the Asura and Sylvari? Could ArenaNet be crazy/gutsy enough to keep something back for launch, or would it just cause a massive headache? We discuss the possibilities. Jon Peters and Eric Flannum have been dropping some up to date info in some recent interviews on a range of subjects. There's a lot of insight into where the dev team is in regards to the move towards launch and some of the changes we are likely to see in the next beta weekend. We pick out the highlights. Then it's time to hang on to your hats, because some vitriol is going to fly! We discuss guilds and just how well put together they are for Guild Wars 2. With such an otherwise polished game, do guilds stand out like a sore thumb or are they working as intended? Prepare for some highly animated -- and heavily caffeinated -- debate as at least one of our crew is distinctly displeased with certain aspects of the guild system. Launch time is nearing and anticipation is frenzied, so join GAMEBREAKER's Gary Gannon, Scott Hawkes, Massively's Richie "Bogotter" Procopio and Elisabeth Cardy for a tumultuous episode of GuildCast!
Our team of experts from gaming media is confident in the quality Guild Wars 2; not to mention they are extremely excited for the game to launch. And Dylan Tehrani and Shawn Schuster from Massively, are here to share their excitement with you and host Gary Gannon on GuildCast!
Hype still holds people fixated to ArenaNet's latest venture into the MMO world. Everyone feels the pressure to play Guild Wars 2. And why not? It holds nearly everything an MMO gamer is looking for: easy-to-join PvP, a dynamic world, and -- just discovered this week -- an auction house that appears to rival the best of them. Elisabeth, can you tell us more about that? No? An NDA? I see; well, maybe we can convince to talk about it during the show. Hopefully, you have been following all the Guild Wars 2 coverage here on GAMEBREAKER. If not, then you have missed out. However, do not fret; our auspicious panel rounds up this week's highlights for you. Guest host Mike Schaffnit convinced two of Massively's GW2 experts to join him -- Elisabeth Cardy and Shawn Schuster -- in a discussion we call GuildCast!
Breaking news from the world of Guild Wars 2, our very own co-host and Community Manager at Massively Rubi Bayer took a job at ArenaNet. She moves on to be a part of the community team there. Congratulations to her; it was amazing having her on the show.
By now, you have caught up on the news that Guild Wars 2 will be sending out beta invites to press in February and to the rest of the world in March and April. Hopefully, GAMEBREAKER is on the short list to receive invites, but what does that mean for you? Well, ArenaNet President Mike O'Brien says that this means that the game will release sometime this year. However, it does not really mean open-beta in March, but it's Shawn Schuster's speculation that it will be similar to the way that BioWare handled the Star Wars: The Old Republic beta: You get a beta key; you get a beta key; everybody gets a beta key! But Shawn's epic beard disagrees.
