Here's the most recent episode of our normally Patreon-exclusive Jason & Karen Show podcast. Karen and I are both longtime fans of Star Trek: The Next Generation and we were excited to talk about the new series Star Trek: Picard. We spent about half of it reminiscing about Next Generation :) But even if you're not into Star Trek, skip ahead to hear us shamelessly judge a bunch of random things, many of them submitted by you guys this time, plus a particularly fun Stuff That's Great segment, and a pop-up topic from Meagan Gushulak. Enjoy! This podcast is made possible by listeners like you (and you too) who have supported us at patreon.com/jasonandkaren. If you feel inspired, I totally appreciate the support, and as a bonus if you pledge at $5, you get every existing episode of the Jason & Karen Show plus all future eps as long as you pledge. If you'd like to give us a call, you can call us at (650) 485-3323 or email brains@podcastica.com. Look for us on Facebook at facebook.com/deadcast and on Twitter at twitter.com/jasonandkaren. Some amazing video games came out in the 2010s and Ben Beck of Next Level Radio is with me to count down our top 10 games of the decade -- plus games we're curious about but didn't get around to playing, and games we're looking forward to. And, Skydance Interactive is about to put out The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners, an incredible looking VR game set in a flooded post-apocalyptic New Orleans, where you get to play out your fantasies of what you'd actually do in the ZA. I think you're really going to enjoy the conversation I had about the game with creative director Adam Grantham (starts at 1:37:58). For the trailer and more information on The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners, go to vrwalkingdead.com. For more of Ben's podcasts, check out nextlevelradioonline.com. And now for something completely different: This episode I'm so very pleased to talk with two amazing friends who I've met through my involvement with TWD, Walking Dead novelist Jay Bonansinga and Clementine voice actress Melissa Hutchison! We talk all about how being involved in the world of The Walking Dead has impacted our lives, among other things. And to continue the theme of being a fan of TWD and then getting involved to a greater level, I talk with author Neil Cohen about his book Business Is Dead: Resurrecting Entrepreneurship Through the Fan-Focused Venture. You'll learn about a varied group of people who've each turned their Walking-Dead-related hobby or passion into a business. Plus we talk a little about Neil's zombie novel trilogy inspired by his experience working in government agencies supporting emergency management and counterterrorism. You can find links to all Neil's books at businessisdead.com. This podcast is made possible by listeners like you (and you too) who have supported us at patreon.com/jasonandkaren. One of my all-time favorite TV shows (maybe my very favorite) is AMC's Breaking Bad, so I was stoked to hear creator/showrunner Vince Gilligan was releasing a sequel movie, called El Camino, on Netflix. This week Rima, Dianna, and I cover the movie. Church! Note: We had a few audio problems (some clips and crackles) early on, but it smooths out pretty quick so hang in there. This podcast is made possible by listeners like you (and you too) who have supported us at patreon.com/jasonandkaren. On the next episode of the Patreon-exclusive Jason & Karen Show podcast we're covering the classic National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, which I love and Karen will be seeing for the first time. Intense episode this week. Though the Whisperers suffer a loss, I feel like their plan to chip away at the foundation of Alexandrian society is succeeding, and our friends are shaken, paranoid, fearful, and ready to go off like a loaded gun. Lucy and I had an fun, interesting, in-depth talk about it all. Enjoy! This podcast is made possible by listeners like you (and you too) who have supported us at patreon.com/jasonandkaren. Thank you for the support guys. It's truly appreciated. In the most recent episode of the Patreon-exclusive Jason & Karen Show podcast, Karen and I covered Doctor Sleep and escape rooms. My obstinate denial served me well this episode because I got one hell of a surprise at the end :) Lucy and I really enjoyed this ep, and Cindi joins me for a quick Comic Talk. Loving how great TWD has been! It makes it so much more fun to podcast about. Enjoy! On another note, I've been watching and podcasting on The Mandalorian, the first ever live-action Star Wars TV series, and it's SO GREAT! I'm loving it and I highly recommend it. It's the Star Wars thing we've been looking for. If you're watching, be sure to check out our coverage at House Podcastica: The Mandalorian Edition, hosted by Jason, Rich, and Chris. Mazel Tov, a pretty good episode this week, about the tradition, ritual, faith, and the stresses of being on the road, with an interesting new actor, and some great zombie scenes. AMC's The Walking Dead, and also this podcast, owe their existence to the Walking Dead comic, and so the sudden ending of that comic about a month ago marks a huge moment for all of us WD fans. Join Lucy, Derek, and me as we mark the occasion by talking to the one and only Charlie Adlard, illustrator of The Walking Dead comic! As illustrator, Charlie has been a crucial and enormous factor in how The Walking Dead turned out (both the comic and the show). We talk with Charlie about: His thoughts about the plot of the final issue and how things ended for all the characters. Inking the final issue himself. How he feels now that it’s over. Keeping the fact that the book was ending a surprise, and doing fake preview covers to help with that. Who was hardest and easiest to draw aged up in the final issue. Whether he’s ever thought about going back and redrawing the first six issues. Whether he’ll do more Walking Dead comics. What's next for Charlie. Plus a lot more. Look for Charlie's next comic, Vampire State Building, in comic shops in the US on Sep 18 (and available in France now). https://www.previewsworld.com/Catalog/JUL191360 This podcast is made possible by listeners like you (and you too) who have supported us at patreon.com/jasonandkaren. Our third annual Comic-Con and WD trailer extravaganza, and damn there was a ton of stuff that came out of Comic Con this year, a lot of it really interesting. Maybe this year I finally picked some things to talk about that'll end up being good.... Anyway, join me, Rima, and Shawn as we talk about the TWD/FTWD trailers, news, and all the pop-culture goodness that we're excited about.   Cnet did a great thing and put all the trailers that came out of Comic-Con on a single web page here. Highly recommend checking it out! https://www.cnet.com/news/every-comic-con-san-diego-2019-trailer-scary-stories-to-tell-in-the-dark-picard-the-witcher-rick-and-morty-cats-top-gun-it-2/   This podcast is made possible by listeners like you (and you too) who have supported us at patreon.com/jasonandkaren. IMO this week's FTWD was one of the worst episodes of anything in the entire Walking Dead universe thus far. Stinker!! But I and guest hosts Pake and Megan make lemonade out of these sour lemons by suspending our usual habit of approaching the show from a place of appreciation and instead we have fun full-on thrashing it! (And okay, Pake and Megan actually managed to find a few good things too.) Hope you enjoy. Note: I (Jason) am considering finishing out the half-season on this show and then just doing one FTWD-related podcast every eight episodes. Then maybe we'll pick up a different show during the TWD hiatus, or cover movies. Let me know if you have thoughts about that. This podcast is made possible by listeners like you (and you too) who have supported us at patreon.com/jasonandkaren. Interesting episode, focused only on a couple of characters (and only one main FTWD character) and not furthering the FTWD plot along much, but definitely giving clues into an overarching TWD universe story. Here it is, the first episode of The Jason & Karen Show. We think it's delightfully random, and fun, and it's filled with stuff we're interested in, and nothing we're not. You guys said you'd listen to us talk about anything. Here you go! :) In this particular episode we talk about the freakin’ hilarious FX vampire comedy, What We Do in the Shadows, plus the Impossible Burger, Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland, Data-from-Star-Trek’s inability to use contractions, X-Men, our cats, the merits of death, and whether Columbine High should be torn down, among other things. Like any good potent dopamine booster, this first one is free. To hear subsequent episodes, you gotta sign up for Patreon at the $5 level or above at patreon.com/jasonandkaren. We'll have another episode out in a week or so covering the new Jim Jarmusch/Bill Murry zed movie, The Dead Don't Die (and other fun stuff). And to get serious for a second, this podcast is a patron exclusive as a thank you to all you guys supporting our podcasting, and as a perk to get more of you on board so we can keep doing it. So if you like what we're doing and think it's worth paying a bit for, we thank you for helping us continue on! Again, want more episodes? Or just want to help support our podcasting? Then go sign up at the $5 or higher level at patreon.com/jasonandkaren. Thank you! PS If you're looking for our Walking Dead 'Cast episode covering FTWD S5E2, it's in the feed right before this one. PPS Credit to Ben Beck for the idea for our Pop-Up Topic segment where we get a listener-submitted topic but we don't find out what it is until we're recording.

Attack of the toxic zeds this week, which sounds like a much more exciting concept than it ended up being (for a lot of us anyway). Rima and Jason did find a few things to like about the episode. Enjoy! PS You may have noticed the first episode of the Jason and Karen Show in your podcast feed. It's finally out! We had a lot of fun recording it, and playing around with different ideas. Hope you guys dig it :)   This podcast is made possible by listeners like you (and you too) who have supported us at patreon.com/jasonandkaren. As a big thank you/perk, upcoming episodes of The Jason & Karen Show will be available only to our patrons (who pledge at least $5/month). The Walking Dead game series originally by Telltale has wrapped, and I thought the final installment, detailing the end of Clementine's story, was intense, moving, fun, scary, emotionally gripping, and just a fantastic ending for the game. So good! I'm stoked to have my friend Melissa on to talk about it. We talked about: How Melissa feels now that the game is finished. Details of what happened with Telltale's collapse and how the game got finished after that. Behind-the-scenes info on the creation of the game. New experiences for Clementine in the game, like romance, acting as a parent (a role-reversal from the first season of the game), finding out first-hand what it would be like to be a whisperer, and a lot more Whether zombies still have souls? What Melissa would like to see for Clementine's future. Some great questions from you guys. Plus, we cover our top three non-pop-culture-related interests (we were both happy to discover we do actually have at least three). We're kicking off our coverage of the final season of Game of Thrones by cross-posting this episode of our GoT podcast, House Podcastica, here. I'm doing this mostly because a lot of you might be subscribed to our old GoT podcast, Game of Microphones, and didn't even realize we've moved, and I want as many of you as possible who want to be on board with us to be able to find us. If you want to hear the rest of our coverage for the season, you can find links to subscribe at housepodcastica.com.   You can also go to housepodcastica.com to find out how to enter our contest for a rare bottle of House Baratheon Royal Lochnager 12 YO whisky. Yumm! Hurry, only a few days left to enter.   ---   GoT is back! The final season of our beloved show begins with a phenomenal episode, with long-desired reunions, long-secret revelations, some startlingly creepy moments, and so much to unpack! Hard to believe they fit so much into this, the shortest episode of the season. For season 8 Jason and Kristin will be cohosting each episode together, and each week we'll be joined by a new third cohost from our amazing crew of Podcastica hosts. This week we've got the ever-charming and brilliant Lucy! A quick bonus ep for you guys, it's Matt Lintz aka Henry! As you guys all know, I've been rooting for Henry this season, and it was great to talk with Matt about his take on the character, Henry's frame of mind, and his motivations this season. I also asked him about what it's like being in a family with two other actors from The Walking Dead, and much more! My biggest regret: I forgot to ask for his zombie sound! Okay, I'm a little rusty. Next time, I promise :)

John Jason, Rich, and Chris (yep, it's an Evil Dead 'Cast reunion!) for our surprisingly diverse lists of top five favorite TV shows from the last 10 years. There's been an explosion of TV content in recent years, and so it was a challenge for us to come up with lists of our top five favorite shows from the last decade - so we cheated by having tons of Honorable Mentions :) Plus, some news, and your picks too. You can of course hear more of Chris on his Walking Dead podcast at talkingdeadpodcast.com. (And like a jerk I forgot to mention that in our end section. Rude!) When TWD is off air, Karen and I like to podcast about some of our other favorite things, and one thing we both love is Coen Brothers movies. We rank this latest one, The Ballad of Buster Scruggs (available on Netflix), right up there with the best! If you haven't seen it, you're missing out (but prepare to have your heart broken a couple of times). Intelligent, beautifully filmed, with the blackest of dark humor, the purest innocence and beauty, and everything in between. Plus, we cover news about TWD and pop culture, and talk Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse with special guest Nico Cabassi.   This podcast is made possible by listeners like you (and you too) who have supported us at patreon.com/jasonandkaren. Karen and I moderated Tom's first post-Jesus panel at Fan Fest/Walker Stalker San Jose this weekend, and it was a lot of fun. You'll hear his thoughts on whether Jesus might appear in a flashback, how to play dead, his perspective on Jesus' story arc, and much much more. We've talked with many of the WD actors after their exit from the show, and I have to say, Tom Payne's was unlike any of them. You'll see what I mean after you hear this episode. I was expecting to be paying my respects to Rick Grimes this week. Was going to start the podcast off with a sad song in honor of my favorite character passing on. What an unexpected (at least for me) twist! Holy shit. I was blown away. I have mixed feelings, strong on both sides. Karen couldn't be here for this one, but we'll find out what she thinks next week. That said, I'm really glad Lucy was able to do this episode with me. And thanks for all your feedback! I knew it would be a big week for feedback :) You guys have strong feelings on both sides too. Hope you guys enjoy the podcast. And thank you SO MUCH to all you who vote today! Was this episode a delightful experiment in lightening the tone? A critical milestone in the development of Morgan's character? An introduction to some complex, layered new characters? FTWD is back and I'm looking at it as if it's a new show that happens to have the same name as that old show I liked (and a couple of similar characters...). Classic WDC fun this week as Jason and Karen laugh our way through a dissection of the disturbing, creepy-ass movie, Hereditary (in theaters now). We had a few complaints, but mostly we really liked this movie and recommend you check it out if you like scary movies. We have a cool initiative brewing for some of you guys, the Podcastica Culture Club. I have some ideas, and I need your help to know where to focus, and to gauge interest. So, if you could take a minute to fill out a survey about it, I'd be grateful. It's at walkingdeadcast.com/survey. Thanks! To be honest, I'm a little burnt out on zombies, so we wouldn't just be covering any old zed movie during the hiatus - but Cargo, the Australian zombie movie starring Martin Freeman and a baby, based on the 7-minute short film of the same name that Karen and I covered and liked several years ago, is good! I recommend checking it out. It's available on Netflix. I think most Walking Dead fans will dig it. Then join me, Rima, and Shawn for our coverage. Plus, Rima and Shawn announce the next show they'll be covering on Strange Indeed. I'm starting up a new initiative. I think it's going to be called the Podcastica Culture Club, and it'll have a bunch of cool perks. I have a lot of ideas, but I need your help to know where to focus, and to gauge interest. So, if you could take a minute to fill out a survey about it, I'd be grateful. It's at walkingdeadcast.com/survey. Thanks!   Never been so happy to hear someone, like, say a sentence. In this ep, the troublemakers (Negan, Simon, and Jadis) all got more fleshed out (and zeds got ground up), and we were, on the whole, excited and interested to see that. Join Jason and guest Lucy from Scotland as we talk it out in full, complete sentences. Mostly. A packed and varied episode this week, with my and Nico's reviews of Black Panther, plus the return of Marc and Abi of Issimo from the UK! The three of us talk about the current state of The Walking Dead, mostly via haiku, and also a rousing discussion of the historical place of violence in the formation of civilized society and how that relates to TWD. Plus, we answer questions that Scott Gimple asked the fans, like whether we think the show portrays people as basically good or bad, what nightmares the show has given us, and which characters we identify with the most, among others. All that, plus a live performance of Let's Just Wait from Issimo's upcoming album, The Adventures of Issimo! You can preorder that album now by going to pledgemusic.com/projects/issimo. This podcast is made possible by listeners like you (and you too) who have supported us at patreon.com/jasonandkaren.
