The time after pregnancy is a period of great change for women. A woman has just given birth and is bringing a new baby home. She may have anxiety about the new baby or being a mother, she may feel exhausted after giving birth, and there are many hormonal changes that occur at this time. Many women have a period where they feel depressed and anxious after the birth of the baby.
When I entered my late 30s, I started to have weight gain (even though my eating habits hadn’t changed). Then I started to have trouble sleeping. And then later, my menstrual cycles became heavier, longer, and more painful. It didn’t know what was going on. If you are a woman between the ages of 35-50 and you start to have similar changes you may be entering perimenopause which is a time of hormonal change before meopause.
Handling Depression – Without Drugs
Depression is one the most common forms of mental illness. It is estimated that one out 4 people will suffer from depression at least once in their lifetime.
Some signs of depression are: loss of pleasure from favorite activities, sadness, fatigue, changes in weight or appetite, insomnia or oversleeping, and suicidal thoughts.
Often people can have depression from life events such as the death of a loved one or the end of a relationship. However, when it is more serious it requires treatment by a healthcare practitioner.
There are many ways to treat depression and I’m going to talk about non-drug treatments in this session.
