UK Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, has tested positive for COVID-19. According to his Twitter, he is self-isolating with mild symptoms. The United States has surpassed China and has the highest number of COVID-19 cases in the world with just under 86,000 and 1300 fatalities.   The House plans on voting on the 2 Trillion-dollar emergency relief bill today.  Detroit and Chicago are showing “a rapid increase in spread” according to a White House briefing.   The number of patients admitted to hospitals in New York jumped by 40% yesterday, notes The New York Times. A navy hospital ship will be deployed to NYC on Saturday. The Pentagon will work with a convention center in NYC to turn it in to a hospital by April 9th. In New Orleans, a convention center will also be used to house coronavirus patients. The Canadian Prime Minister confirmed that the US is requesting American troops be placed within 20 miles of the US-Canada border to help with border surveillance, relays CNN.

A nurse at New York’s Mount Sinai West has died due to the virus, in Spain, healthcare workers make up more than 10% of cases and in Italy, 37 doctors have died, reports The New York Times. The death toll in Spain increased nearly 20% yesterday, while the growth rate of cases slightly declined. Real Madrid announced they will use their stadium to store medical supplies, according to The Washington Post. Russia has crossed 1,000 cases, reporting 196 new cases Friday. More than 700 of those cases are in Moscow. China has closed its borders to foreign nationals and those with resident visas in an effort to stop a second wave of the virus there. Australia will ask the military to help enforce isolation orders.
