Thanks for tuning in everybody!   On this episode of the "Off the Island" series, I welcome Ryan Shmyr to the Penalty Box. The tale of Ryan's career is an interesting one. Fans are used to the bruising winger who'll drop the gloves to defend a teammate and score timely goals when the mitts stay on. What many fans may not know is that Ryan might have worn a completely different set of equipment had he not changed positions early in his career. Over the next three episodes you'll hear all about the hockey journey of Ryan Shmyr. (NOTE: This is the same episode as the previously released part five but without the closing theme from "the Incredible Hulk" which was flagged by Spotify. If you've already listened, thank you. If you haven't, here's another opportunity. Thank you.)   Thanks for tuning in everybody!   It's my extreme pleasure to welcome long-time friend, former Islanders defenseman and current Islanders Director of Player Development Eric Cairns to the Penalty Box. I was fortunate enough to first meet Cairnsy on the day he was drafted and he's continued to be a good friend to this day. After years of bugging him to do the show, I finally wore him down. Actually, as any Islanders fan know, the previous regime restricted folks like Eric from doing podcasts, etc so with the new regime in place, I'm able to present this in-depth conversation with the big fella. We'll cover his career from pre-OHL straight through to what's going on today. This is the finale, part five of a five-part series. Get comfortable.   I hope you people enjoy it!   If you have a moment, please rate & review the show. please tell your friends.   Please download, don't stream.   Social media links:  X Facebook Instagram TikTok   You can order "Islanders A-Z", a book illustrated by Joe Maracic, the artist who created the logo for this show, by clicking HERE   You can order my book "The New York Subway Hero: My Battle With Evil...and a Spree-Killer!!" by clicking HERE   Check out Buckets Off apparel   Check out Woody's Hoodies   Please take a moment to check out the GoFundMe for former Islander Iain Fraser & his family as he was recently diagnosed with ALS.
