Murphy and an accomplice, Alan Kuhn, head to New York City, where they decide to pull off what was at that time the largest jewel heist in American history — robbing the JP Morgan gem collection from the Museum of Natural History.
Jack Murphy, a childhood violin prodigy who played in symphony orchestras and earned a full scholarship for tennis to the University of Pittsburgh, drops out and heads to Florida. There, he quickly rises to the upper echelons of the booming sport of surfing, and earns his nickname – Murf the Surf. After a failed marriage, however, his mood turned south, and he made a decision to enter into a life of crime.
