Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles / Ghostbusters summary: “When a new invention goes haywire, the Turtles are sent to a whole new type of New York City. One with a whole lot more ghosts... and Ghostbusters! The two teams will have to learn to get along quickly, because a new foe from the Turtles past has followed them and aims to conquer NYC!” After last week’s dense discussion about gods and magick we need something fun and easy to read this week! Enter Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles / Ghostbusters by IDW Comics! Tess is a huge TMNT fan and Corey is a massive Ghosthead so this comic was pretty much made for them! Needless to say, we have fun this episode ;) Follow us on social media and let us know what you think of the episode! Revel in the opulence of this oversized hardback! Revel in it! Collects THE WICKED + THE DIVINE #1-11” This week on the OCD Podcast Tess and Corey get real deep with The Wicked + The Divine: Book 1! Firefly, Volume 1 summary: “From Joss Whedon comes a new era of Firefly, as the definitive story of the Unification War is told at last! Captain Malcolm Reynolds thought he could outrun his past, but when a simple heist goes wrong, he’s forced to confront it. With the fabled Traitor of Serenity Valley in his sights, Mal’s quest for revenge will put him at odds with his own crew, forcing him to make a choice: fix the past or fight for the future. Along with Whedon, writer Greg Pak (Mech Cadet Yu, Totally Awesome Hulk, Weapon X) and artist Dan McDaid (Judge Dredd: Mega City Zero) take you back to the battleground where it all began...and reveal a secret history that might end it all.” This week we are joined again by special guest, John Speas from the Blast From Our Past podcast to talk about Firefly Vol 1 by BOOM! Studios! This episode works as a part 2 of sorts to co-host Tess’ guest spot on John’s podcast where they reviewed the Firefly TV show and Serenity! You should definitely give that a listen too. Oh, and just a heads up: We plan on reviewing the other volumes in this series with John over the course of 2020! When two soldiers from opposite sides of a never-ending galactic war fall in love, they risk everything to bring a fragile new life into a dangerous old universe. Vaughn and Fiona Staples! Don’t worry, Corey will be back next week! This episode was his birthday present from Tess so he could have the weekend off for his birthday! This week on the OCD Podcast Tess and Corey review Harley Quinn Vol. 1: Hot in the City by Amanda Conner, Jimmy Palmiotti, and Chad Hardin! This week on the OCD Podcast Tess and Corey review The Ultimates: Ultimate Collection by Mark Millar and Bryan Hitch! This includes the first two trades, The Ultimates Vol. 1: Super-Human & Vol 2: Homeland Security. Not only is this an origin story for the Ultimate Universe Avengers but it’s also sort of an origin story for the Marvel Cinematic Universe because (as we discuss in the episode) Marvel Studios used a lot of elements from these two stories to craft Phase One and Phase Two of the MCU! It was really fun to go back and see what they used and what they left out from The Ultimates template (Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury comes directly from this series)! This week on OCD Podcast we review the Geoff Johns 6 issues series, Superman: Secret Origin! Corey picked this for Tess to read because it’s a great retelling of the classic Kal-El/Clark Kent origin story with an added bonus of Gary Frank making Supes look like Christopher Reeve! Even if you know Superman’s origin like the back of your hand, this mini-series is still worth checking out! Corey and Tess absolutely loved it! In the final episode of 2019 (we’ll be on hiatus for Christmas week) Tess and Corey dive into the DC Universe Holiday Special 2009 edition! Why this particular year, you ask? To be honest, it’s because they both had access to that issue lol. But because of that Tess learned about Huntress, who she very much digs! In keeping with our theme of the month - “Unconventional Families” - this week Tess and Corey discuss Batman and his Bat-Family! Since neither of the hosts claim to be the authority on everything Batman (you can find a million YouTube videos claiming this), they focus primarily on what the character(s) mean to them personally and how & when they first discover the caped crusader! We hope it provides a more intimate insight into Tess and Corey’s love for Batman and why the character is so endearing. We kick off our family themed month of November with the Grant Morrison/Frank Quitely three part mini series, We3. A story about a weaponized dog, cat, and rabbit as they search for their way home while being pursued by the military that made them.
