A Long Time Ago on Veronica Mars: Wallace is living his best life: crushing on a girl who just *happens* to need the services of a private detective, pretending to be a math nerd, and AT LONG LAST getting to go to a party. Gamer guys are running a massive scam from their college dorm room, with a complex front of dudes wearing baggy rumpled beige clothes. Veronica dug into her huge wardrobe of disguises! And a lot of those disguises are ‘hot girl’. Flashback limo party, present-day college party: which is cooler? A: any party with Lilly Kane at it would be way cooler than a culturally appropriative hat party. And Veronica swam amongst the memories of homecoming dances past before finally going skinnydipping IRL, in the present. Join Jenny Owen Youngs and Helen Zaltzman to investigate Veronica Mars Season 1 Episode 4: The Wrath of Con, and delve into such mysteries as why you would let Veronica Mars anywhere near your big drawer of keys, whether Duncan’s denim blazer is formal or informal, how to pronounce ‘wrath’, and where on earth the Marses store their huge range of disguises and gadgets. A Long Time Ago on Veronica Mars: A squeaky little freshman hired Veronica to help find his missing father; Duncan threw his medication down the drain, with hallucinatory results; Keith developed a crush on Veronica’s guidance counsellor; and things heated up between Veronica and the supposedly sexy and charming Troy, but still aren’t as hot as her hot’n’heavy Duncan flashbacks. Join Jenny Owen Youngs and Helen Zaltzman to investigate Veronica Mars Season 1 Episode 3: Meet John Smith, and ponder such mysteries as whether or not it’s creepy that Keith used his PI Powers to track down his crush to her regular coffee shop; how Veronica can even pretend to enjoy Troy’s prank tales; and whether the writers knew what they were doing with Duncan, or just threw dice at the beginning of each of his scenes to decide whether to go with ⚁ silent but helpful Duncan, ⚂ milky Duncan, ⚄ sardonically-toasting-the-former-family-dog Duncan, or ⚅ one-man production of Grease Duncan. A LONG TIME AGO ON VERONICA MARS: Weevil & his grandma were both framed for credit card fraud; Logan was cheated on by Paris Hilton, but we are glad because he said some heinously classist & racist stuff in this episode; Some guy named Troy shows up and appears to be nice but says some rather douchey things; Keith singlehandedly caught an escaped felon; And Wallace just really wants to go to a party. Please let him go to a party, Veronica - any party! Join Jenny Owen Youngs and Helen Zaltzman to investigate Veronica Mars Season 1 Episode 2: Credit Where Credit's Due, and ponder such mysteries as whether Paris Hilton has ever ridden a scooter before, why Sheriff Lamb’s zingers are SO bad, and where do the other students relieve themselves when Veronica is using the school bathroom as her office. A LONG TIME AGO, ON VERONICA MARS: Wallace got duct taped to the school flagpole by Weevil; Keith inquired about the identity of your daddy; Logan smashed Veronica’s headlights with a crowbar; and Veronica tried to cram three episodes-worth of backstory about her murdered best friend, her missing mom and her social ostracism into forty minutes - in between staking out the Camelot Motel, framing Logan for having a bong on school grounds, colluding with the fire chief to swap out police evidence, and cutting Wallace down from that flagpole. She’s a busy kid. Also, Duncan… existed. Barely. Join Jenny Owen Youngs and Helen Zaltzman as they investigate Veronica Mars** Season 1 Episode 1: Pilot*, and ponder such mysteries as how to get duct tape off your bathing suit region, what happened to the original Backup, and how long it would *really take to get a bespoke ceramic bong made. This week’s inspirational line to put on a fridge magnet: “The thing that keeps us powering through life's defeats is our faith in a better life to come.”
