    I welcome back, a Family Physician, Speaker, and Author, Ken D Berry, MD. Ken was born in Linden, Tennessee, and grew up in the very small Southern town of Hohenwald, Tennessee.

    He received a Bachelor of Science degree, with honors, in Animal Biology and Psychology, from Middle Tennessee State University, in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, in 1996. He received his MD from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, in Memphis, Tennessee, in 2000.

    Ken has been practicing Family Medicine in rural Tennessee for over a decade. He is board certified in Family Medicine, and has been awarded the degree of Fellow, by the American Academy of Family Physicians.


    Having seen over 20,000 patients during his career of all ages, he is uniquely qualified to write on both acute and chronic diseases. More and more, Dr. Berry has focused on the chronic diseases caused by the Standard American Diet and Lifestyle, and has made it his mission to turn the tide on the epidemic of Type 2 Diabetes, chronic inflammation and dementia.

    Ken has four children, 3 dogs, 2 cats and 7 peacocks. He, and his beautiful wife Neisha, live on their farm in Holladay, TN.

    In this episode, Dr. Berry opens the show discussing the benefits behind lowering carbohydrate intake. Plus, he explains why you have skin tags and what you can do to get rid of them.     [00:50] Dr. Berry’s Favorite Tool

    • Lowering carbohydrates is Dr. Berry’s favorite tool. People will benefit from simply turning down the carbs.
    • Eat more meat! Even the cheapest processed meat will be better than eating carbs.
    • Meat is the powerhouse of nutrition.
    • If you can afford better quality meat, it will be like taking a multivitamin.
    • The vitamins and minerals in meat are hugely bioavailable and more easily absorbed.


    [09:30] What Do Skin Tags Mean?

    • There are rare genetics anomalies that can cause you to have lots of skin tags.
    • For the average person, a skin tag means you are hyperinsulinemia. This means excess levels of insulin are circulating in the blood relative to the level of glucose.
    • You will sunburn more easily and be more susceptible to skin cancer.
    • People who are keto for six months will realize that their skin tags are all gone.
    • Going keto will fix your hyperinsulinemia.


    [20:00] Why Keto is so Popular

    • There is not a multibillion-dollar corporation that is pushing keto.
    • People talk about how the keto lifestyle works for them.
    • Weight Watchers is full of processed food and leaves you hungry for hours. Keto is a grassroots movement.
    • Multiple corporations are trying to put out the keto fire.
    • We are all rediscovering the proper human diet. The bulk of your diet should be some type of fatty meat. You want a lot of fatty meat if you are going to be a healthy human being.
    • You can’t make billions of dollars from the proper human diet because it doesn’t consist of products. It consists of whole foods like meat, nuts, and vegetables.


    [24:00] Where Should You Start?

    • Three simple steps when starting out:
      • Get rid of all sugar from your diet.
      • Stop eating all grains.
      • Stop eating all industrial seed oils.
    • After cutting these three things, you can figure out what else will work best for you.
    • The next step is not to buy anything that has “keto” or “low-carb” in the name. You do not need these things to do low-carb or keto right. Keto is real and whole foods.


    [29:30] Getting Knocked Off Keto

    • Stop trusting keto products! Those people just want to make a lot of money. To make a product that is tasty, they are going to have to use net carbs.
    • Industrial seed oils are shelf-stable. They are terrible for your long-term health and nutrition.
    • Throw away your canola oil. It’s dangerous for human consumption.
    • You can start off doing keto really well. Then, you start to have little bites of carbs. However, those carbs will add up.
    • You do not need three meals and three snacks a day. Protein will elevate your insulin. Carbs will also raise your insulin. Do not bring your old eating habits to keto.
    • Fast for at least sixteen hours a day. Do not eat outside of your eight-hour eating window.


    [37:20] Our DNA is Wise and Intelligent

    • Our body does not need help or input. Our bodies just need us to not do stupid things.
    • Fasting is ancient! There is nothing new about it.
    • All major religions have some type of fasting involved.
    • Food corporations are not interested in talking about fasting because their profits will suffer during a fast.
    • Our bodies are ancient and intelligent. When our bodies are not eating, then we give our body time to repair.
