No one can fully prepare you to be a mother. You not only have to navigate the logistics of taking care of another human but you may also experience an array of emotions and internal battles that new mothers face. Postpartum depression is often experienced but not spoken about ...until now.

This week I had the honor of connecting with Samantha Sutherland  host of the Women at Work Podcast and a successful diversity and inclusion specialist who shares her intimate story of suffering from mental health issues while bringing her sweet boy into the world.

In this powerful conversation we talk about compound trauma and how that can affect mental illness. We also discuss things like sleep deprivation and the difficulty of struggling with feelings of no support. Samantha generously shares with us what she wishes she would have known all along and how important it is for us to seek the help that we need.

We also dive into the strain mental health issues have on marriages and intimate relationships. Samantha offers sound advice on how to not only support someone who is struggling but the importance of the caregiver to guard their own mental health in the process.

We hope this episode encourages you to get the help that you need if you are suffering with depression or other mental health challenges. There are many resources available and support. If we can help you in any way, please connect with us in our private Facebook group, Hope to Recharge, because as always... together is better.
