Our motto in the Powerhouse Women community is “you are not meant to do business (or life) alone” - and I believe that wholeheartedly. Community has been a critical part of growing our company, and there are three specific types of community that I think we all need around us if we’re going to make the impact we know we’re meant to make.    Today I’m breaking down all three, and how you can find each type of community if after listening to this you realize you’re missing one! When it comes to going after BIG ideas, do you ever get in your own way? It’s kind of a trick question because I think we all do in one way or another.    In my ten years as an entrepreneur I’ve had countless conversations with women who have big ideas and dreams, but struggle with the same fears and insecurities that I’ve dealt with too. I started to notice that almost everything that gets in the way of us taking action on our big ideas falls under one of four categories.    Today I’m going to break down what I believe are the four most common ways we get in our own way, and why I believe that the things that we consider our biggest “weaknesses” are actually indicators of our biggest STRENGTHS. Developing a healthy awareness of how you’re wired and strengthening your emotional intelligence are in my opinion two keys to being truly unstoppable in business or in life. You can read all the books and listen to all of the experts on these subjects, but the greatest teacher will always be our own life and experiences.    If you find yourself getting triggered from time to time, ESPECIALLY when you’re in a season of growth, then today’s episode is for you.   In this episode we talk about: The importance of emotional intelligence  Shifting your perspective for a happier outcome  Becoming aware of  your triggers  We would LOVE to know what you are taking away from this episode so take a screen shot, share it and tag me!   || CONNECT || instagram.com/powerhouse_women instagram.com/llindseyschwartz facebook.com/groups/powerhousewomencommunity www.powerhousewomen.co

YOU have a story worth sharing with the world. Not only is it worth sharing, it could be THE story that gives another person permission, inspires them to take their next step, or even saves their life--and our guest today lives her life to remind people of that truth.    I first met Jeanette LeBlanc through her WORDS (really I should say through her art) when I was gifted a card with a piece that she wrote entitled “You are not too much” - it left a lasting impact and is now one of MY favorite gifts to give others. I actually have her read for all of YOU in this interview!   Jeanette spent most of her life working very hard to be a good girl. One day she woke up and decided to write her way out of her own life - things haven’t been the same since.    In this episode we talk about: Why your story is worth sharing with the world  The power of understanding that you are not too much  Choosing not to ignore the signs that are leading you to your calling || CONNECT WITH JEANETTE || https://www.instagram.com/jeanetteleblanc/ https://www.facebook.com/jeanette.bursey.leblanc || CONNECT || instagram.com/powerhouse_women instagram.com/llindseyschwartz facebook.com/groups/powerhousewomencommunity www.powerhousewomen.co

I’ve talked to so many women who feel uncomfortable with SALES or promoting their products & services (I would know, I used to be one of them!). But if you’re going to get your message out into the world and make the impact you know you’re meant to make, then you’re going to have to SELL sister! And it doesn’t have to feel inauthentic or icky to do so.   I was teaching a group of fellow entrepreneurs about the strategy we have used to completely sell out the PW event every year for the past three years - and it occurred to me that this strategy could really be used to sell ANYthing! In this episode we talk about: How to sale without being salesy The promo process we are using to double ticket sales for the 2020 Powerhouse Women Event  Keeping people, and yourself, excited about what you are promoting  || CONNECT || instagram.com/powerhouse_women instagram.com/llindseyschwartz facebook.com/groups/powerhousewomencommunity www.powerhousewomen.co

I believe that our age isn’t so much a number, it’s a MINDSET. I haven’t talked a lot about this topic on the podcast before, but I’m always looking for and surrounding myself with examples of women who are challenging what society wants us to believe is possible in our 40s, 50s, 60s and beyond--women who are reinventing themselves, starting new businesses, going back to school (or performing hip hop choreography at NBA games...if you’ve heard me talk about my love for the Golden Grannies)   When I met today’s guest last fall I knew I had to have her on the podcast to talk about this exact topic. Helen Fritsch is a 62 year old life-long competitive athlete and flight attendant turned published fitness model, IFBB bodybuilding pro, and podcaster - who is on a mission to prove that AGE is irrelevant when it comes to pursuing our deepest goals, dreams, and desires. Have you ever let a challenge or a difficult experience in your life start to define WHO you are and how you see yourself? Our guest today knows a thing or two about that, and she’s now sharing her story in the bestselling book “New Again” in hopes of helping others find new perspective on life, and the inevitable challenges that come with it.   At the peak of the recession, Andy Ptacek co-founded a marketing company. 10 years and a thriving business later, Andy was diagnosed with brain cancer--what her first doctor called “IN-OPERABLE” brain cancer--at just 32 years old with 2 little boys at home.   Understandably, It rocked everything. First, in a scary way. Then, in a grateful way. The journey was agonizing at times, but perspective taught her that she wasn’t damaged. The experience actually grew her self-awareness, her ability to love, her patience, her worldview, and her faith.   The “old Andy” had grown into something new –something better– and she believes we all are capable of this, even without a massively traumatic experience to shake us awake.   In this episode we talk about: Choosing to pivot and why Andy started a business in the middle of a recession What Andy’s battle with brain cancer taught her about priorities and gratitude Learning to be “new again” after a traumatic experience Connect with Andy! instagram.com/andythenewgirl www.andythenewgirl.com Let’s connect! instagram.com/powerhouse_women instagram.com/llindseyschwartz facebook.com/groups/powerhousewomencommunity

The best business ideas are often born out of a desire to fulfill a need, and our guest today knows a little something about that.    Jessica McPhaul got her start making costumes for a small youth theatre in Arizona when she was 16.  A few years later, she moved to LA to attend fashion school and has been working steadily in film/tv ever since...including some shows that you’ve probably heard of including Dancing with the Stars and House of Cards.   Her fashion background, combined with a gap that she noticed in the industry, led to her launching not one but TWO different companies - Heywood and Ringo (the custom suit company she launched with her husband) and Naked Rebellion (the women’s intimate line with a shade of nude for every woman on the planet).   The stories behind these two companies are so cool and I can’t wait for you to hear them! And my hope is that today’s conversation will help get YOUR wheels turning, because there may just be a need that YOU could fulfill with your next big idea.   In this episode we talk about: How Jessica’s experiences working in fashion + costume design inspired the two businesses she started  The gap she noticed in the lingerie market that wasn’t meeting the needs of real women Using our purchasing power to support small business this holiday season!    Connect with Jessica! instagram.com/heywoodandringo instagram.com/naked.rebellion instagram.com/jesswengermcp   Custom suit company - heywoodandringo.com Lingerie line - shopnakedrebellion.com    Let’s connect! instagram.com/powerhouse_women instagram.com/llindseyschwartz facebook.com/groups/powerhousewomencommunity

Life as we know it can change in an instant - and that is exactly what our guest today experienced just over a year ago when a car accident changed the course of her career and life.    Dr Mallory Fox is the owner of Foxy FIT and co-owner of Baptiste Power Yoga Phoenix. She loves to serve her community through mindful movement and conscious connection. She is also a fellow Lululemon ambassador which is how we met, so it’s no surprise that she lists her addictions as “Lululemon and coffee”   Our intention is that today’s conversation offers hope to anyone else who may be healing from trauma, and that it would also serve as a reminder that, even if the attitude of “I’ll do it myself” has worked for you in the past (because for a lot of us, it has)...you can do so much more if you allow others to contribute to you, and remember that you are NOT meant to do life (or business) alone.    In this episode we talk about: Mallory’s journey recovering from a traumatic brain injury How the experience helped Mallory learn to ask for (and accept) help How allowing others to contribute actually fosters deeper connection with people   Connect with Mallory: instagram.com/drfoxyfit instagram.com/baptistepoweryogaphoenix   Donate to Love Your Brain (501c): https://give.classy.org/malloryandbrian   Let’s connect! instagram.com/powerhouse_women instagram.com/llindseyschwartz facebook.com/groups/powerhousewomencommunity

I wish I could tell you that I’ve always been naturally willing to play BIG and risk failure, that I’ve coached myself through my own limiting beliefs without any outside help, and that I’ve always had the grit to keep going in pursuit of a goal when everything in me wants to quit. Do you ever feel stuck or totally uninspired when you go to create content? I feel you girl...I mean, I wrote a whole book and I swear I get the worst writer’s block when it comes to writing an Instagram caption…   Well today we’re talking about how you can create the HABIT of feeling more inspired, by starting a daily writing practice. This has seriously changed my LIFE over the past few months and it has led to not only the inspiration behind podcast episodes and social media posts, but even some new ideas for businesses or passion projects that I want to start.    If you’ve been feeling stuck, or like you need a jolt of fresh inspiration, this episode is for you!   In this episode you will learn: How to create the HABIT of being inspired Some guidelines for creating a daily writing practice Some great writing prompts to get you started (listed below!)   My favorite writing prompts: What is the most interesting conversation you’ve had in the past week? What question have you been asked multiple times in the past month, or what theme do you notice showing up with the people in your life? What instagram post or story were you surprised that people seemed to really resonate with? What other details can you share on that topic? What have you felt challenged by lately, that others may be able to relate to? What is inspiring to you right now?  What is something you LOVE teaching others? Think back to a great podcast episode you heard recently and summarize the top 2-3 things you took away from it, in your own words When in doubt, do a Unicorn Brainstorming session!! There are so many powerhouse MOMS in our community, and if there is one theme I’ve heard almost every single mom I know talk about struggling with, it’s MOM GUILT.   Today we’re tackling the topic of guilt and why (whether you are a mom or not) the expectations we put on ourselves can cripple our ability to make the impact we know we’re meant to make.   My guest is Shira Nelson, the founder of MomBeyondBaby where she helps moms become their best and live a life of fulfillment. Shira has coached thousands of moms across the globe through fitness and business and nothing gets her more excited than mamas finding their true purpose after babies.   In this episode we talk about: The different challenges that come with different stages of parenthood (and how they parallel the entrepreneurship journey!) What “mom guilt” really stems from and whether or not it ever goes away How investing time and care into yourself isn’t just for you, it’s for the little ones who are watching you   Connect with Shira: instagram.com/mombeyondbaby Let’s be friends! instagram.com/powerhouse_women facebook.com/groups/powerhousewomencommunity

One of the biggest roadblocks that I think keeps many of us from stepping into our purpose is the fear that someone else is already doing what we want to do, and they are doing it better than we could (or so we think).    I have definitely been stopped by that fear before--and if you have too, today I’m sharing what has helped me break free from this limiting belief, and finally start putting my ideas into action.   In this episode you will learn: One of the biggest limiting beliefs or fears that stops people from pursuing their big ideas How to stop comparing your purpose to what others are doing The reason why we need all different voices and people sharing similar messages   Join us at Event Luv January 7-11, 2020! As women, it’s not consistent to be a Powerhouse in our daily lives & careers, only to go home at night and insult the woman we see in the mirror.    In a world where we’re bombarded by unrealistic beauty expectations on a daily basis, it’s no wonder why so many of us have struggled at one point or another with negative self & body image. Yes, we’re going there today... and to tackle this important topic I brought in my good friend Dr. Morgan Francis--Doctor of Clinical Psychology and a Licensed Mental Health Therapist. With over 20 years of experience specializing in the treatment of Body Image and Eating Disorders, Dr. Francis is on a mission to empower women to make peace with their bodies, and with food.   I’m thrilled to announce that Dr Morgan will be a SPEAKER on one of our panels at Powerhouse Women 2019!!   Whether you’ve personally struggled with your own self image, OR you want to set a positive example for your children, this topic is one that’s vital to have an honest conversation around.    In this episode you will learn: How cultivating a positive self image can positively impact your business The impact of “diet culture” on our self image, and what we can do about it  The healing power of gratitude to improve your self image   Bye Bye Body Blame course: https://drmorganfrancis.teachable.com/p/bye-bye-body-blame   Connect with Dr. Morgan Francis at:  www.scottsdalepremiercounseling.com www.instagram.com/drmorganfrancis Join us at Powerhouse Women 2019 in Scottsdale, September 7th! One of the BIGGEST ways I “got in my own way” was by comparing myself to other people, usually those who were further along in their journeys or doing incredible things that I really admired (and deep down wondered if I was capable of doing)...and it paralyzed me.   I would bet that maybe you have fallen into the comparison trap before too, and I’m here to tell you that there IS a way to free yourself from it so you can find your own lane, and make the impact you are meant to make.   In this episode you will learn: That you may not be able to turn off the comparison thoughts completely, but you can release the grip they have on your confidence How to reframe the automatic thoughts of comparison in a way that empowers you AND the person you’re comparing yourself to Why it’s not mean to unfollow someone on social media who triggers a comparison habit for you   Will we see you at Powerhouse Women 2019, September 7th in Scottsdale AZ? We can’t wait to meet you!! Grab your tickets today at www.powerhousewomen.co/event   Let’s be friends! www.instagram.com/powerhouse_women www.facebook.com/groups/powerhousewomencommunity

Whether you’re running a household or a multi-million dollar operation like our guest today, you can be the CEO of your own life - and my guest today has an incredible story and some serious wisdom to help you do exactly that.    Erin Hohnbaum is the CEO, Owner and Founder of the award-winning boutique chain, E.Leigh's Contemporary Boutiques, which spans Arkansas, Texas and Kentucky. At the age of 26, Erin decided to take a leap of faith by quitting her full-time public relations gig to start her own online and in-home trunk show accessories business.  Flash forward 8 years, and E.Leigh's is now a multi-million dollar operation, spanning 3 states. Erin says, "While the company has grown and evolved over the past 8 years, the mission has always stayed the same: to create a space where women feel strong, empowered and better leaving than when they came in our doors."   In this episode you will learn: The wisdom Erin’s dad shared with her that we ALL need to hear How to get over the fear of asking for help How to get resourceful when you’re first starting out in business   Connect with Erin: www.instagram.com/erinleighhohnbaum www.instagram.com/eleighsboutique www.shopeleighs.com   If you’re someone looking to open a retail store, Erin takes on select clients annually to consult and coach their business. Has the fear of criticism ever stopped you from putting yourself out there or going after what you really want? Oh boy can I relate. The fear of criticism kept me playing small for YEARS...and nothing that you see today as far as the Powerhouse Women event + community would exist had I kept listening to that fear. Today I’m sharing a few of the things that have helped me get out of MY own way when it comes to the fear of criticism, that I think will really help you too.   In this episode you will learn: That if the fear of criticism stops you from moving forward sometimes, you’re so not alone The fears that get in our way may never totally go away, but there ARE ways that we can learn to move forward in spite of our fears The two things that have helped me to move past my fear of criticism and get into action around my big ideas Are you joining us in September for Powerhouse Women 2019? The human body is amazing. Seriously, have you ever stopped to think about what a miracle your own body is?  Today we’re talking about how to tune into what your body is telling you, and how to use the simple power of your breath to decrease anxiety and stress.    This interview is seriously one of my FAVES thus far! My guest is Jen Esquer - a top 40 Physical Therapy Influencer who has been named one of the top 50 most influential healthcare professionals.    Jen holds a Doctorate in physical therapy and is the Founder of Mobility Method. Are you a people pleaser? I’ll admit, I’ve always related to the “people pleasing” part of my nature as a weakness, and something that I had to become “less of” in order to be successful. But today I’m going to share a recent breakthrough that I had around this so called “weakness” that will help YOU own your strengths AND weaknesses in a whole new way, regardless of whether or not you identify as a people pleaser too.   In this episode you will learn: How to reframe the things you consider “weaknesses” How to become MORE of who you truly are, so you can make the impact you really want to make The self check question I use to determine if I’m saying “yes” to please someone else, or if I’m saying “yes” because it’s a true “hell yes” for me   Are you joining us in September for Powerhouse Women 2019?
