Ep 40: HAVE FAITH, THEN DO FAITH | SEASON 2 FINALE!
Hi By Name Beauty Fam,  This is a bittersweet post for me to be writing as this episode concludes the final episode of the 2nd season of the Beauty By Name Podcast.  Although I am sad to be saying goodbye (temporarily!), I write this post with a full heart and completely grateful for the time we’ve spent together. I know that this season of the show was transformative for not only myself but also for all of you. You have joined me, week after week, as we tackled issues like self-identity, authenticity, pandemic beauty routines, body-image, and now faith. Let me tell you something, I would not be where I am today without faith. While I’ve always had a passion for the beauty industry and this show, I couldn’t always physically see the fruition or manifestation of what I was hoping for. But that’s where faith kicks in.  Faith is the thing that keeps you going even when you don’t see tangible results, yet. Even when you’re unsure and shaky. Even when you aren’t convinced it will all work. So here we are, 40 episodes and two seasons later and a growing By Name Beauty Family. I know that even in my lowest moments, it was my firm belief in the purpose of this show and my firm belief in the one who created it (Hi, Jesus :)) that has kept me going. I am so proud to be on this journey with each and every one of you. Here’s to our next chapter (or in this case, season) of glowing and growing together. Here’s to continuing to challenge old paradigms within beauty and reshaping the culture for the better. & most importantly, here’s to Beauty By YOU! Until next time my loves… Besos.

Ep 39. Drop the Labels | Pick Up Your Identity
In this episode of the By Name Beauty Podcast, we’re talking all about self-identity. Many of us, as a result of life, trauma, and lived experiences have given ourselves false labels that do not accurately depict who we are. Today, Jocoby challenges you to drop the false labels and to seek out your true identity. The one that was there from the very beginning. Want to connect? Ep 37. Diverse & Inclusive Beauty Means: Desegregating the Beauty Aisle
In today’s episode, Jocoby dives headfirst into what actual diverse and inclusive beauty looks like in today’s current climate. Now that the world is starting to wake up and acknowledge the fact that we haven’t always been inclusive and that we have to shift the tide, we’re left asking the question. Where do we go from here? It’s easy to say beauty should be diverse. It’s easy to say that minority-owned brands should have a larger presence in retail. It’s easy to say that we haven’t been doing it the right way. But what does the right way look like in practice? Desegregating the beauty aisle, both physically and theoretically, might just be the place to start. Many times when you walk into a store, you often see a clear divide in beauty products. There is usually an aisle dedicated to a “mainstream” customer and then a section dedicated to an “urban” customer. Or if we’re being frank, the “white” products versus the “black” ones. For many of us, that’s the only way we’ve ever shopped beauty and we might not know anything different. But the question we ask today on The By Name Beauty is, “Why?” Why do we separate beauty products based on race? Why do we often give minority-founded brands a sliver of space in a store? Why is it that if we think a product is created by a person of color then non-POC can’t shop or enjoy the brand? It’s a huge misguided thought process that isn’t rooted in equity or truth. Ep 36. Your Power is in Your Authenticity
Hello Lovely People, It’s another #PodcastTuesday and I have a secret to share with you. What if I told you that you, yes…YOU, have a unique and God-given purpose to fulfill while on this Earth? & not only do you have a completely unique assignment but that you also have special gifts, talents and skills that will help you carry out that purpose. Jocoby, what are you really saying? I’m saying that whether you know it or not, you have a completely distinctive drip. A sort of “special sauce” if you will. It’s the thing that makes you different from the other 7.6 billion people on the planet. & none of those other human beings –while amazing in their own right–could do what you do exactly how you do it. I hope you caught that. Essentially, what I’m saying is that you are special. Unique. Beautifully & wonderfully made. & that’s not fluff. That’s actual truth The Bible says in 1st Peter 4:10-11 that “God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another. Do you have the gift of speaking? Then speak as though God himself were speaking through you. Do you have the gift of helping others? Do it with all the strength and energy that God supplies. Then everything you do will bring glory to God through Jesus Christ. All glory and power to him forever and ever! Amen.” If God has given each of us a gift then why do we so often times try to be like the person beside us? So many of us (self-included!) have spent a good amount of our lives measuring ourselves against the world’s standard. Trying our absolute best to fit in. But what if we were never meant to fit in? I truly believe that our world-changing power lies in our authenticity. All we have to do is embrace it. & walk in it. Join Jocoby this week as she breaks down the issues with trying to be carbon copies of the world and the freedom in being exactly who God called you to be. “Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.” Romans 12:2 NLT If you enjoyed this episode (or blog post), please do me a favor and share it with a friend! Ep. 35 MORE THAN ENOUGH
Bruh. Sis. Whoever you are & however you identify. This episode is for you. I promise. Today on #TheByNamePodcast we discuss the freedom and power in knowing that you are more than enough. I start off today’s show with an incredible amount of vulnerability and bravery. I share a very personal piece of my own journey and how at one point in my life I struggled with my sense of identity and self-worth. I didn’t like who I was. I didn’t like being in my skin. Here I am now, at 29 years old, and still chockfull of imperfections. The difference now is that I am embracing them. I love who I am. Flaws & all. Because I know who I am. & I know that my value isn’t up for debate. Maybe you have struggled with the same thing… & that’s why I’m here to tell you that you are MORE THAN ENOUGH. Without another degree. Without another Instagram like. Without any recognition. Even if you never received another accolade or award or compliment. You. Are. More. Than. Enough. As plain & simple as that. & if you don’t believe me then believe God at His word… For Jeremiah 1:5 says, “I knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb. Before you were born I set you apart and appointed you as my prophet to the nations.” Did you hear that? Really take some time to soak that in. Before you were born…Before your parents even thought about you…God said you were set apart and that He had great plans for you. If that isn’t life-changing then I don’t know what is. If you felt today’s episode or any of the messages here at the By Name Beauty Podcast please leave us a message, DM, and show review! It helps the show get seen to other people all over the world. Ep 34. The Beauty of Taking God With You!!!
To All My Beauties, Let me just warn you now. Today’s show isn’t a normal one but it is an excellent one. You see, Holy Spirit took over and did HIS thing on today’s show. Recently, after praying and reflecting on a potential guest interview I want to do, God gave me revelation on the beauty of allowing Him to PUBLICLY shine through me (emphasis on public). See, the woman I want to interview (& one day will!) has an amazing beauty brand, several businesses, and is still a walking example of faith. What I love about her is that she never compromises her love for Christ to be in this industry. She is about all things Beauty AND God. Matter fact, this is what I wrote down about her as I dug deep on why I wanted her on the show in the first place. “Whenever I see women doing amazing things on the earth and in their fields without compromising on their love for God, I am reminded that I CAN have both. I don’t have to shy away for my love of Jesus while pursuing whatever God has called me to do on the earth. Matter of fact, God IS calling me (& you) to that industry (whether it be makeup, hair, fashion, medicine, law, production, film, architecture, lawn mowing, WHATEVER it may be) for a reason… he is calling me (& YOU) to make a difference in THAT particular space.” The Revelation: For some of us, bringing God with us to our jobs, our businesses, our relationships, etc. may be difficult since we aren’t sure what other people may think or say. But I have a special message just for you: As the original and ultimate creator, God wants to go with you in every space He’s calling you to. For me, it’s beauty. For you, it may be something else. It doesn’t matter the space as long as HE is there. I promise you, that business, job, hobby, relationship, etc. will be much better with God’s presence. Invite him in and see how he surprises you. The Call to Action: I am challenging you to incorporate God into every area of your life and to take him with you wherever you may go. If you’re ready to take that leap of faith, check out these tips and resources below to help jumpstart your journey. * Pray! This is a very simple yet most effective tool you can use to incorporate God into your life and business. Simply ask God to show you where you have been moving without him and ask him to have his way and lead every area of your life. Don’t worry about any fancy words or language. God wants you to be yourself and completely honest with him. I’m sure whatever way you uniquely talk to God is fine but if you’re stuck, I’ve included a prayer to help get you started below. Dear Heavenly Father,  I thank you for who you are and all you have done for me. As the ultimate creator of the universe I recognize that I cannot do life without you. I need you. Father, I ask that you forgive me for the times where I ignored you, hid my love for you, or didn’t allow you to lead me in my earthly endeavors and in business. Lord, I now see that you deserve to come with me in every room that I enter and every space that I occupy. Holy Spirit, I literally ask you to be my guide and to help me bodly proclaim God’s messages no matter where I go. I also pray that people around the earth are blessed and positively impacted by what you do in my life.  In Jesus Name I Pray,  Amen. 2. Check out the Blessed & Bossed Up Podcast Hosted by Tatum Temia I’ve been listening to this podcast since 2018 and it honestly changed my life. This is not a sponsored or collaboration post. Ep 33. Do You Want A Revolution? Whoop Whoop! | I Said DO You Want A Revolution?
Join Jocoby as she talks about the power of owning what beauty means for yourself, which, in her eyes, is nothing short of a personal revolution. This episode was inspired by the beauty that is Ari Lennox and the idea that we were all created equally yet uniquely by God. The By Name Beauty Podcast, the only show of its kind, exists to increase understanding and awareness around the intersection of culture & beauty. Why you may ask. Why culture & beauty??? The answer is simple. We believe that no matter where you go or what group of people you look at, that there is in fact a culture (meaning–shared language, practices, customs, beliefs, & community) in the way individuals with shared backgrounds approach and express beauty. Lets Talk Colorism
Episode 31 of the By Name Beauty Podcast was brought to you by Sunflower Child Miami. About Sunflower Child… “Black and Brown girls are socialized to hide away from the sun to maintain or have a fairer complexion, rather than seeking out the sun as a nutrient. #SunFlowerChild changes this narrative by celebrating Black & Brown girlhood and tackling colorism. Spurred from published research, #SunFlowerChild provides a remedy for colorism and color caste systems to encourage Black and Brown girls to love, care for, and protect their skin. #SunFlowerChild depicts a day in the life of an inner-city girl. While playing with her friends at the park, pool, and her front yard, the girls protect and love their skin, and use the sun as nourishment to grow, just like sunflowers. Support our girls by sowing into our girls by gifting a copy to your daughter, niece, or a special little girl in your life by visiting sunflowerchildmiami.com or by visiting them on Instagram @sunflower_child_miami.” About today’s show… In today’s episode of #TheByNameBeautyPodcast, we explore the topic of colorism and how it affects humans of every race and background. As always we #defineourterms and explore the pitfalls of this concept but we also look at how colorism is employed not only for vanity reasons but out of a desire to have a higher social standing and advancement throughout life. & you know we can’t forget about our beloved segment, “Girl What You’ve Been Up To?” where we divulge all of the products and practices that we have been loving. To find out which products we highlighted this week head over to our Instagram now! Yes, right now!
