It's time to talk about eye care for your children. Dr. Emily Ceisler is a board certified pediatric ophthalmologist and strabismus surgeon in a private practice in Manhattan. Emily has a medical degree from Harvard Medical School and completed her residency in ophthalmology at Harvard’s Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary. She performs pediatric eye surgery at NYU Medical Center and the New York Eye & Ear Infirmary. In this episode Dr. Ceisler covers a lot of ground. For over a decade Jeanné Graham has been a preschool teacher in New York City for children between the ages of 3 and 5 years old. Dr. Arash Akhavan is back and schooling us on skin health! We learned so much about healing both physically and emotionally from NY Times Best Selling Author, Danielle Walker. At 22 she was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis and after a plethora of medications that did more harm than good, as well as almost dying on 3 separate occasions, she decided to make dietary changes to end her suffering. April is Autism Awareness Month and Hilaria and Daphne are joined by Chief Science Office at Autism Speaks, Dr. Thomas Frazier, PhD. He is responsible for the science portfolio, including grant-making, the MSSNG genomic research project and the Autism Treatment Network. As a clinical psychologist, Dr. Frazier has been involved for 11 years in evaluation, treatment and research focused on individuals with autism. Prior to joining Autism Speaks, he was the director of the Cleveland Clinic Center for Autism and an assistant professor of pediatrics at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine. He is a dad of 2 beautiful children one of which has Autism and intellectual disabilities. Over the past decade, Dr. Frazier has published more than 100 peer-reviewed papers and done numerous conference presentations. His research has focused on improving autism identification; developing and studying new treatment approaches; creating and refining measures for tracking autism symptoms and quality of life in individuals and families affected by autism; and translational studies of a genetic sub-group of individuals with autism and phosphatase and tensin homolog (PTEN) mutations. Autism Speaks is dedicated to promoting solutions, across the spectrum and throughout the life span, for the needs of individuals with autism and their families through advocacy and support; increasing understanding and acceptance of people with autism spectrum disorder; and advancing research into causes and better interventions for autism spectrum disorder and related conditions. You're in for a hefty episode of Mom Brain chock full of detailed information! Hilaria and Daphne both swear by the practice of acupuncture and credit it for resolving many of their issues, be they digestion, postpartum recovery, menstrual cycle regulation and a lot more. They each invited their acupuncturists in to discuss the science behind how this ancient eastern form of medicine works in alleviating pain, helping with fertility, weight loss and so much more. Also, it wouldn't be a Mom Brain episode if the ladies didn't get poked with needles live on the show. So they both got their pulses checked and were administered needles according to what the acupuncturist found was causing problems. First up was Ann Cecil-Sterman, Hilaria's acupuncturist, a teacher, writer and fertility specialist. She is the author of the widely acclaimed, best-selling book, Advanced Acupuncture: A Clinic Manual, a required text in many acupuncture schools in the United States and more recently, The Art of Pulse Diagnosis, already a widely used text. She travels all over the United States, Europe and Australia to teach the application and methodology of the Complement Channels, the art of pulse diagnosis, (and with her husband Andrew, the use of food as medicine). Then it was Michelle Spina, Daphne's acupuncturist, expert in Acupuncture, Chinese Herbology and Oriental Medicine. Her core specialty is Women’s health issues and fertility and she's trained in Arvigo Mayan fertility massage.
