The airport experience has changed significantly in the wake of the COVID-19 crisis. Travelers will encounter this new airport experience from the moment they enter PHL, up until the time they arrive at their next destination. During COVID, PHL has remained open. The Grab platform was introduced at Philadelphia International Airport in 2019 as a convenience tool for travelers and employees to order food at the airport while on-the-go. In the COVID-19 world, Grab is helping to promote physical distancing and safety by allowing customers to avoid queuing in crowded lines and limiting high-touch interactions for restaurant staff and guests. PHL is in the midst of a $2.4 billion capital development program to make critical improvements and develop new infrastructure at both PHL and PNE. These airfield and terminal projects, which began in 2012, will improve the customer experience, lay the groundwork for future development and help to capitalize on the role that the Airport plays as a regional economic engine. In this episode, Chellie is joined by Bill Hunt, CEO of Leonardo Helicopters Division, a neighbor of the Northeast Philadelphia Airport. An Industrial Center of Excellence, Philadelphia represents the Helicopter Division’s primary production, sales, customer support, and training presence in the United States. In March 2019, Leonardo announced a $65 million plan to build a 60,000-square-foot training facility that will bring more than 160 new jobs to Leonardo Helicopters and the Philadelphia region. A newfound emphasis on local, unique experiences is changing the way travelers choose their vacation and leisure destinations. Travelers seeking adventure are searching for authentic, distinctive experiences -- and airlines have answered the demand by increasing their non-stop flights to these boutique destinations. Passengers are not only interested in their experience within the origination airport, but also in the destination city. PHL's hub carrier, American Airlines, is adding more niche locations to its service, in addition to major metropolitan cities around the globe. Joining Chellie in this episode is the 2017 recipient of the Leadership Award, Christopher Perry, PHL Airport Operations Officer. Chris took the lead on the PHL 5K Run on the Runway last August. He showed outstanding leadership skills in coordinating this event. PNE, the sixth busiest airport in Pennsylvania, provides "on call" U.S. Customs, Immigrations and U.S. Department of Agriculture services to corporate domestic and international passengers. In this very special episode, Chellie is joined by World War II hero, Dr. Eugene Richardson, an original member of the elite Tuskegee Airmen. “Tuskegee Airmen” refers to all who were involved in the so-called “Tuskegee Experience,” the Army Air Corps program to train African-Americans to fly and maintain combat aircraft, including pilots, navigators, bombardiers, maintenance and support staff, instructors, and other personnel. The employees at the Philadelphia International Airport and the Northeast Philadelphia Airport are one big family. So, it should come as no surprise that when over 1,000 of our family members are hurting from the government shutdown, the PHL community has joined together to help. Whether it’s our weekly “Meals on Monday” program, a sit-down lunch for all federal government workers at the airport, or opening the doors to a new food pantry, the outpouring of support and people wanting to help has been overwhelming. In this special episode, you’ll hear about what we're doing at PHL and how you can help, whether you're a member of the PHL community or a Philadelphia-area resident.   If you are a federal employee in need in the Philadelphia region, we encourage you to visit our Food Pantry in Terminal E by Frontier Airlines between 7:30am-6pm.   And if you want to make a donation, please pull up to the Communications Center (located between Terminals C and D) for drop-off between the hours of 9am - 9pm.

In honor of the Army-Navy game on December 8th in Philadelphia, Chellie talks with Liberty USO CEO, Joe Brooks about the new USO lounge at PHL.
