While heading back to Texas from the Dixie National Stock Show and Rodeo in Jackson, the pulled out the recorder, sat it on the console, and recorded a little over an hour of their conversation in the truck.
What’s up, MWH Listeners!
On this episode of the podcast we talk about Super Bowl LIII (that’s 53 in not-Rome) including the commercials, the halftime show, Adam’s no shirt and tattoos, Tom Brady’s legacy, and all that. We also answer some good questions about barrel racing. One about selecting which barrel to go to first, one about horse fitness, and the other buying a horse unseen. Thanks for listening! Hope you like it!
Life is short. Ride a Unicorn.
On this episode of MwH, we cover a bunch of random and interesting current events and cover a little recent rodeo news. We also discuss the REAL cost of a colt. In the later part of the show we answer a couple of questions submitted by listeners. One question we answer was about things that lead to success in the horse business and life. We also talk about the counter to that, things that lead to failure. Some pretty interesting things on this first episode of February 2019! Thanks for joining us!
This episode is with 7x NFR qualifying barrel racer, futurity trainer, model, and mom, Angie Meadors. Angie qualified for her first National Finals when she was just 14 in 1990. She made 5 more trips in the ’90’s and 2 more in 2010-11. She also started her modeling career in that same year (1990) and has done that ever since. You’ve seen her in MANY ads over the years. Smoke show! She’s trained some of the greats. She is without a doubt one of the most successful barrel racers to ever compete in the

We discuss "kissing spine,” talk about switching a horse from right to left (or vice versa), general personal fitness and diet, and talk a little about alley issues. Hope you enjoy it! If you do, tell a friend!
This episode is with 5x PRCA Steer Wrestling World Champion, Luke Branquinho. Luke has been an absolute phenom in the rodeo arena amassing almost $3M in his pro rodeo career, 5 Gold Buckles in 2004, 2008, 2011, 2012, and 2014, and 14 NFR Qualifications. As if his prowess inside the arena wasn't enough, he’s also a natural working the microphone in front of a camera. Coming off an injury and easing back into the rodeo game last year, he spent the 2018 NFR as a commentator for the TV Broadcast.

This episode of Married With Horses is with Kristi Schiller. We’ve known Kristi for 7 or years or so and quickly bonded over barrel racing, our affiliations and affinity for Texas A&M, and many other things. She’s an amazing person. She’s the founder of the non-profit organization, K9s4Cops. An organization that donates K9’s to law enforcement and schools though the United States and various places abroad. In the last 7 years they’ve confiscated more than $250m in narcotics.
Our guest on the show today was Professional Bareback Rider, JR Vezain. JR has won a million bucks on the back of a bucking horse. He is a 6-time Wrangler National Finals Rodeo qualifier, 2011 Resistol Rookie of the Year in the Bareback, and all around good dude. In the last weekend of the 2018 PRCA Season, JR broke his back while covering a horse in Pasadena, TX that left him parlayed from the waste down. Since that day, his life has changed. His positive outlook on life has not.
We put out the message that we wanted a few questions for the podcast and got LOTS! So many good ones too! On this episode we answer about 5% of them! We talk about clinics, about respiratory issues, Jackie’s favorite training drill, navicular, underwear types, hair styles, and other interesting topics! At least we think they’re interesting... We’re back with our first episode of 2019! This will be our first FULL year! We’re SUPER excited for all this year has in store and we hope you are too! On this episode we talk a lot of about goal setting. Not “New Years Resolutions,” but ACTUAL goals. No better time than the present to talk about it! We also talk a little about PETA, because they do questionable things pretty regularly. It’s our usual banter that gets us nowhere and everywhere along the way. Thanks for listening!
Our last episode of 2018 is with our good friend, Dustin Gersch. Dustin is an creator/owner of Paleo Powder. Not only is he an entrepreneur, he's a financial planner/adviser with a plethora of suffixes after his name, and an all around great dude. We had a good chat in which he wore both of his proverbial hats.
This episode is with the newly crowned 2018 WPRA World Champion Barrel Racer, Hailey Kinsel. Hailey and her palomino superstar, Sister, just finished up what has got to be the best 2 seasons a barrel racer has ever had winning well over $1million over the last 20months or so. What makes this cowgirl amazing though, isn’t just the REALLY fast times run in the arena, but the great human being she is outside of it.
We’re back on this Boxing Day edition of MWH to bring you a conversation with Charlotte Edwards. Charlotte, among other things, is a barrel horse trainer. Another hat she wears is that of a Barrel Futurities of America Board Member. We talk about training colts, discuss some fun stories from horses from the past, and talk a little bit about Charlotte’s upbringing in the horse world. This is our 3rd straight episode with no guest, but we have some great conversations lined up with cowboys and cowgirls that are just now getting home (or still in transit) from Las Vegas and the NFR. We also have a lot of other great folks to talk to in the upcoming weeks as well and we’ll be bringing you those soon! Thanks for hanging out with us again!
On this episode of Married With Horses we answer a bunch of questions from Instagram and Facebook. We have SO many more that we’ll certainly need to do another one of these soon! Thanks for asking and interacting! We talk about all sorts of things. From aspects of our relationship and the podcast to questions about vet treatments and therapies, we really hit a wide variety of topics. We also recorded this one while watching the NFR, so naturally we give our 2-cents and commentary on all that.
On this episode of the show, which we recorded from our living room while watching the NFR, we discuss the first 4 rounds of the NFR and all the excitement around that. We also discuss the 2018 Barrel Futurities of America World Championship that took place for the Oklahoma City last week. The last one for the the foreseeable future as the event moves to the Lazy E Arena in Guthrie, OK next year. It was a fun conversation interrupted with rodeo action.
Our third podcast from he BFA World Championships in Oklahoma City is with Danyelle Campbell. Danyelle is a barrel horse trainer who’s excels at the aged events and has also been to the “Big Show” of pro rodeo in Las Vegas. There aren’t many who’ve excelled in both, but she’s one of the few.
Howdy! Our second episode recorded from the 2018 BFA World Championships is with Shawn and Casey Varpness. This barrel racing couple, from Rochester, Minnesota, both train and ride horses as well as produce some of the largest barrel racing events in the Midwest. Their barrel racing production company, SC Productions LLC, produces barrel races and futurities in Minnesota.

Let us know your opinions on how things will shape up this year in Las Vegas!
Our guest this week is Jessica Routier. Jessica will be competing at her first National Finals Rodeo beginning in one week (from the time of this release). Jessica and her main mount, a 7yo palomino mare named Fiery Miss West or “Missy”, have cashed in about $100k this regular season which will see her ending in the Thomas and Mack. This episode was a great conversation with our friend, Jymmy Kay Cox. Jymmy Kay is a wonderful person, life-long horsewoman, former WPRA President, Barrel Racer, and lifelong friend of Jackie and her family. It was a really good talk about life, horses, the WPRA, and powerful and determined women. We love JK and really enjoyed our conversation. I bet you will as well!
n this episode of Married With Horses, we make our initial selections for our ProFantasyRodeo.com 2018 WNFR Teams. I say, “Initial” because this was the first time we sat down and looked at all of the contestants in each event and tried to piece together a team. It was fun and you get a little insight into how we select our teams. SPOILER ALERT: It’s not real scientific, but we both have GREAT teams!!
We’re back in the studio at the house today with just the two of us. We discuss the the jamb packed last weekend that was full of barrel racing across the nation, our sick kid, and answer questions from a listener.
Thanks for hanging out with us!
This episode was with our good friend, Lacey Harmon. It was our second conversation from the Texas Fall Classic Futurity and Barrel Race. Lacey is a barrel horse breeder and trainer. She’s been in the game a while despite not quite being 30 years old yet. She has had loads of success throughout her career while training futurity horses, but none more than when she won 3, (yes THREE!) $100,000 slot races in the last 2 years.
This conversation is with our good friends Hallie and Lee Hanssen. Together this barrel racing power couple has a phenomenal program that includes standing multiple stallions, having a deep breeding program, and training and competing on some of the best horses in the barrel racing futurity game. They’re great people with interesting stories who have a genuine knowledge and passion for their sport and profession. We really had a blast talking to them. Hope you enjoy it!
This episode was recorded the night before Halloween, 2018. Jackie and Lane discussed Halloween costumes for the family, talked about current events, answered some questions from social media, and just discussed random topics. Thanks for hanging out with us!
We’re just a few months into this and we’ve had some of the biggest names in the sport of rodeo and barrel racing on the show already. While that has been all good and exciting, we’ve had a few folks asking us to have on some “normal” barrel racers or maybe someone that your everyday weekend barrel racer can relate a little more to. Well, we decided to have on some NOT SO “NORMAL” BARREL RACERS.
Our 3rd conversation from the 2018 WPRA Finals was with Angela Ganter. Angela is a barrel racer, mom, and really good friend ours. She recently became the Canadian Grass Roots Champion and will be heading to the Canadian National Finals to compete next week (Oct. 30-Nov. 4, 2018). She’s also the mom and hauling partner to multiple time NFR qualifier, Jackie Ganter. Angela was Jackie Jatzlau’s hauling partner when Jackie qualified for the NFR in 2003 and 2004.
Our second episode from the WPRA Finals was with roping superstar, Lari Dee Guy. Lari Dee is an 11-time world champ, horse trainer, clinician, and all around bad ass with a rope in her hand. Her list of accomplishments are LONG and can be found on her website HERE! We really enjoyed talking to her and hearing stories about her fellow ropers, cool partnerships, and amazing horses.
This episode of MWH is with “Backflip" Johnny Dudley. Johnny is a professional rodeo clown and great friend of ours. He’s my favorite rodeo act and also a hell of guy. Johnny is also a former US Marine, a dad of 2 little boys, and along with his beautiful wife, Emily, and her family they own a phenomenal tack business, DUECES WILD TACK. He really is all about rodeo and the western way of life.
Jonathon Oliver, or “JJ” as we know him, is an author, speaker, and dad. He’s penned a few books including "Joy In The Journey: 1st Year Chronicles of a Stay At Home Dad." He’s also traveled the country giving speeches in schools and other places for a couple of organizations.. We’ve known Jonathon for a long time. We grew up together in the same little Texas town. We have history, so the conversation was comfortable, quick, and easy. We bounced around and hit a myriad of great topics. Thanks for
