Hey, it's Callee, just checking in to let you know that there's no Hippie Haven Podcast episode this week, because thanks to all your support + votes, my zero waste store Bestowed Essentials, made it to the top 100 finalists of the 2019 Fedex Small Business grant, so we had to quickly put together a video for the next round of judging, and that, plus getting my new full-time employee Chesca all settled in here at the shop and ready to take over production + shipping of our online orders for me, I've had my hands full lately and decided to skip an episode for this week, but I will be back next week on our regular schedule with April Dickinson, you might know her on Instagram as @zerowastedork, and she'll be sharing her expertise as a former legislative assistant on how to effectively communicate with lawmakers + how to enact policy change at your local level. This is a topic I've gotten a lot of requests for, so I'm reallyyyyy excited to finally be diving deep into this subject because, as we all know, individual action is important, but it's not the end-all-be-all, and it takes action from corporations + governments to bring about substantial change, but we're not going to see action unless we demand it. This is just one of many episodes I'll be doing this year on community activism, as well as of course, still talking about individual lifestyle changes, because "zero waste" is about so much more than just making little to no trash. Thank you so much, as always, for all of your support, not just with this podcast, but with my business + my other projects, I love connecting with you on Instagram, if you're not already following me, I'm @ahippieinavan, and feel free to suggest other topics and/or guests that you'd like to hear on the podcast! Remember, that together, we will make a difference to save the planet.

The Hippie Haven Podcast is hosted by Callee - a zero waste activist & business owner. Formerly a translator for the US Navy, Callee was honorably discharged as a conscientious objector in 2017 following an episode of severe depression & alcoholism fueled by not living in alignment with her core values. That same year, at age 23, she started Bestowed Essentials, a handmade line of eco-friendly beauty & home products that are now stocked in over 100 stores around the US & Canada. Callee began hosting this free podcast in August 2018, as well as speaking at events and teaching educational workshops across the country, as part of her life mission to arm you with the knowledge & tools you need to spark positive change in your community. In December 2019, she opened The Hippie Haven in Rapid City, South Dakota - a zero waste retail store & community space with a little free library - the first of its kind in the state. She’ll be opening a second Hippie Haven in Salem, Oregon in Feb 2021.
