This is it: the episode about the mountain. You've probably already heard us talk about the incredible experience we had in Utah a couple weekends ago, how training for it brought us closer together, and accomplishing it set our hearts on fire. This is a unique recording, because not only will you hear from us as we prepare to summit this beast (thirteen times!), but also a few candid recordings we took while we're in the thick of it. This is one you won't wanna miss a minute of. What are you even doing still reading this? Start listening now!

This episode is a little different from what you're used to hearing on RISE Together, but we had an absolute blast recording it! That's because today we're talking with some of the mega-talented staff here at Hollis Co HQ about love, marriage, and singlehood in the 20-teens (is that what we're calling it?) Four of our hardworking teammates (including a couple you might recognize from social media or RISE conferences!) took time out of their busy schedules to get emotional, honest, and raw with us on topics ranging from how to use dating apps to how to help your partner be better in your relationship. This week, by popular demand, we're talking about confrontation styles. How do you fight with your partner? Do you aim to wound, or are you trying to find a peaceful resolution? Maybe your fighting style is to avoid fighting at all costs. Everyone's confrontation style is a little different, and oftentimes how we fight with our current partner is informed by the traumas of our past - past relationships, childhood modeling, and even media. This is a great episode to listen to with your partner as we dig into some hard truths and challenge YOU to get real about what you're holding onto and what you can stand to let go.--My new book Girl, Stop Apologizing is available now! Recently, we lost someone close to us. That loss made us reflect on our lives and what we hold as important. We can all get stuck in those negative emotions we associate with grief if we don't give them some sort of outlet. For us, that outlet looks like talking about it. How do we deal with grief? How can loss create a space in which to examine and reevaluate your own life? Are you proud of the life you're living? These are just some of the tough questions we cover today. At some point in time, every single one of you who listens to this podcast will deal with the topic of grief and have to address it in order to maintain healthy relationships in your life. This week for Rise Together we're discussing health based sabotage. We've defined and named four partner types whose behaviors can negatively impact your health journey, based on our own experiences. We hope that by outlining these archetypes, you can be more mindful of external behaviors that might keep you from focusing on your own health and fitness goals. This week on Rise Together, it's my time! I'm going solo and responding to Dave's episode, "What Men Want" with the five things that women really want. Dave and I are not like other couples in a lot of ways, and proud of it! In this episode, we discuss how being different has shaped our relationship. From prioritizing our health to our willingness to dive head-first into the hard conversations, we break down our list of what we feel makes our relationship different. If we don't sound like you, that's great, because every relationship is completely unique. Today on Rise Together, it's our anniversary! We've been married for an incredible 15 years this week, so it seems like a good time to look back over our relationship and spend some time discussing what we did right and wrong in all those years. We also try to impart some wisdom on our former selves. Our marriage is one of the greatest gifts in our lives, but it's also taken a massive amount of work and commitment on both of our parts to make it as strong as it is. So whether you're single, engaged, newlyweds, or deep into your journey, we hope you can take something away from this conversation. --My new book Girl, Stop Apologizing is available now! Today on Rise Together, we are so privileged to have Devon Still as our guest. Devon is a former NFL player who famously took the field after his daughter Leah's devastating pediatric cancer diagnosis and helped her fight her illness while bringing an unbelievable amount of attention to the cause and helping others in the same devastating situation. Devon talks to me about how he was able to walk alongside her after himself almost dying himself, and why he chose to bring her fight onto the field. Devon is an absolute inspiration and if you have ever had to lend you strength to someone with an illness, I think you'll find a lot of comfort in this interview. --Both upcoming RISE conferences are sold out, but Health + Wellness Day tickets for Minneapolis and Dallas are still available! Today on Rise Together we’re talking about something we’ve never discussed in detail with our audience, the incredible and emotionally-trying journey we took to adoption. In what ended up being 5 long years of our lives, we navigated both international and domestic adoption, becoming foster parents, and the complicated waters of state and national child-care agencies, all in the name of completing our family. It resulted in some of the toughest seasons of our lives but also the sweetest moments and we are so blessed to be able to share this story with you. On this week's Rise Together podcast, we’re digging into the opinions of other people, and how we dodge or sometimes even positively use the opinions of others. Of course you should take everyone’s opinion with a grain of salt, but no matter how much we say that, it’s never that easy. You may even find it influences some constructive growth in regards to how you’re showing up for the the people you love. Here is how we pick through both the positive and negative things we hear about ourselves every day.Exciting news: Rachel is launching a coaching series! As the end of the year approaches, we think it’s incredibly important to take stock of the highs and lows you’ve experienced as a couple over the previous 12 months. For us, it’s been one of the most eventful and meaningful years of our collective lives, and unpacking that was extremely insightful. On this week's Rise Together podcast, we're going to talk about the roles and identities we each take on in a relationship and how despite our best intention of how we hope to show up well for our partner, what we think they want may not what they really need. The roles and identities we as individuals in a relationship play evolve over the course of our partnership through stages and seasons of life. In a relationship that's interested in moving forward, letting go of who you are or who you were for who you'll become is something you need to work through and continually embrace, even as you're at times unrecognizable from where you started -- that's growth. Those changes show how a fluid you anticipates the needs of each other at specific times in life and in specific environments that surround you. You'll only be able to show up in a way that makes the most of your collective strengths if you're combining your individual strengths with the individual needs of your partner in a way that's informed by regular, transparent conversation, and that anticipates how life or seasonal changes may require a pivot where you or they take on a new role to create the strongest team.A special shout out to the greatest living author (according to her husband) Rachel Hollis who's Girl, Wash Your Face incredibly passed 2 million copies sold last week. For the first time ever on the Rise Together podcast, we're having an hour-long conversation about fatherhood -- what does it take to be a good dad in 2018? In a conversation with Larry Hagner, the host of The Dad Edge Podcast, Dave and Larry talk about raising 1,000 kids, how to keep the spark alive with your spouse while doing so, the myths around balance, the debate of giving kids what they want vs what they need and the biggest things they're hoping to impart on their small humans. In this week's episode, Rachel and Dave surprise each other with the five gifts they're "giving" each other for Christmas this year in one of each of five categories: something the other needs, something the other wants, something the other can wear, something the other can read and something fun for intimacy in the bedroom. Also, this podcast was recorded 8 seconds after Dave and Rachel were arguing for 9 minutes, so it's off the rails in the best way from the first second. In the episode, we mention the Start Today Journals -- there is only one of three covers left, so if you're interested in grabbing the last cover in round two before the next covers arrive in March, hit this link --> https://bit.ly/2FMQ4rU Also, if you listen past the close, Dave sneaks a mention of the encore of the documentary Rachel Hollis Presents Made for More which is back in theaters Jan 2 and Jan 9. The opinions of outsiders can create havoc within a relationship. Just the word "mother-in-law" is likely to bring one or both of you into a heightened state of bickering. In this episode we have selected several excerpts from our live speaking engagements to delve into the mechanics of why opinions affect us and the methods we have used to drop this mental luggage off at the curb. (In the last segment Rachel was literally using luggage on-stage to make an important point.) Enjoy!

In today's episode Dave takes a solo mission deep into man country and tackles the four things men can't talk about to their partners. Guys whether you like it or not, these issues eventually crop up in every relationship. By learning to boldly identify them they lose their power to derail your marriage. Women, this is like getting a secret map to the very things that might be jamming communications. Dave is transparent and frank, and for that reason we don't recommend playing this podcast around little humans. We hope this episode will unlock freedom in your relationship, like it has in ours.
