What a pleasure to begin our new season with Ariella Chezar. I love this portion of her bio, “Whether it is collaborating on a spectacular event, teaching a room full of flower lovers, planting thousands of tulips or styling a photo shoot, I consider myself lucky to love every aspect of my color filled world.” Ariella has published three books, with another in the works. She’s been featured in many magazines, and has been an inspiration to flower lovers around the world. This episode was originally recorded back in late winter, pre-pandemic, however, with schedules and the unexpected challenges of 2020 we choose to release it today to open season 5. A few weeks ago we recorded an update, and Ariella graciously shared her activities during these challenging times and on the farm Ariella has been quoted saying, “My work is divided between weddings and events, farming and teaching, all of which give me tremendous joy.” And this week she’s on The flower Podcast! Be sure to stay tuned till the end for an update with Ariella. Our love of flowers and the human spirit, our passion for creativity, inspiration, and encouragement will always connect us, and I am grateful to share this journey with you. For the first time since we started our podcast almost 2 years ago, we didn’t air an episode last week. Wanting to be sensitive and not creating a platform that seemed self serving or like a personal promotion, we choose to press pause. So, for this week, we decided to reach out to one of our past guests from this season, Steve Moore. Sharing from his heart Steve invites us into his journey about family, his own experiences with racism and his personal thoughts on moving forward. Nothing said in this episode is meant to over simplify or understate the issues in our country involving racism. The conversation has obviously already begun, but it’s my hope that this will help strengthen our community. My vision for The Flower Podcast has always been and will continue to be to make the floral journeys of our amazing guests known and be a supporting voice in the flower community. As I mention on almost every episode, I created this podcast to help, serve, and encourage our friends in the floral industry. Over time my flower family has continued to grow and literally cover our planet and with the events over the last couple weeks and especially the last 72 hours at the time of this recording these words are the basis for this week’s impromptu interview. Events have been canceled or postponed, flights have been disrupted, social distancing has become more than just a buzz word, and we may feel like we are in a whirlwind, because of COVID-19 or Corona Virus. Over the next several weeks, we will all have felt the impact in someway by the current situation. This week, I spoke with Patrick, Dahlson, CEO of Mayesh Wholesale Florist and Ian Prosser of Botanica International Design and Decor Studio for a short conversation about what’s going on at this moment in the floral industry from a couple of different perspectives. Patrick shares his insights on managing orders and customers, flower logistics, and facing these challenges with energized hope for the coming weeks. Ian shares openly about their cancelations and how they're approaching their events on a case by case basis. He also discusses how Tampa is working with local businesses in a positive way to work through this challenging time. I spoke with these business owners on Sat. March 14th, so To be transparent, this situation is changing all the time and we can only speak to the climate and challenges we have today. Needless to say, I’m thankful that Patrick and Ian were able to join me on The Flower Podcast. Please know that I believe great challenges will create great triumphs. Let us all come together to give each other hope and encouragement and use this time to learn and grow as a floral community.
