In this Ash-tastic Mini Morbid, we discuss the truly senseless and tragic murder of actress Rebecca Schaeffer. On July 18, 1989 Robert Bardo stalked and eventually ended the life of a star that was truly on the rise. Although no one else is to blame for his decent into homicidal madness, his mental health and the lack of help he received for it seemed to play a big role in this horrific crime.

It's a historical mini! This week's tiny Morbid is a good old fashioned mystery/whodunit. After a long journey through the hellfire that was Dennis Rader, I think we can all use something lighter and possible politically charged murder is just the ticket. The Princes in the Tower takes us back to Tudor England when there was a real life game of thrones happening and sometimes things and often people got in the way of throne succession.

It's finally here! The final chapter of our Dennis Rader saga has arrived and this one is the longest yet. In this crescendo, we will take you through his final murders, his 10 year downtime and his eventually resurfacing and capture. It's been real but holy hell are we happy to be done with Dennis. Get out of my head, you loser.

In today's installment of "DENNIS IS THE WORST", we cover the horrific murders of Kathryn Bright and Shirley Vian as well as talk about Dennis' Paraphiliac tendencies and how his narcissistic behavior led him to take ridiculous measures to insert himself into the unsolved murders.
Katherine Ramsland’s book:
This is an Ash-centric Mini and it is a heartbreaker. 15 year old Seath Jackson was ruthlessly ambushed by his peers, some of which he had considered friends. His murder was cold, calculated and brutal.

This story is truly unbelievable. Emergency Room nurse of 30 years, Susan Kuhnhausen (who now goes by Susan Walters) could have easily become the victim of a murder for hire plot but instead, she used every bit of her knowledge, experience and wits to survive. This story will stick with you in a good way.
Susan, if you are listening, you are a legend.
We love a good, creepy case from the 40s in here, don't we? The strange, tragic murder of Hallie Illingworth is fascinating for one big reason, and that reason is saponification. Trust us, this one has it all....science, history and corpse wax.

One big take away is that it was dark in there. Don't worry, you'll get it.
It's an Alaina Mini Morbid, which means it is longer than an average full length episode. Trust us, it is worth it because this case is a truly horrific but endlessly fascinating look into the mind of a secretly troubled young boy who fooled absolutely everyone in his life. Unfortunately, it was young, precious, vivacious Maddie Clifton was on the receiving end of his break from reality.
This case involves the death of a child and it is hard to hear. We warn ahead of time when it will be discussed, so you can skip accordingly if you feel like you need to!

This case has always haunted Alaina and it felt like the right time to let it loose. The brutal murders of Joseph Odom and Dr. Charles Scudder were senseless and horrific. Get ready for some frustration and Satanic Panic because this tale is full of both.

Next week, we dive into some gruesome crimes that have occurred within the area as well. Hold onto your butts because Massachusetts is crazy, guys.

In this 2 part series, we will take a deep dive into the mysterious, gruesome and tragic death of Phoebe Handsjuk. The vibrant, beautiful and talented 23 year old died horrifically when she somehow plunged from a 12th floor garbage shoot in a luxury apartment building, all the way onto the bottom floor, where she passed through a compactor before being spat out in a scene straight out of a horror film.
Part 1 will dissect her early life, her tumultuous relationship and her tragic death. Stay tuned for Part 2 where we go deeper into her death, the physics of it all and her family and friends' never-ending mission to find out the truth.

Angela Samota was a brilliant and vivacious college student whose life was tragically cut short when she was raped and murdered in her home in 1984. The investigation that follows takes some twists and turns before ending up at a shocking conclusion that proves no one can stop a determined best friend.

Guys, it happened. Ash scared the hell out of Alaina. In this Ash-centric Mini Morbid episode, we take a look into the bizarre, spooky and tragic tale of Daniel LaPlante who hides in your wall and wears your makeup. Seriously, just sledgehammer your house now because this case will have you questioning if insulation is worth it.
Here we are, back again to go even deeper into the enigma that is Israel Keyes. This guy was a true monster and the details of his confessed crimes seem almost too horrific to be real. In Part 2, we go deeper into his three murders that we mentioned in Part 1 and we also discuss his motivations, his quirks and plug a great investigative podcast about this case, True Crime Bullshit. Come on in, the water is murky and poisonous.
Israel Keyes is one of those cases that will have you wondering why he isn't talked about more when it comes to prolific and BRUTAL serial killers. Using a home base in Anchorage, Alaska, this douche rocket took lives all over the lower states on a killing spree that spanned miles and years. His patience, planning and savagery are honestly unmatched. In Part 1 we will take a look at his religious upbringing, some of his weird self imposed rules and three of the confirmed murders attributed to his reign of terror. In the conclusion to our deep dive into the death of Kurt Cobain, we talk about the crime scene in more depth, the events leading up to Kurt's eventual discovery, Courtney Love's possible role and the investigation that still has us scratching our heads. Did Kurt die by his own hand that day in his Seattle greenhouse, or was someone else behind the shotgun?
This case is a real mystery....or is it?
Christine Paolilla was the "ugly" duckling who blossomed into an "irresistible" swan, thanks to new friends Rachael Koloroutis and Tiffany Rowell who took the struggling new girl in school under their wings. Suddenly Christine had friends, popularity and a new boyfriend Chris Snyder. But, there are people in this world who truly bite the hands that feed them and Christine did just that. This Mini Morbid may make you think twice about who you trust.
Ash is back, guys! Rejoice with us and also get super bummed out because it has been 25 years since the world lost a certain musical icon. In this two-parter, we will begin by diving into the legendary Kurt Cobain's childhood, rise to fame with Nirvana , meeting and spawning with Courtney Love and his tragic downfall.
Stay tuned for Part 2 where we theorize what actually happened to Kurt and talk more about Courtney Love, the crime scene and the physics behind that supposedly self inflicted shotgun blast.
It's all Alaina today guys and she is giving you the dirty details about what happens when we die, how corpses are identified in various states of decomposition and what makes Dr. Bill Bass' Body Farm so unbelievably fascinating. Hope you like maggots, weirdos. Because...they are going to eat you someday.
16 year old Jason Sweeney was a sweet, kind, hard working kid with a bright future. Unfortunately, Jason also unknowingly surrounded himself with jealous, violent people who posed as his friends only to end it all for him.
This case is brutal.
In the conclusion of this disgusting story, Ash and Alaina discuss Kristen French and Leslie Mahaffy's tragic last days and lament over The Deal With The Devil. Things don't get any better in this half of the tale, but at least Karla has jowls now.
Canadians, you know this case all too well. It is vile, horrific and unjust to say the least. Karla Homolka and her husband Paul Bernardo AKA "The Scarborough Rapist" terrorized and murdered young women in Ontario during the late 80s/early 90s, including Karla's own younger sister, until they were finally stopped and locked up for good....at least one of them was. In this two part investigation into their life and crimes, things are definitely going to get uncomfortable and disturbing. So, listener beware. We will give plenty of warning when things are going to get brutal.
For Alaina's Mini Morbid, we will take a look at the baffling case of Kris Kremers and Lisanne Froon. After embarking on a philanthropic journey to Central America from the Netherlands, both young women went missing in the Panama jungle in 2014. When scant remains of the missing women were found some time later, along with cell phones that called for help several times and a camera with spooky photos, the case took a turn from confusing to scary. What happened to Kris and Lisanne out there?
Countess Elizabeth Bathory died in 1614 but the legends surrounding her life and crimes continue to live and breathe today. Perhaps better known as "The Blood Countess" today, she is possibly one of the most prolific serial killers to exist in history. Or was she a powerful woman who was taken down by those around who for political and financial gain? The facts are more terrifying than the myths in this case, guys. Drain your bath tub, grab one of your castle staff members and get ready for some coagulation because Elizabeth is bloody terrifying.
A great resource for this episode was "Infamous Lady: The True Story of Countess Erzsebet Bathory" by Kimberly Craft
In Ash's mini Mini Morbid, she covers the story of Margaret Allen, who brutally killed her neighbor just because they were feelin' some type of way. This is a quick one but it delivers a punch of scrambled eggs.
So, Alaina isn't great at brevity. Her Mini Morbid covers the history of public executions and explores why people have always loved them. Have we evolved as a species away from gathering to watch someone be hanged in the town square? This is a long Mini that will have you thinking about a lot of things. Hold on to your butts....and maybe your heads.
As a ***WARNING*** this episode contains a short history of lynching in the United States. This subject is horrifying and can be triggering to some. Just be aware and use your judgement but we announce the topic before we delve into it.
All murders are senseless, but the brutal murder of 16 year old Skylar Neese in 2012 really hits a nerve. She was young, sweet and intelligent. Unfortunately, her best friends were young, evil and homicidal. This is a story about jealousy, teenage angst and permanent fixes for temporary problems.
Oh Betty. Ash's minisode features a tale that will take you on a true roller coaster of emotions. Although, we are willing to bet that we all will come to the same conclusion in the end, it will be a real journey. Oh, Betty.
Alaina's Mini Morbid takes a walk through the old Paris Morgue where dead bodies were put on display for the public to identify. This wasn't always about the macabre task of identifying the recently deceased though. It became theater. It became a place to see and be seen. Dress in your finest duds and gander at some bloated corpses because this place was happening.
It's the conclusion to our dive into Robert Hansen, the Alaskan serial murderer who hunted women like animals and got away with it for a while thanks to his bakery being a town favorite. Yes, you read that right. This guy is a real turd.
This guy somehow flies under the radar a lot but don't be fooled, he is a prolific and brutal serial killer who seemed to have taken his MO directly from the pages of "The Most Dangerous Game"(never confirmed but...come on...). In part 1 of our two part series on this trash human, we will discuss Hansen's teen years, his brushes with the law and take a dive into his first few murders. He's a treat, guys. Strap in.
In today's Mini Morbid, Alaina has chosen to take a brain trip to Scotland to dissect their history with witch trials. This episode will give a short background on the Scottish witch trials of the 1500s -1700s but mainly focus on one trial in particular from 1696 that revolved around a bold little girl, a stolen cup of milk and some poor souls who paid the ultimate price for it. Hope you enjoy.
This week's mini-sode focuses on Harold "Butch" Knight, who is currently one of Detroit's Most Wanted criminals. After strangling his wife, Sara Porter, Harold casually called police to tell them and then seemingly disappeared. Where is Harold Knight? Will justice ever come for Sara's family? This quick mini episode will have you thinking twice about those closest to you.
On one creepy day in 1943, four boys found the skeletonized remains of a woman, stuffed into the hollow of a wych elm tree with taffeta stuffed into her mouth in Hagley Wood, Hagley in Worcestershire, England. The victim's identity remained a mystery for years before unusual graffiti began to show up around the areas she was discovered. The graffiti asked "Who put Bella in the witch elm?" but unfortunately, the answer has yet to be found.
The Black Dahlia murder is probably one of the most infamous cases in American history. Hollywood has a way of churning out the darkest stories when no cameras are running. Elizabeth Short moved from Massachusetts to Los Angeles to pursue the coveted position of movie starlet and instead, found herself the star of one of the most brutal murders on the books. This case has twists and turns that seem like they are stolen from a greenlit screenplay, but unfortunately, the drama is all real. In Part 1, we discuss Elizabeth's life, her murder and the frustrating investigation that followed.
On this not really mini Morbid minisode, we explore Westfield, New Jersey's infamous Watcher House. Would you still move into your dream home if your life there began with a series of spooky, threatening letters that claimed the author's duty was to watch over your home and family? In the Summer of 2014, Derek and Maria Broaddus found themselves faced with this very dilemma and the details were a real, living nightmare.

Tyler Hadley was a typical teenager in most ways but in the weeks leading up to his house party from hell, he had made it abundantly clear what he intended to do to his parents, Mary Jo and Blake Hadley, to make the party a reality. This kid told everyone who would listen, yet, no one took him seriously. That is, until he showed his best friend his handy work right in the middle of the rager. This kid is a monster, guys.
We are back with some more spritely hell raisers in our second installment of Faeries. Don't swear, don't swim and definitely don't bring one to a proper grave. These little devils are not here to grant wishes....unless your wish is to be maimed, murdered or eaten.
Today, we discuss suspects and theories. Can we solve the biggest mystery in American true crime? Probably not, but one thing we don't do is blame the person who totally did it. Nope. We definitely don't do that.
It's holiday time and of course, it is about time that we talked about one of the most infamous cases in our history. in 1996, JonBenet Ramsey was an innocent 6 year-old and her death is a horrific mystery that has puzzled investigators for decades. Will it ever be solved? We probably won't do it but we will offer the cold hard facts.
This isn't all pixie dust and mischief here. Faeries have the best PR team in the game but we are here to blow up their spot and reveal them for the terrifying, homicidal nightmares that they really are.
Dr. Harold Perelson had it all. His career was flourishing, he had a beautiful family and the home of his dreams in the wealthy area of Los Feliz in Los Angeles. So, why the hell did he decide to try and murder his whole family with a ball-peen hammer one night in December 1959?
When the debut season of American Horror Story takes almost all of its inspiration from a true crime case, you gotta check it out for yourself. This one is a doozy.
It's the holidays, weirdos! Time to get freaky, brutal and murderous. Tonight on our first mini-Morbid episode, we are covering Santa's scary helpers who will beat you, eat you and maybe steal your candles.
It is Christmas day in 1929 and Charles Lawson is feeling some type of way. Unintentional poetry aside, the mystery of one man's actions that left his entire family brutally butchered, save for his eldest son who he intentionally sent away from the scene before the carnage, has fascinated and horrified true crime fans for decades. Why did Charles Lawson annihilate his family on Christmas morning? Why did he sent Arthur away before the rampage? Why did Marie put raisins on the damn cake? The questions and the brutality are overflowing in this case, so join us while we speculate wildly.
Adrianne Reynolds, Sarah Kolb and Cory Gregory were three troubled teenagers attending an alternative high school in East Moline, Illinois in 2005. They started off as bestfriends and ended up involved in a gruesome murder. What they ended up doing to one of their own will make you question a lot.
Mary Vincent survived something so horrifying that most of us couldn't even conjure it up in our nightmares. Her attacker, Lawrence Singleton, could have never imagined that Mary would walk away from where he left her to die in a canyon as a symbol of strength and resilience in the face of insurmountable odds. This is a story of survival, but also one of a justice system that is in desperate need of fixing.
This is just a good old fashioned 1960s triple homicide mixed with some possible coerced confessions and a dirty buckskin jacket. Come with us as we dive into this confusing case and try to figure out where the hell that postcard went.
We didn't get baby-faced Jared Leto in for this one but we still managed to trudge through some of the spookiest and truest urban legends out there. We cover everything from Bloody Mary to the Carnival Corpse. Also, I know it was by REM and not Dave Matthews Band. Trust me, you'll get it.
The real psycho behind the classic slasher film Scream was much worse than fiction. He was a country singing, people murdering turd who held Gainesville, Florida hostage in 1990. Luckily, he is dead than dead now, so we can tell you all about it. Also, Sondra London, if you are reading this, you are garbage.
Wow. Salem was wild back in the day, guys. You think you know about the infamous Salem Witch Trials but you have no idea how bananas it really got. We take a deep dive into the beginnings of this hysteria, the madness of the "trials" and executions and then we try to figure out how the hell this all began in the first place. Join two Massachusetts natives as we guilt our way through this black mark on our local history.
Guys! We have guests! Tonight we took look into just a corner of Salem's witchy history and chatted with two of our podfam members, Tyler and Mason from The Right Wrong Turn Podcast. Check it out and if you downloaded the first version of this that I posted, I apologize for the audio mess. This one is better, I promise. Enjoy, weirdos!
In the conclusion of our tale covering David Parker Ray and his reprehensible crimes against humanity, we brought some audio clips. I never said this one was going to be easy to digest, guys. But it gets....kind of better at the end? Come on in, you got this far and we are in this together.
Guys. This is one of the worst cases you will ever lend your ears to. Park Ranger and all around rude dude David Parker Ray spent 40 years and over $100,000 dedicating his life to the abduction, torture, rape and murder of countless women. His MO reads like a script for the Saw franchise and that's putting it lightly. Hold onto your butts, because The Toy Box Killer is here.
Let's take a rather unpleasant trip back to 1922 where we meet The Grubers. This German family had it all: incest, a possibly haunted farm and their very own murder mystery. There is a lot to unpack in this case And since this family's very unfortunate new maid didn't even get the chance to unpack herself, we are here for you.
Australia. You may have bested us with this one.
Hold on to your butts because this lady is bashing people over the head with frying pans, leaving babies on train tracks and skinning men like Buffalo Bill.
Katherine Knight is a woman so evil that words have failed me here. Just trust us, this one is bananas.
Rod Ferrell was a special kind of jerk. Convinced he was a 500 year old vampire named Vesago living in a 16 year old boy's body, he took his otherworldly fantasies to the brink by carrying out two senseless, brutal murders. He didn't just kill anyone, though. By his own admission, he murdered the parents of one of his cult followers for the rush of it. Does he care? Nope. Does he still think he is a 500 year old vampire? Yup. This one is a trip, guys.
Finland, you really outdid yourself with this one. As one of the most infamous crimes in Finnish history, this triple homicide remains a mystery to this day. Sure, several suspects have been brought to the table but none have been formally charged for very long. With a bumbling investigation and a host of strange occurrences surrounding this case. It may remain just that: A mystery. Today we will shed some light on this creepy case and try to give our best guest about what happened. Enjoy, weirdos.
Richard continues on a path of unimaginable mayhem but don't worry, his capture will have you applauding in the end. Trigger warning: There is a lot of mentions of sexual assault and one mention of sexual assault against a child. I mention this when it is about to be discussed during the episode too, so don't worry...you can skip that part if needed.
Richard Ramirez was the worst human to be spat onto Earth in a long time. Between the years of 1984 and 1985, he terrorized the residents of Los Angeles and surrounding areas by creeping through unlocked windows and doors in the dead of night to rape, assault, torture and murder whoever was unfortunate enough to be sleeping inside. In Part 1 of our two part series on this demon turd, we take a look at his early life and the beginnings of his ride into infamy.
Lock your windows, guys. Fresh air is for dead people.
It's been around since the beginning of time and it used to almost always involve a spike. Today, Alaina and Ash will discuss the various medieval methods of pain and suffering that could only come from the twisted mind of the human species. Strap in, because this is a rough one.
Everyone knows that Australia does things bigger and scarier than most anyone else on this big floating space rock. I mean, have you see a Huntsman Spider??? Google it. I'll wait.
Today's episode is the first in a series (not back to back) where we will take a look at some of Australia's worst crimes. Tonight's cases are Ivan Milat "The Backpacker Killer" and the horrific murder of Anita Cobby. Keep the Vegemite at home because, this is a rough one.
The forest is a mysterious place, and some dark secrets are most certainly best left hidden among the trees. In today's episode, we will feature a handful of some of the scariest, most grim forests on this spinning planet. From the tragic stillness of Japan's Aokigahara to the ferocious symphony of England's Screaming Woods, this episode is sure to make you think twice about taking that hike. Oh yeah, and we recorded at night next to the woods for authenticity.
This one us so frustrating, guys! When George and Jennie Sodder's home burned downed on Christmas Eve in 1945, they were thrust into a lifelong battle to find 5 of their children who, despite leaving no remains, were never seen alive again. This case has inept authorities, conspiracy theories and a tale of parental dedication that will thaw your cold, dead heart. This is, the Sodder children mystery.
Gather 'round you cats and chicks and moldy figs. We are about to take a trip in the way back machine to a time when New Orleans was more known for influenza than for beads. In 1918 (possibly 1911 but that's debatable), a jazzy, caguely poetic monster was demanding New Orleaneans play his favorite jazz tunes or he would take his axe to their noggins. It was all very bizarre and that's the way we like it. So, join us for The Axeman of New Orleans, ya bunch of barn burners.
In what seemed like an instant, Manson and his murderous, yet groovy family took the leap from a life built on peace and love to commiting some of the most violent and vicious murders in true crime history. So, carve an X on your head, groove to The Beatles White Album and stay the hell away from the Belladonna because Part 2 of Charlie and the fam will have you yearning for the grunge era.
Charles Manson didn't exactly have a great start to life and we can prove it. Part 1 of our Manson series dives into his beginnings, from being bartered for a pitcher of beer by his own mother to partying with a Beach Boy during the Summer of Love. The seedlings of mayhem were starting to brew but no one could have predicted what this makeshift "family" eventually accomplished. Stick around for Part 2 when dirty hippie livin' takes a dark turn into manipulation and brutal murder.
Theodore Robert Bundy confessed to the brutal slayings of 36 female coeds. Experts believe his tally could climb into the 100s. Ted stands high above the rest of his kind as the most infamous and the most brutal. To this day, his charm and methods have been unmatched. Heard of a little film called "Silence of the Lambs"? Buffalo Bill's penchant for preying on the kindness of his female victims and utilizing a fake arm cast to up the pathetic quotient was ripped directly from Mr. Bundy's modus operandi. Part 1 of this bananas tale will set it up for a truly terrifying crescendo.
Failed landscaper and all around malfunctioning human Joel Rifkin is currently serving a 203 year prison sentence for the murder and dismemberment of 17 women in Long Island and New York State between 1989 and 1993. Unfortunately, he is one of those, "Must be a monster living inside of me" type of turds. Joel, you're a real bummer.
This one is a real head scratcher.
This week, we head into the mountains of Siberia to dissect the bizarre tale of 9 dead Russian hikers, 1 missing tongue and a possible Yeti siege back in 1959. The case has never been completely closed and although a lot of questions remain unanswered, there are organizations that don’t seem to want to reveal the truth. Strap in, because it’s about to get chilly and conspiracy theorist-y in here.
This guy could have been something great if he had just ignored the part of his psyche that implored him to kill and dismember young women in order to have quality time with them. With an IQ well above average and a penchant for flowery prose, he unfortunately grew up in an environment that nourished violence and hatred for himself and those around him. Buckle up, Edmund is a real nasty character, but he will tell you that himself.
