Episode 19: Terry Owens and Matt Hardinge join the show to discuss our recent trip into the Ruby Mountains of eastern Nevada to scout for Himalayan Snowcock. This is a bird that is native to the Himalayan region of southern Asia and was introduced into the Ruby Mountains in the 1960s. Since then the mountains have sustained a healthy population giving hunters an opportunity to hunt arguably the holy grail of upland birds. This hunt would better be described as a poor mans goat hunt. As you are likely to encounter both animals inhabiting the same area. Episode 14: This week I am joined by Dr. Seth Bynum, a veterinarian and avid Chukar hunter from Washington State. He provides some excellent advice on emergency field treatment of your dog, gives his opinion on the long standing debate : "Which dog food is better" and whether or not snake bite anti venom is worth it.
Episode 13: Mike Sperry, Q5 Pro Staff. This week Mike traveled in from Winnemucca, Nv to chat all about Chukar. He is a Nevada Native and current Treasurer for the Nevada Chukar Foundation (NCF). I learn about the NCF's role in the development of the yearly Chukar Forecast put out by the Nevada Department of Wildlife. He is such a knowledgeable person on the topic of Chukar hunting. He also explains how he plans his approach to each bird season based on weather patterns and fires. And, he also brings along his Q5 vest for me to check out.
Episode 12: Ryan Mulcahy- Born to Run Kennels. In this episode Ryan sits down to talk to me about training bird dogs and gives me some tips on how to improve my dogs ability to hunt. Ryan was also quite a runner back in the day putting in some insane miles and training routines. I learn about his bird dog summer camp that he was talking to me from in Montana and his love for Bruce Springsteen.
