From a child actor in two of the biggest blockbusters of 1982… to attending film school at USC… to walking away from entertainment to pursue a career as a stock broker… to returning to film on “the other side” of the camera (See what we did there? POLTERGEIST 2: THE OTHER SIDE? Get it? Whatever, your jokes aren’t funny either.) … to his latest film CELEBRITY CRUSH (out now on digital and on-demand)… Oliver’s journey through Hollywood and back again is filled with bullies, clowns, scary trees, and more! Dr. Arwen provides emotional support to a filmmaker looking to make the most of their COVID-19 isolation, Oliver makes Adam and Joe seriously jealous with an amazing Spielberg story, the guys get to the bottom of the Toby Hooper vs Steven Spielberg directing most of POLTERGEIST rumor, and Arwen gets sucked into the ArieScope TV by scary ghosts in this candid and responsibly socially distant conversation! From his short films that made a huge impact on the festival circuit (PAPA WRESTLING)… to working with Troma/Lloyd Kaufman on his latest- the absolutely insane feature MUTANT BLAST… to dealing with two-faced critics… to almost getting trapped in the US when the COVID-19 pandemic became a national emergency during his Los Angeles premiere… Fernando’s experience is one that will inspire so many other young filmmakers striving to make their mark. Actor Mark Patton (A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET 2: FREDDY’S REVENGE) and co-directors Roman Chimienti and Tyler Jensen “virtually” join Adam, Joe, and Arwen to discuss their new documentary SCREAM, QUEEN! MY NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET - now streaming wherever you prefer to watch new releases! While being careful not to spoil the events of the documentary, the group discusses the fascinating process of making a movie about a man’s life story- only to find that pivotal moments of that on-going story are taking place right before their cameras. From NIGHTMARE 2 originally being looked upon as a controversial slasher sequel due to its infamous homoerotic subtext… to that very same subtext being a huge reason why the film is now celebrated many decades later…to the movie’s star (Mark Patton) being “outed” by the film before he was ready to “come out” and coming to terms with his long standing resentment towards the experience… Patton’s story is an extremely important one. This is one conversation you don’t want to miss - and an episode that you’ll only relate to even more if you make it a point to see the film! (Seriously- see it!!) Want more MOVIE CRYPT content? From realizing that they were simply better together… to making shorts for fun…  to their grass roots effort to produce their first feature DEADHEADS… to continuing on with the same family affair vibe for the production of their latest feature THE WRETCHED… the Pierce Brothers are a perfect example that sometimes two deadheads in the director’s chair are truly better than just one deadhead. Austrian filmmaking team Severin Fiala and Veronika Franz (GOODNIGHT MOMMY, THE LODGE) sits down with Adam, Joe, and Arwen for a hilarious and extremely honest conversation about their career journey and the reality of financing films in this day and age. The unlikely filmmaking duo share the incredible story of how they met and began working together… the major differences/similarities between getting a film financed in Austria and in America… their approach to equally sharing the helm on each project… the major differences with which “success” is measured in Austria and in the USA… and the challenges that almost every filmmaker faces in trying to communicate just how difficult it actually is to maintain a career in the arts to those on the outside of the industry. On Saturday January 25, 2020 the Panic Film Festival in Kansas City, MO presented a special 10th anniversary screening of Adam Green’s FROZEN followed by a live performance of THE MOVIE CRYPT podcast. For the first time ever, Joe Lynch interviews Adam Green in the most candid filmmaker on filmmaker conversation about the making of FROZEN that you’ll ever hear. From Green turning down an offer that would have doubled the production’s budget had he been willing to concede to the producer’s demands (which included NOT shooting the film entirely on location)… to Green literally casting the very first actress to walk into the audition room… to the technical and physical hurdles that the cast and crew endured shooting on the side of a mountain in Utah during the dead of winter… to Joe’s father passing away while he was visiting the set… to the moments with the wolves that turned dangerous… to the haunting story about the real-life tragedy that had occurred in the very spot Green was compelled to shoot the film in… the two filmmakers take a deep dive behind the scenes of FROZEN’s lasting legacy “doing for skiing what JAWS did for swimming.” Recorded before a live audience the episode also includes the return of “The Steven Tyler Congratulations” as Green and Lynch honor a very special guest who also had a film screening at Panic Fest this year. NOTE: Unfortunately Arwen could not attend this live appearance due to a previously scheduled professional obligation. Green and Lynch held a “Crypt Keeper” meet up at the Screenland Armour theater where over 20 Patreon members joined the hosts for a private hangout before the screening of FROZEN began! Filmmaker Kyra Gardner may have only just graduated film school a few months ago but she’s already one of the best examples we know of an emerging young talent making huge strides in the world of cinema today! He’s a mystery wrapped in an enigma and a living hero to every artist who’s ever been trampled over by the system. Filmmaker Richard Stanley (HARDWARE, DUST DEVIL, THE ISLAND OF DR. MOREAU) sits down with Adam Green, Joe Lynch, and Arwen for a long awaited and fascinating discussion about his career journey. From seeing the original ISLAND OF DR. MOREAU in 1977 and determinedly deciding that he would one day tell H.G. Wells’ fantastical story his own way... to making a name for himself with 1990’s low-budget, post apocalyptic thriller HARDWARE… to watching his follow up DUST DEVIL fall out of his hands due to the bankruptcy of the production company and creative tampering of the final cut of the film (Stanley would go on to finance a restored version from the original negative many years later)… to ultimately getting the chance he dreamed of and writing/directing 1996’s THE ISLAND OF DR. MOREAU – only to have the project become a legendary clusterfuck after creative disputes lead to him being fired just hours after the start of production (in order to understand the absolute nightmare Stanley endured you need to watch LOST SOUL - the 2014 documentary about the DR. MOREAU fiasco)… only to rise from the ashes over two decades later with this his new feature COLOR OUT OF SPACE… if Richard Stanley’s unbreakable determination doesn’t inspire you to stick to your guns than you need to turn your guns in immediately. Dr. Arwen provides “Hollywood Therapy” to a writer struggling to manage his expectations and Adam and Joe pray at the alter of their cinematic hero in this phenomenal conversation that starts off 2020 in spectacular fashion. Adam, Joe, and Arwen bid farewell to 2019 with a look back at the highs and lows from this past year. From the most memorable MOVIE CRYPT conversations, their favorite movies and TV shows, and this year’s record breaking “Yorkiethon" … to the heartbreaks of loved ones lost, the career frustrations they’ve endured, and the guys’ extremely candid and personal resolutions for 2020… Adam and Joe hold nothing back as they purge their hearts of the “old” and make room for all the wonderful “new” that is to come.   * In our extremely exhausted state we forgot to take our annual "disheveled" picture to accompany the year-end episode. So please forgive the re-use of our 2016 picture.   Speaking of New Year’s resolutions, why not make 2020 the year that you start supporting this podcast? Sacrificing just one Starbucks [or other brand name] coffee a month will make a world of difference for this program and also get you in far less trouble than sacrificing a neighbor’s cat or child! In what may be the most important conversation you'll ever hear on THE MOVIE CRYPT, addiction counselor Terry Kirkman (A.I.R. Support) sat down with us to get real about the subject of addiction. After meeting so many artists who have struggled with substance abuse in their own lifetimes and after losing our dear friend and brother Dave Brockie to heroin in 2014, we wanted to speak with an expert in the field and gain a better understanding of the illness. We also hoped to help our audience members who may be battling addiction (or who may know someone else who is) and show them that there is truly a light at the end of the long, dark tunnel. The response to this episode continues to overwhelm us to this very day. Who knows? Perhaps bringing this special episode out of the vault and back into the light may help save even more lives than it did back in 2015 when it originally aired? We can only hope so. There are only 2 weeks left in THE MOVIE CRYPT's limited "Hall Of Fame" series! Don't miss out on the hundreds of other incredible conversations from our back catalogue! When you sign up to support this podcast on Patreon in the "Early Access/Classic Crypt" tier you'll immediately receive access to our first 90 episodes of "Classic Crypt" (our original episodes released weekly, in chronological order with brand new introductions looking back on the episodes 5 years later) and continue to receive the next classic episode every Wednesday. Want all of our early episodes all at once? Pick up a "Vault" in the store on ArieScope.com! Available in batches of 100 episodes for just $25 or as the "Ultimate Vault" with our first 300 episodes for just $50! You'll not only be giving yourself the gift of months and months of entertainment, you'll be helping this podcast continue to bring you new episodes every Monday.

From making multiple feature films together while still going to High School in Iowa… to the benefits of never forgetting where they came from… to analyzing why it’s mainly other filmmakers who are so critical over every single thing they watch… to having to make the decision to let someone else direct A QUIET PLACE (and how well that decision ultimately panned out)… this incredibly candid conversation perfectly illustrates why Beck and Woods are currently two of the most exciting filmmakers to watch. Dr. Arwen provides a windfall of advice equal to 4 full years of film school for an aspiring filmmaker in need of “Hollywood Therapy” over her anxiety about the steps she needs to take in pursuing her dream, the group splishes over STAR WARS (if you were part of THE MOVIE CRYPT LIVE family you’d be splishing, too), and Joe accepts Adam’s challenge to defend a made up holiday based around a specific kind of pizza.   Please don’t let his program go away! Support THE MOVIE CRYPT on Patreon.com/TheMovieCrypt and keep new episodes coming every week! Even just $1 a month can make a difference but for just a few bucks more you can get early access to every new episode, bonus weekly episodes of “Classic Crypt” from the back catalogue, bonus monthly commentary episodes, Adam and Joe’s monthly “Crypt Picks” videos, access to Adam and Joe’s personal “Crypt Diaries,” access to the monthly LIVE episodes, access to “Hollywood Therapy” and “Viewer Mail,” and more!

Musician and filmmaker Taj Jackson (3T, TV’s THE JACKSONS: NEXT GENERATION) sits down with Adam, Joe, and Arwen to discuss the truth about his late Uncle Michael Jackson in the wake of the extremely controversial and polarizing HBO “documentary” LEAVING NEVERLAND. Together they dive deep into the details behind the 1993 and 2005 false allegations against Michael… discuss the potential dangers of abusing “cancel culture”… and shine a light on the numerous discrepancies and lies put forward in LEAVING NEVERLAND. Clocking in at 3 hours, this highly emotional and educational conversation stresses the importance of vetting the validity of accusations and the great injustice of blindly believing whatever we’re told. As discussed in the episode, for more information we strongly recommend the following two videos: LEAVING NEVERLAND: THE AFTERMATH - https://youtu.be/NUNO-MygJOQ RAZÖRFIST’s: THE MICHAEL JACKSON REBUTTAL (Part 1) - https://youtu.be/6pnoQqlygQs Our June episode of MOVIE CRYPT LIVE is going to be FREE for all listeners!
