APP podcast #26  - “Next man up(set)”

  1. Snapshots from training camp:

    1. All 3 of us went to the first padded practice of training camp on Saturday 7/28.  First time we had all 3 been together since we first floated the idea of bring in Jeremy(!)

    2. We got to see some of the defensive linemen doing some drills up close - Kenny Clark looks fantastic, as did Mike Daniels.  Montravious Adams has been standing out in 1 on 1’s.

    3. QB’s are not showing much. Hundley has not progressed and Kizer is inconsistent, leaving door open for Tim Boyle.

    4. Other odds and ends from training camp:

      1. Jake Ryan is out for year. Oren Burks and 3 UDFA’s are backups. Should they sign a veteran such as Navorro Bowman?

      2. Rookie WR’s have had a rough camp. Inconsistent play has plagued them. Will they step up and provide “12” reliable weapons?

      3. Thus far WR Jake Kumerow has been the best WR of the backups. “12” has raved about him. If he continues this will leave difficult roster decisions.

      4. Jimmy Graham has been featured in team drills. Will this be the “new look” that MM mentioned?

      5. Offensive line, especially Bakhtiari and Bulaga are injured and it will provide opportunity for Spriggs/Murphy/Bell to prove they are legitimate.

  2. First preseason game against Tennessee tomorrow. Most starters will not play or play very little. Who needs to shine and prove the depth is good enough?

  3. Is team depth sufficient?  Jeremy blogged about it here.https://www.absolutepacker.com/node/42

  4. DE/OLB Khalil Mack is holding out of Oakland’s training camp in hopes of new contract.

    1. Would it be wise to call Oakland and explore trade?

    2. What would be a fair trade?

    3. Would he improve the Packers defense?

  5. Non-Football Stuff

    1. The league has suspended the new anthem rule until further notice. Teams like Miami have taken matters into their own hands and will suspend or fine players for not standing.http://www.latimes.com/sports/nfl/la-sp-nfl-dolphins-anthem-20180720-story.html?outputType=amp

  6. Other NFC North Stuff:

    1. Chicago Bears: rookie LB Roquan Smith is still without a contract. He wants provisions in contract waived that would take guaranteed money away if suspended for on field play - new helmet to helmet rule) http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/football/bears/ct-spt-bears-roquan-smith-contract-20180801-story,amp.html
